Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Myka’s p.o.v. River had been surprised last night, when I told him that Alpha Lincoln wanted to talk to him. Luckily I had anticipated that and had come up with the perfect excuse, “He wants to talk to everyone in the Pack, but he realized that talking with the Omegas first and then the Sigmas that it had looked as if he favored the Omegas. So, now he is going to call in whoever he wants to talk to and no longer going from low to high rank.” I had said to River and he had actually believed me. Magnus walks onto our floor and he grabs some coffee before sitting down. As the future Alpha, he will be joining us for the conversation that his Father will have with River and I get to be present at request of my Dad. River and I finish our breakfast, before we head down to the ground floor and walk over to the Alpha office. “Ever been called in by the Alpha?” Magnus asks teasingly and River shakes his head. “Magnus and Myka, sit down on the couch and just pay attention.” Alpha Lincoln says, while pointing towards the couch. “River, I want to get to know each Pack-member and I want to find out if they have any concerns or wishes. I start this conversation with the same question every time, what was your childhood like?” Alpha Lincoln asks and I wait for River to answer it. “My Mother died when I was about four and Dad raised me by himself.” River answers, but I know it isn’t the answer that Alpha Lincoln or Dad wants to hear. “No siblings?” Dad asks and we hear a soft growl come from River. “River, your former Alpha made a mess of the archive and asking these questions will help us. So, why did you growl at Beta Lennox?” Alpha Lincoln asks. For a moment, River is quiet and I look at Dad to see if he might be linking someone. A small shake of Dad’s head is enough answer for me and again I just wait for River to start talking. “When I was two years old, an old friend from Dad had died during a Rogue attack. Not that I really understood it all at the time, but I did understand that someone took my Mother’s attention away from me.” River says, but it doesn’t make any sense to any of us. “Can you explain that with a bit more details?” Dad asks him. “He had a newborn girl and she came to live with us. Mom was more interested in taking care of her than she was of spending time with me. Mom tried to get me to spend time with the both of them, but Dad told me that she only did it to make herself feel better.” River mumbles. “Did you ever ask your Mom to spend time with just you?” Alpha Lincoln asks.“No, Dad said it would be useless. She would decline it or walk away the moment that baby started crying.” River replies. “What happened to that little girl after your Mother died?” Alpha Lincoln asks. “She kept living in our house and an Omega raised her. One day I woke up and both of them were gone, I never saw the Omega again, but she moved in with another family. Dad was glad that she was no longer a part of our lives.” River answers. We are all having trouble with containing our other half, this is his Sister he is talking about and hearing how a Beta has been treating his own Daughter. He is lucky that we want answers or one of us might have lost his cool. “River, can I ask you a hypothetical question?” I ask, after getting permission from Alpha Lincoln and River turns around to face me. “This is the situation, High-ranking Pack-member has a boy and his second born is a girl. At the age of four his Son gets tested and he turns out to be a Wolf, but one of his parents is a Lycan, his Mother. The girl is two at that time and then their Mom dies. What would you say or do if you heard that that High-ranking Pack-member and his Son started ignoring that girl?” I ask him. “No High-ranking Pack-member would do that to their own Pup, their Wolf wouldn’t allow it and neither would any of the other Pack-members.” River answers. Normally I would have said that he is correct, but I know what happened to Meadow and River is completely clueless. “What if I told you that the situation I just described, actually did happen?” I ask. “You have got to be kidding me, why would anyone do that to their Daughter or Sister?” River asks. “That is what I am asking you, why did you ignore your baby Sister?” I ask again and he just shakes his head. Dad hands him Meadow’s file and we can see by the look on his face that this is all new information to him, he never knew that Meadow was his Baby Sister. Their Father had lied to River and both of them had hurt Meadow in the process. “Where is she? I haven’t seen her since the night that Alpha Hank died.” River asks, but I am not going to tell him where she is. “That is what we were hoping to find out, we have no idea where she might have gone or when she left. The only reason we know that she is your baby Sister, is because of Myka’s digging through the archive and I was hoping that you could answer a few questions about Meadow.” Alpha Lincoln says. We manage to stop him from going after his Father and I know we have to give him something to hold on to. “We will figure out where she went and we will make sure that she hears the truth, but for the time being you need to act as if you don’t know the truth.” I say to River. “Blame your anger towards him on the laws that they have stretch to the limits for their own benefit, let him think that you are angry at him for not educating properly.” Magnus says. Something that has been very obvious to us, ever since we got to Gold Moon Pack.
