Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Myka’s p.o.v. “Alpha Lincoln, I would like to have a word with you. It concerns the attacks and Misha might want to hear this to tell Madden.” Elder Major says. I see Alpha Lincoln in a mind-link, and a moment later, I hear him through the mind-link, “He doesn’t want the old leadership present; you will leave the dining room before we do and head straight to my office.” Whatever Elder Major has to say has to be serious, or he wouldn’t have asked for all of us to be present, but what could he tell us that we didn’t know already? It isn’t hard to sneak into the Alpha office because most Pack-members are still in the dining room and the ones in the hallway are too busy walking in and out of the kitchen; we have just taken a seat when the door opens. “Alpha Lincoln, I need you to understand that what I am about to say must never be repeated to Rhys.” Elder Major says. “Meadow only knows part of this; I didn’t take the time to tell her everything.” Elder Major says after Alpha Lincoln made it clear that Rhys wouldn’t hear any of this from us. “We come from a long line of Gammas; every Male that is born in our bloodline has a Gamma’s Daughter as his Mate and every female in our bloodline has a Gamma Mate if he is a Lycan, if her Mate is a different kind of Shifter he will be an Alpha or a Beta. My Mate was a Gamma’s Daughter, but her family wanted a higher-ranked Mate for her. At first, she refused to listen to her family and I believed that she would choose me over her family.” It is clear to see that this isn’t easy for him to talk about. “The Mate-bond should be sacred, but we all know that not everyone will accept the Mate our Goddess has chosen for us. My Mate rejected me for a Beta, but the Goddess didn’t appreciate what both of them had done. They never had Pups and both bloodlines died with them a few years back.” Elder Major says. “As you know, my Sister’s Mate was a Beta and that is where our bloodline might end. River is a Wolf, just like his Father and he won’t carry on our bloodline. Meadow is a Lycan and if her fated Mate is a Lycan, she will carry on our bloodline, but it will end if her Mate is a different kind of Shifter. There is one part of our bloodline that will carry on, no matter what kind of Shifter Meadow is mated to and that is getting an ability at the age of eighteen. I didn’t take the time to tell Meadow; she still has a few months until she turns eighteen and I need to find a journal that she needs to read. I believe that it is in the library on the Alpha floor; at least, I think that is what my Sister was trying to tell me. It would be the safest place for her to hide it, to keep Rhys from finding out the truth about his Mate and his Daughter.” Elder Major says. Alpha Lincoln is looking at me and I know where I will spend my time for a while; I will find that journal. Even if I have to turn this entire Pack upside down, I will find that journal for Elder Major and for Meadow. “Uncle Major, do you want me to inform you when Meadow arrives at Black Valley Pack, or would you like me to ask her to visit you?” River asks after a few minutes of silence. My mind is on the journal I need to find, so I don’t hear the answer that Elder Major gives him. If it is important for Meadow to read, then it will contain information on her bloodline and perhaps the abilities that have been given to her ancestors. “Elder Major, what kind of an ability did your Sister have?” I ask him, hoping to discover what kind of ability Meadow might have. “Meilani had the gift of sense; she could sense if and how many Shifters were near her. It was impossible to sneak up on her, and she would use it to avoid large groups; she hated large groups of Shifters for some reason.” He answers me. “But Meadow already has her gift; she can tell what kind of Shifter you are by looking into your eyes.” Makay states, but Elder Major shakes his head. “No, that is a gift every female in our bloodline has and it is with them from birth.” Elder Major explains. I will search the library for a book on abilities too; I would like to know more about this than I know at the moment. “Let me see if I get this straight; your family’s bloodline will end if Meadow has a Mate that isn’t a Lycan and the abilities will move to the other bloodline?” Alpha Lincoln asks. “Yes. Hypotheticaly speaking, if Meadow is Magnus’ fated Mate, your bloodline will become a special bloodline and every female will have a second ability from the age of eighteen.” Elder Major says. Oh my Goddess. I am not sure how I would feel about that. I mean, I would accept Meadow as my Mate, but I would probably never trust a male anywhere near my Daughter.“Our family would protect them with their lives.” Thyrius says in my head and I know that my family will. All our Pack-members at Black Valley Pack would, I can’t be sure about the Pack-members here at Gold Moon Pack though. “Her friends would and that might be enough.” Thyrius responds to my thoughts and I have to agree with him, her friends will protect Meadow and her Pups from harm. They have already proven that Meadow comes before anyone else, maybe even before their Alpha. “Has anyone ever tried to mark one of your ancestors forcefully?” Alpha Lincoln asks and I feel somewhat uncomfortable about that question, but I don’t understand why. “Not to my knowledge, but someone did show an unhealthy interest in Meilani and I am glad that Elder Morton was able to help me with sending her in search of her Mate. Something tells me that he is behind these attacks and that he is after Meadow.” Elder Major answers. Thyrius roars in my head; he hates the idea of someone being after Meadow. We don’t know her, but she is River’s baby Sister and we consider him a friend. Hell, he is my Brother in law and that makes Meadow family.
