Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 44 My Thoughts

Meadow’s p.o.v. “Do you mind if our Sisters sit in on the meeting?” Madden asks and I gesture to the girls to take a seat, I don’t mind if they are present at all. “Madden, I have a question for you.” I say, when the door behind me opens again and a female stares at me as if she has seen a ghost. “Meilani.” She whispers softly and I see a tear rolling down her cheek. “You look so much like your Mother that it is almost creepy.” Madden introduces her as Elder Carmen, while Lilith guides her to a couch and I sit down in a chair across from Elder Carmen. She just looks at me, not saying a word and yet it doesn’t feel uncomfortable. “You had a question for me, Meadow?” Madden asks and I look to the left to see him waiting for my question.“Yes, I assumed that your Father would run both Packs the same, but I apparently made a mistake. The report from the attack states that the files in the infirmary had been tossed across the floor, but how is that possible if they were in the archive?” I ask. “Our medical files have always been at the infirmary, our archive is for the personal files on birth, death and mating.” Madden answers me and I hear Beta Lennox clear his throat. “I think I understand the confusion, Elder Major told you about the archive at Gold Moon, didn’t he?” Beta Lennox asks and I nod my head. “That was Alpha Hank, he needed to be able to let certain information disappear and that would prove difficult if a part of the files weren’t in the archive.” I remember what I heard about the archive from Makay and I actually giggle, it didn’t do him much good. Our visit to Black Valley wasn’t a complete bust, Lyndy and Raya found out an interesting piece of information and after contacting Captain Miles, I knew we would have that missing piece by the time we return. I had time to talk to Misha and after I told him what I figured out about Makay’s behavior, we also got the missing piece of that puzzle. Makay was eight when he had been outside playing on his own, while Myka was busy with a project for school, according to Misha. Misha was dragged outside by Beta Lennox to find Makay, because two Rogues had managed to sneak into the territory and Makay had witnessed them attacking a Pack-member. A female who had been one of their best Warriors, but she had been pregnant at the time of the attack and her focus had been on protecting her unborn Pup instead of herself. Black Valley Pack lost three Pack-members that day, the female and her unborn Pup and her Mate who hadn’t been able to take the loss of his Mate and Pup.“I don’t know if it could have been prevented, but Makay needs to understand that bad things happen and locking up or rejecting your Mate isn’t the answer.” I told Beta Lennox, after we heard the story from Misha and Beta Lennox confirmed the events. Our drive back was spent in silence, we had a few things to think about and I hoped that we would have at least a few answers by the time we got back to Renegade territory. “We are still waiting on most Elders to call back, but some have already gotten back to us. One of the Rogues that attacked the border would look every female in the eye, but he didn’t say a word.” Captain Miles states the moment we walk into the house. “Two females gave a little extra hint, he didn’t smell like a Wolf or Lycan Rogue.” I hear Captain Miles say and I grab my phone to make a phone call. “Uncle Major, I need you to find Gamma Layton. I need an answer and he might have it for me.” I say the moment he picks up and I can hear him running on the stairs, unsure if he is going up or down. “He can hear you, Meadow.” Uncle Major says after a few minutes. “Gamma Layton, does a Rogue Mountain Lion smell different from a Rogue Wolf? I ask and I see everyone in the living room staring at me, looks like I am not the only one that doesn’t know the answer to that question. “Yes, Meadow. Wolves and Lycans tend to smell the same, just like feline Shifters smelling the same. If you want to know about Bear Shifters, you need to contact Beta Lennox, he is at Black Valley Pack.” Gamma Layton answers. “I already talked to him today, we were at Black Valley to investigate the attack. I didn’t have this piece of information, so I might need to call him about that.” I respond. “Not necessary, I already talked to him. Bear Shifters smell different from the others, so you have three different smells among Rogues.” Alpha Lincoln says and I see Tia writing down the information we just received. “Thank you, Alpha Lincoln. I need to process this, before it will make sense. Thank you, Uncle Major.” I say before I disconnect the call. I sit down in an armchair and stare at all the information we have. No one talks to me, no one walks through my vision and everyone keeps as quiet as they can. “I keep getting back to a special bloodline, Rebel. It is the only thing that makes sense to me, but what are they looking for exactly?” I ask her and I know she is looking through my eyes to see what I see. “Not just a special bloodline, a bloodline with gifted Shifters.” Rebel states and I wipe the whiteboard clean, writing down: bloodline with gifted Shifters. I sit back down in my chair and let my mind wander, thinking about my studies. I can’t remember if I ever heard of gifted Shifters, I doubt anyone would want the rest of the world to know about it.A lead that bled dry before it even got started, but at least it got us a step closer. “If they know what to look for, then we can figure it out too.” Rebel replies to my thoughts.
