Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Makay’s p.o.v. I still can’t believe that they turned off the hot water or didn’t warn me about the rush on lunch. “Maybe if you hadn’t stalled, you would have been on time and have had all the information.” Blade growls in my head. He is repeating the words of that little wannabe Warrior, just to annoy the hell out of me. She thinks she can get me to change my mind, I will show them that you don’t mess with a Bear. I can’t wait until we get to the real training, because that is when they will find out that a female can’t beat me and I will enjoy humiliating them. “How is Gold Moon in comparison to Black Valley Pack?” Maryan asks me and for a moment I think about how to answer her question.“We are raised to value each Pack-member, from our Warriors to our Omegas. Each Pack-member contributes to Pack life and one will contribute more one day and less on another day. That is how things work in Black Valley Pack, but Gold Moon Pack…..” I let the sentence trail off for a little dramatic effect. “Gold Moon doesn’t cherish every Pack-member. Rory, Alpha Hank’s Son, said that Pack-members that didn’t pull their weight around the Pack had to fend for themselves, he meant Omegas and Sigmas with that remark.” I say. Maryan is staring at me, the disbelief is clear in her eyes to see. I have witnessed how Omegas and Sigmas are treated here in Renegade territory, so I understand her disbelief. “Do they cook and clean themselves?” One of the other team members asks and I laugh at the idea of Rory or one of the others cooking or cleaning, I don’t see that happening anytime soon. “Want to see a Pack-house burn to the ground?” Maryan asks her and then we all start laughing. Maryan takes me for a tour of the territory and in the meantime she tells me about the rules around here. Breakfast at 07:30, lunch at 13:00 and you better not be late or there will be nothing left. Squad members that are still studying have their classes in the morning, the others train in the morning with their own team and in the afternoon everyone trains together. Our team is the exception to the rule, Meadow gets to determine her own schedule and I am surprised to find out that they switch their training hours between the afternoon and the evening. “An enemy doesn’t only strike during the day and Meadow believes that we will benefit from training in the dark. Other teams say that Meadow is nuts for running in the dark or for sparring in the dark, but I would say that I feel more confident now if I have to run in unfamiliar territory.” Maryan explains. She is right, in unfamiliar territory you don’t run at high speed. Maybe there is something to say for this training method, but only our Elite Warriors train in the evenings and I believe that goes for almost every Pack. “Meadow has always had a rigorous training schedule, she can handle just about any male in our Squad and I have witnessed her putting unknown males in their place. Don’t underestimate her or us.” Maryan warns me, before she leaves me in front of my room. I walk into my room to call my Brother, I want to know if he made any progress with the papers and maybe hear if anyone reported my stalling to Alpha Lincoln. The first place I look is on my nightstand, but it isn’t there and I slowly and methodically search my room. “Something wrong?” I hear someone asking from the doorway. “Yeah, I can’t find my phone.” I answer and I turn around when I hear someone chuckle.“Let me guess, Meadow is your team Captain?” Is the question I get and for a moment I think about turning my back on the male, before I nod my head. “Then you can stop searching, she probably had it taken away. If you are the troublemaker that got appointed to her team, that is.” He says, before he walks away from my room. I hear Blade chuckling in my head, he seems to think that this is funny. It is also the second time since getting my punishment that he has made himself heard, he is really pissed at me for getting into trouble and he hates that our Brother is angry with us. Not that Blade agrees with me, but he also can’t stop me from speaking my mind and believe me that he has tried to stop me from talking. I know that there are Packs that believe that any woman should be able to defend herself and that the leadership of a Pack should be at the front lines of a battle, but that would leave their Mates unprotected. An easy way to take down a Pack, if you ask me and according to history it has happened quite often. Therefore I don’t believe that a woman should try to fight off an enemy, it will only result in their deaths a lot quicker and that will weaken their Mate. It also takes a lot more training hours to train a woman to be able to do what a man can do and there is nothing that anyone can do or say to make me change my mind about that. Maryan might think that Meadow had a rigorous training schedule, but it won’t prepare her to fight off a Warrior of my caliber. She lacks my height and she lacks my brute force, she will be no match for me. My Brother once asked me what I would do if our fated Mate is a strong and capable Warrior, I had thought about it for a second or two and then I told him that I would reject her. Blade refused to talk to me for two whole weeks after that, Myka and Thyrius had avoided us for even longer and Mom had sent me to stay with Magnus. None of them appreciated my honesty and it had changed my relationship with Myka completely. He no longer confides in me if he has a personal problem and even on a day to day basis he would only speak to me if he had to but luckily that has gotten better over time. The only one Myka still talks to is Blade, but he never tells me what they talk about.
