Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Makay’s p.o.v. I watch as Meadow tries to get off the couch. It is a struggle with her huge belly, but I will wait until she asks for help. Myka learned a little quicker than I did that we should allow her to try it herself first and not jump up to help her every single time. I had the occasional black eye to prove it, but I never cared about it. “Can you give me a hand, Makay?” Meadow asks after a third failed attempt to get off the couch. “Anytime, Angel.” I answer as I take both her hands and gently pull her up. I hold onto her as she steadies herself and kiss the top of her head as she leans against me. In just one more week, we will welcome our children into this world. At least that is what Doc keeps telling us, because she expects our twins to arrive before their due date. “I want to go for a walk, get some fresh air.” Meadow mumbles into my chest. I know that this is code for; get me out of here or I am going to fall asleep. Myka is waiting for us near the front door and we slowly make our way out the door. Our rounds have decreased in size over the past two weeks, and I doubt we will make a large round today. Myka guides Meadow to the left and it looks as if he wants to take a walk around the Pack-house. “Infirmary.” Meadow says as she grabs my arm. A second later, I can feel pain through our bond and I scoop her up to walk to the infirmary. “I have linked Mom to let her know. She will take care of everything.” Myka says as we take a right turn to the infirmary. Doc is already waiting for us as we walk in and we follow him to the delivery room. I place Meadow on the bed and Doc leaves to give us the chance to help Meadow out of her clothes. Myka calls her back in when Meadow is settled in and Doc checks her dilation to determine how long this might take. “Okay, I hope you are all ready for this. Your kids have no intention of waiting. This is going to be quick.” Doc says as two nurses walk in with two portable cribs and they place them in the corner of the room. It takes less than five minutes for Doc to call out that the first baby is crowning. I look over at Myka as Meadow squeezes the hell out of my hand and the grimace on his face mimics mine as Doc tells Meadow to push. “One more push and your first child will be here.” Doc says and Meadow braces herself to give another push to give birth for the first time. “Congratulations, it’s a boy.” I kiss the top of Meadow’s head as our Son decides to make it known that he has entered the world. “How long before his twin announces his or her arrival?” Myka asks as Meadow leans back into the pillow. “A minute or ten minutes, it depends on your child. They decide when it is time to enter this world.” Doc says as a nurse places our firstborn on his Mother’s chest. It only takes a second before Meadow asks the nurse to retake our Son. I don’t get the chance to ask her what is going on, because the moment she grabs my hand, I know it is time for our second child to be born. Myka and I both whisper sweet nothings near her head as she pushes at Doc’s request. “I can see the head. Push again.” Doc says and Meadow does as she is asked. “One more big push and you can hold your second child.” The moment Meadow falls back into the pillow, we hear the crying of our second child. A higher pitch than our Son’s and I smile as Doc announces the birth of our Daughter. I had hoped for a boy and a girl and I got my wish. It only takes a minute or two before Myka and I are holding our children, while Meadow is waiting for Doc to inform us that her placenta has detached. “Uhm, we might have a surprise here.” Doc says and both nurses rush over to take the kids from us. “It seems that there is a third child. How did we miss that?” I doubt she is asking any of us the question, because if she doesn’t know how our third child was overlooked, then how are we supposed to know? Meadow braces herself for a final push to welcome our third child into the world and I hope there will be no more surprises after this one. Blade is running around in the back of my head at the mention of another Daughter. “Congratulations. A boy and two girls.” Doc says after Meadow has had a chance to catch her breath and she places our Son on his Mother’s chest with his Sisters on either side. “Thank you, Angel.” I whisper before I kiss her forehead. If these are the only children we will ever have, I will be a proud and happy Father. Our children are healthy and we have a mix of both genders. What else do you need? Doc leaves the room to inform our family members that our children have been born, but Meadow asked her not to reveal our surprise arrival. “We need to come up with a name for this little surprise.” Myka says as he lifts her off her Mother’s chest. “No need for that. I had taken into consideration that we could have two boys or two girls and picked two names to be on the safe side.” Meadow replies. Myka and I wanted to break our family’s unintentional and strange tradition, but Meadow made it clear that she would pick the names for our children. Which, by my calculation, means that our children’s names will start with an N. Milcah had a baby boy, a little over a month ago and his name is Nathan. I know for a fact that no one else has realized our strange tradition, but I doubt it will be long before Meadow spills the beans. “Can one of you tell the family to go home? I want to get some rest and a few more hours alone with our children. They can meet them in the morning.” Meadow says. Myka places our Daughter back on Meadow’s chest and we walk out of the room to inform the family of Meadow’s request. Our lives will be different from here on out, but I wouldn’t want to change a damn thing. This is where I am meant to be in Gold Moon territory with my Brother, our Mate and our children.
