Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Makay’s p.o.v. Meadow has asked us to keep an eye on Caldwell, to ensure that he doesn’t follow them when they leave to train with the Omega they've picked. Myka and I know why they are training Amila and I know that she will kick Caldwell’s ass. The guy does show up for the training sessions, but doesn’t move from his seat. “I doubt that Gideon is aware of his lack of training. He is more interested in flirting with the high-ranking girls than he is in bettering himself as a fighter.” Myka whispers as we watch Hayden explain a few things to Silent Crest Warriors. “My guess is that he deliberately chooses a training session that Gideon can’t attend.” Magnus responds. “He is counting on the Pack-members to stay quiet. They probably assume that their Alpha is aware or they fear retaliation.” We have been here for three days now and over the past two days, we have reviewed their patrol schedule. It isn’t that they were lacking in their patrols, but rather that they lacked variety in them. It hadn’t changed over the course of at least two decades. Gideon asked Meadow why it was a bad thing to keep things the same if they worked and I regret not warning him upfront. She gave him a two hour lecture on what was wrong with their patrols staying the same and all he could do in the end was agree with her.“Pay attention. I am not correcting you to embarrass you; it is for your safety and that of your Pack-members.” Hayden calls out. “I would like to believe that each of you cares enough for the people around you to be the best you can be.” I chuckle as some of them look uncomfortable; it isn’t uncommon for him to throw this remark at our own Pack-members and it always causes everyone to do better. “Why do I need to train this hard to protect those who are unwilling to learn to defend themselves?” One of the Warriors asks and I know that we are all very eager to hear why he feels this way. “Can you explain your question to me?” Hayden asks and the answer he gets is a shocking one for us. “Our Omegas don’t train because they believe that we are supposed to protect them.” The Warrior answers and I am not surprised when Myka asks him who informed them about that. “Caldwell told us when they started missing their first training sessions.” Another Warrior responds and I turn to see Caldwell’s seat being empty. He must have sneaked off while we weren’t paying attention. We listen as the Warriors tell us about when the Omegas stopped training and it becomes clear that it happened around the same time that Gideon took over as Alpha. I get an inkling feeling that it was intentional on Caldwell’s part. “Meadow, when did Caldwell reject Amila?” I ask her through the mind-link, making sure that all our Pack-members in the territory can hear it. “When Gideon took over as the Alpha. Like Madden’s Ceremony, it was on a Full Moon.” Meadow answers and everything is making more sense now. “Just to make it more annoying, Amila is a Mountain Lion.” Oh, yeah. This is getting more interesting by the minute and I hope that Amila is able to kick the Asshat’s ass when the time comes. He will be exposed after that match, one way or the other. “Let’s get back to training. This topic will be addressed in a few days and you all will be in for a huge surprise.” Hayden says as he pairs everyone off. It takes them a minute or two to concentrate on the instructions, but once they do, it becomes clear that they are generally well-trained. “Caldwell isn’t going to appreciate us meddling in his business.” Myka says as he leans toward me. “Not that Meadow will care about it, she is only interested in justice.” I know my Mate well enough to know that she will make Caldwell pay for what he put Amila through and I will back her up every step of the way. “Gideon is going to be pissed with his baby Brother for what he did and I am not only talking about the rejection of Amila.” Myka says. “I know that Madden and Magnus would be pissed if someone pulled that stunt on them.” I respond to his statement. “No one gets to make that decision but the Alpha and his leadership. We can make a suggestion, but we cannot take that decision out of their hands.” Every Pack is run similarly with minor differences, but in the big scheme of things, each Alpha makes the final call on whatever happens within his territory.Meadow will butt heads with Magnus in the future, but she will never do anything without his approval. We all know the importance of the hierarchy within a Pack and what the consequences can be if we ignore it. “Are you planning on telling Dad about our discovery?” Myka asks and I confirm his suspicions. I mean, I couldn’t hide it from him if I tried and I don’t want to. It is a sure way of getting Alpha Lincoln on our side and he will make it clear to Caldwell and everyone else that undermining your Alpha is a capital offence. “That’s it for now. Those who are interested can return in two hours to see us train and join us if you feel up to it.” Hayden says as the girls approach us. The Warriors are talking amongst themselves as they grab a bottle of water and it sounds like they enjoyed the training session. It is different from how they usually train, but sometimes you need a fresh pair of eyes to make a difference. “Hello, Angel. Did you enjoy yourself today?” I ask as Myka and I sandwich her between us. “Yes, I did. I have also taken a walk around the border with Calista. Valentino pointed out a few problems we didn’t see on the map and I sent both of them out there to draw me a new map of the borders.” Meadow whispers. None of us had expected that and I wonder if it was kept from us deliberately or if Gideon is unaware of it as well. Could it be that someone hid the original map of the borders and handed Gideon one with flaws in it?This visit is getting more interesting the longer we stay and my gut tells me that it isn’t over by a long shot.
