Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Meadow’s p.o.v. I am starting to hate Caldwell more with each passing minute. He rejected his fated Mate, he banned the Omegas from training and it wouldn’t surprise me if he is responsible for switching the border maps. We head back to the Pack-house for lunch, after which we will have our training session. It is a routine we developed over the past year and I love how in sync we are with one another. We know how to bring out the best in one another and push each other to our limits. After two more days of secretly training Amila, Alpha Lincoln shows up and it takes Mom only a few minutes to know that something is bothering me. “What is going on, Meadow?” Mom asks. I smile as I remember how uncomfortable I was at first calling my in-laws 'Mom' and 'Dad,' but now it is second nature. “I don’t have all the proof I need yet, but Caldwell has been undermining his Brother since he took over as the Alpha. Gideon is unaware of many things that Caldwell has done, but I haven’t been able to figure out the why.” I answer her. Maryan explains what they found out by visiting the neighboring Packs and to say that Alpha Lincoln is pissed off is putting it mildly. “Gideon is an incredible Alpha; he took over in less than perfect circumstances. His training wasn’t complete when his Father died and the same goes for his Beta and Gamma. Each of them did the best they could. It isn’t surprising that they might have missed a few changes.” Alpha Lincoln says. “So far, we have discovered the following. The border map was replaced with a false one; the Omegas were instructed to stop training and focus on their jobs instead, to make Gideon and Silent Crest Pack look better.” I respond. Makay hands him the map that was drawn at my request and a copy of the map that Gideon has. On the copy, we have marked the differences between them and it paints a disturbing picture. “Can you get me the reports on the attacks that took place after Gideon took over as the Alpha?” Alpha Lincoln asks as he walks over to the dining room in the guest house they are staying in. Myka hands him the reports because we suspected that he would want to take a closer look at this. We also know what he will find and all we can do is wait for him to connect the dots, just as we did. “When is this match taking place, Meadow?” Luna Leona asks and we discuss Amila’s training and her progress, but we don’t mention our reasoning for picking her. We leave the guest house to continue with training, not just our own training or Amila’s training, but also that of the Pack Warriors. Silent Crest Pack will be a force to be reckoned with if they maintain this schedule and hopefully, it will stop the attacks. Like the past few nights, I am asleep before my Mates have joined me in bed. I blame it on my busy schedule, which includes training Amila in addition to my regular training schedule, and it will return to normal when we get back home.“Rebel, stop being so annoying.” I mumble at my Lycan, who has been softly humming for the past ten minutes. She is wagging her tail as she continues humming and I become more annoyed as she starts humming a little louder. “Concentrate, Human. You might be surprised what you find when you take a moment to just focus on yourself for a moment.” Rebel says before she continues humming again. I know that she is being cryptic, but that there is something I need to figure out for myself. I allow myself to relax and concentrate on my breathing for a few minutes, inhaling and exhaling slowly, in and out. The first thing I notice is the lack of sounds in the room. My Mates aren’t softly snoring as they usually do; they are actually quiet for once. I smile as I allow other sounds to register and it takes a moment before I hear the heartbeats. First, I hear my own beating steadily as I lie there. Then I hear Myka’s heart, as it is closest to me and then I hear Makay’s heart beating steadily, just as mine. I concentrate on our hearts beating and they are almost beating in sync. It is then that I notice something unusual: two soft throbs that sound like echoes of our heartbeats. As I concentrate on the throbs, I realize that they are coming from inside me. “Took you long enough, Human. Let’s see if our Mates can figure it out.” Rebel says and I place a hand on my stomach as I wait for my Mates to wake up.Damn, if Magnus’ protectiveness over Milcah is an indication, then I am in for a long and trying few months. Or I might kill my Mates before our children are born. “Good morning, Angel. You were out like a light again last night.” Myka says before he kisses the top of my head. “Is training Amila getting a bit much?” “I don’t know. It is more training than I did as a Renegade, but I didn’t think it would affect me this much.” I answer him. It is the truth, but only because I was unaware of my pregnancy. Makay snuggles closer to my back and for a while, we just lie there, holding one another. We love these short moments we have in the morning or evening and I will treasure those moments even more in the future. “Good morning, Kids. Time to get up.” Mom calls out after she has opened the door slightly. Myka and Makay both groan as they pull the sheet over their heads, but I slide out of bed to use the bathroom and get dressed. Myka is the first one to follow me into the bathroom and by the time I am dressed, Makay walks out of the bedroom. Breakfast is uneventful, unless you would like to hear about Caldwell and his bragging about his fighting skills. I know I wish I hadn’t been present for it. “After lunch, you will face your nemesis, Caldwell.” I say as I walk out of the Pack-house. He is sitting on the front porch, as every morning, surrounded by a handful of women. The train of people follows me out the door, but we all split up to meet up at one of the few clearings not every Pack-member knows about. Only the Omegas knew about them; the clearings were their sanctuaries and they trusted Renya and Bodin with their locations.
