Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Meadow’s p.o.v. For the past week I have had dinner with Uncle Major at the table and having him around has given me some perspective. Not every person is the same, some people can be trusted and some can’t. Some people will be interested in you for who you are and others are interested in you for what you can do for them. Every day was spent talking about my past; about my friends, about my family, and about Rufus. Arion wasn’t too pleased with what I had to say and it made Uncle Major decide to go to Gold Moon Pack as their residence Elder. He will leave with Makay in little over a week, three days before the Full Moon and he promised me that he would talk to River for me. We are still no closer to an answer to the question, what made Makay turn his back on his upbringing? He talks about Black Valley Pack with us and answers every question we ask, but so far none of it has been related to an incident that would explain his reluctance to accept a Mate that can and wants to fight. Yesterday we ran the perimeter in our Shifter form and despite being a Bear Blade kept up with us, the only challenge was taking turns. Once he gets going, it is difficult for him to stop, and turning around at a moment’s notice is impossible. Blade destroyed two trees along the way, crashed into a boulder and tumbled down an embankment. It didn’t stop him from completing the course, but it made us stumble a few times as we laughed at his expense. When we returned to the training grounds, he tumbled into a group of newcomers who were training and everyone laughed when Captain Miles yelled, “Strike.” After that, Blade chased Captain Miles around the training grounds and everyone they passed along the way got a gentle push from Blade if they were too close. He is huge compared to a Wolf or a Lycan and a lot broader, so Captain Miles might have been able to avoid them, but that didn’t go for Blade. Rebel was having a ball, she decided that she wanted to play with Blade for a while and was jumping over him every chance she got. Blade would growl at her at times, but never did anything to stop her from leaping over him. Soon other Shifters joined us and we spent an entire hour just fooling around. “What has you smiling, Pumpkin?” Uncle Major asks and I look up to see the empty classroom. “Our training session from yesterday.” I answer him and I don’t have to tell him what we did, because almost every Elder watched us by the time we were done. I take a look at my watch to see that my class ended half an hour ago, I must have been deep in thought not to notice that everyone around me left the room.“Did you tell Makay that he will be heading home soon?” Uncle Major asks as he sits down at the other table. “No, I didn’t. He will find out on the day that the two of you are leaving, I am still hoping to get some answers. And if I don’t, I hope this time has given Alpha Lincoln and Beta Lennox the time to find some answers.” I state. I even discussed this with Uncle Major, but he couldn’t provide me with answers either. We did come up with a few questions to ask, but so far we haven’t been able to ask Makay those questions. I enjoy my talks with Uncle Major, they answer questions that have always lingered in the back of my mind and nothing I could come up with answered them. Mom comes from a long line of Gammas, every female in her bloodline was mated to an Alpha or a Beta if their Mate wasn’t a Lycan. Every male was always mated to a Gamma’s Daughter and it didn’t matter what kind of Shifter they were.Even though Uncle Major explained that only Wolves and Lycans refer to the third in command as a Gamma. He called it a potayto-potahto situation, because no matter what you call it they are still third in command. I tried to correct him by calling it a tomayto-tomahto situation and that caused an entire new discussion between the two of us. Neither one of us is willing to back down and Calista has taken it upon herself to find out what the majority of the people here think. This, of course, is causing a huge discussion and even the Elders don’t shy away from butting in. Uncle Major and I have a lot of fun listening to everyone’s discussion on the subject, it has gotten so bad that at the moment most classes are no longer on the subject of their field but on the potayto-potahto versus tomayto-tomahto phrase. “How many tests got cancelled today?” I ask Uncle Major and he starts laughing as we walk out of the classroom.“All of them. I don’t think anyone was interested in their test today, they want to know who is going to win this discussion.” He answers. “They do realize that both phrases are exactly the same?” I ask and for a moment Uncle Major is quiet. “Of course not, they are totally different.” He replies and I grab a small notebook from my back pocket. I hold up the notebook for Uncle Major to see what I had written down and a moment later he starts laughing again. “I don’t think that anyone has written it out to compare the phrases to one another. You are right, they are exactly the same and this is going to be an endless discussion.” Uncle Major states. We walk into the dining room for lunch and the conversation at every table is the same, our potato or tomato discussion. I walk over to the whiteboard of the dining room and clear today’s menu before I grab the black marker. Potayto-potahto Tomayto-tomahto I write on the whiteboard and place it so that everyone can read it. A silence falls over the dining room as everyone reads the whiteboard and that is cause for everyone to look at their friends they had a huge discussion with, laughing once they realize that they were all right.
