Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 40 Won't Give Up

Makay’s p.o.v. Three days until the Full Moon and I don’t get to spend it with my family and friends. “And who’s to blame for that?” Blade growls the question in my head and I sigh deeply because he is right, this is my own doing and no one else's. I know that Meadow has figured something out, but I refuse to answer her questions on the subject. I doubt anyone could understand my reasoning or hesitation to accept a Mate that will run towards a battle instead of away from it. Will Meadow tell my Father or Alpha Lincoln about her suspicions? I honestly don’t know, maybe I should ask myself that question, put myself in her shoes. If I believed that someone else could find the answer and I was convinced it would help this person, I would definitely tell Alpha Lincoln or that person’s family. So, I have to assume that Meadow did the same as I would do and she will inform them about it. We have just returned from our run through the forest and I am still amazed at the fact that Meadow out runs me every time. “Are you ready to head home, Makay?” Elder Major asks and I see him standing near the training grounds with two bags beside him. I turn to Meadow with a questioning look in my eyes, she didn’t say anything on the subject since I arrived and I thought she would keep me here for as long as she could get away with it. “Take a shower before you get in the SUV, no need to pack.” Meadow says before she turns her back on me and hands out orders to the other team members. I assume that one of the two bags with Elder Major is mine and he pushes one forward with his foot as I walk towards him.I am happy to return to my family, but I also feel disappointed because I fear that I am just going home for the Full Moon and will get sent back here once it turns out my Mate isn’t there. Neither one of us speaks as we drive to Gold Moon Pack, I am thinking about the team I just left behind and how much they have affected my life in the past few weeks. Not that they were able to change my mind, but they did give me a lot to think about. “Well, I’ll be damned. You’re still breathing.” Magnus says the moment I step out of the SUV and I playfully shove him with my shoulder. “Elder Major, welcome to Gold Moon territory. It is good to finally have an Elder within this Pack, maybe now some will learn to behave themselves.” Magnus says to Elder Major, before he introduces himself. “Young Alpha, it is good to have an assignment again. I would like to talk to your Father, if he has some time to spare.” Elder Major responds and Magnus leads us to the Alpha office.Besides Alpha Lincoln, only Dad is in the office and one look from Elder Major is enough for Dad to link the others. We can hear footsteps coming down the stairs and within minutes the Alpha office is filled with our current and possible future leadership. The only ones that aren’t here are Rhys, Rory and Rufus, but I doubt Elder Major will be sorry about that. “Why don’t we get the introductions out of the way, Elder Major?” Dad asks while he closes the door of the office, locking it for good measure. I can see River’s eyes widen as Elder Major explains who he is and what he is to River. “Meadow has asked me to give you her number, she is willing to give you a chance to have a relationship with her and I believe she really needs it.” Elder Major says. “And if you ever call me Elder, I am going to ask her to kick your ass.” “No, thanks. We saw what she did to Makay and I will pass on that.” River says as he accepts the note with Meadow’s number on it. “Did they manage to change your mind?” Myka asks, but Alpha Lincoln beats me to it before I can answer him. “No, she did figure out what his problem is though. Your Brother seems fine with females training, fighting or going on assignments, as long as they are unmated. The second he sees a mark on a female, he does a one eighty.” Alpha Lincoln responds. Myka stares at me as if I have grown a second head, but Mom is a bit more aggressive in expressing her disappointment in me. “Good to know that you don’t appreciate it when I fight, our Luna fights, or when Laney fights. We fight because we want and need to protect our Pack-members, not to impress our Mates or anyone else for that matter and I would like to know why you feel this way.” Mom says after she has smacked my head. “Try to get out of that one without telling her the truth. I dare you, Human. She will know the second you lie to her, none of you have ever been able to tell a lie in front of her and it won’t start today.” Blade says in my head. He is right, no one can lie to Mom, she always knows when you leave out an important part or if you twist the truth. Don’t ask how she knows, because Mom doesn’t understand it herself either, but Alpha Lincoln takes advantage of it if he has to. “Mom, I don’t want to lie to you and therefore I am not going to answer the question.” I reply. You can hear a pin drop in the office, no one has ever said something like that to Mom and everyone is waiting for her response. “Fine, I will accept this for the moment. I am warning you though, I will find the answer and when I do, I will ask Meadow to come down here to put you straight.” Mom threatens and I see River handing Mom the note with Meadow’s number. “Just in case your Mother needs it.” River says while I give him a death glare and Myka gives him a high-five. Great, even my Brother agrees with Mom. I doubt she can find the answer, but she won’t give up easily.
