Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 174 My Heart

Milcah’s p.o.v. I can feel her anger as I let my aura seep out to calm her down. I also feel sadness, probably from losing the Mate she was paired with. “I am going to make him regret what he did.” She whispers before she passes out from exhaustion. Magnus lifts her off the ground to bring her inside, where our Moms are waiting for us. After we have make sure that our Moms are on the Alpha floor, Magnus and I make our way down to the Gamma floor. The Alpha floor is full enough with Madden and Mylah finding their fated Mates and we want to get a good night’s sleep. As I place my head on Magnus’ chest, I send a thank you to our Goddess for giving me a Mate who cares for who I am and not my rank. I fall asleep as I listen to his heartbeat and the feeling of his hand running up and down my back. “Sweetheart, wake up.” I hear Magnus say next to my ear and I slowly open my eyes. “We need to get dressed and down to the main dining room.” I have no idea why this is so important, but I get out of bed to get ready for breakfast. Magnus walks to the walk-in closet and it is clear that he has already been in the bathroom; his hair is still damp from the shower he took. As I walk into the bathroom, I pull my hair up to lock it in place with a clip, because I don’t want it to become wet and turn on the shower. “What is the rush, Magnus?” I ask as I walk out of the bathroom after finishing my morning routine. “I will explain once we are in the dining room. I just hope that we are the first to get there.” He says as he pulls on his sneakers. There is nothing I can think of that would help me understand this, so I decide to wait for his explanation in the dining room. We walk into an almost empty dining room, the only Shifters walking around are Omegas who are setting everything up for breakfast. We sit down at our table as an Omega walks over with some coffee and the smile on her face shows me that this is somewhat normal. “Managed to get here first for a change, Magnus?” She asks teasingly and now I am even more curious about his explanation. “Our leadership always tries to be in the main dining room first after a Full Moon. It is a tradition in our family that has been passed down for centuries. We are the first to see who found their fated Mate and congratulate them on their bond. It is also an indication for Dad. No, wait. For Madden to see if he loses a Pack-member or gains a Pack-member.” Magnus explains. I let my mind process the information as I take a sip of my coffee and Magnus places a notebook in front of me. “You get to write down the couples. I will tell you their names if you don’t know them.” He says as I open it.Each page contains a date and a list of names; some pages have multiple dates with a short list or no list at all. Behind some of the couples is a plus or minus sign, which probably refers to whether they are staying or leaving the territory. Magnus confirms the meaning of the symbols as I write down today’s date and start with Madden and Brooklyn, followed by Matheus and Madison. I know there are more couples, but my attention had been on my Brother in law and I didn’t get to see many other couples pair off. “Mylah and Dakota, but I can’t tell you where they will go.” Magnus says and I write down the name of my Sister in law and her fated Mate. “Then there is Makayla with Tyson; they might choose Gold Moon over Black Valley.” “Let’s not forget Marisol and Dawson.” I hear Meadow say as she walks into the dining room. “I can’t tell you which Pack they will choose, though.” Black Valley’s leadership has all found their fated Mates and so did their baby Sisters. It will be beneficial to have a leadership here with their fated Mates by their side; it will strengthen their Pack even further. It was always one of the strongest Packs around because they always waited for their fated Mates and now there is another leadership with strong bonds to their Mates. It will take a few years for Gold Moon to build up its strength, but it is already close to Black Valley in terms of strength. “How many of your friends found their fated Mate?” Magnus asks Meadow and I see that Florence and her twin Brother, Ryder, are missing from my list at the moment. “I didn’t see the twins leave, but they weren’t around for the rest of the party. The same goes for the rest of my team, to be honest.” Meadow answers. The dining room is slowly filling with Pack-members who didn’t find their fated Mate last night or who are already mated. They sit down at tables near the back of the room, leaving empty tables for the couples who aren’t here yet. Soft murmurs are heard as we eat our breakfast and drink our coffee. Most Pack-members glance at the doorway from time to time, hoping to see the newly mated couples before they have to get back to work. Our families are complete and everyone has congratulated the new couples. I smile as I see a few stolen kisses and hands being held under the table. I am happy for everyone who found their fated Mate, it is the best feeling in the world. “I am glad we found one another when we did. I love you, Sweetheart.” I hear Magnus say through our mind-link as he places his hand on top of mine. I wasn’t looking for a Mate, nor did I want a Mate at that time. But like Magnus, I am grateful we found each other. My future is going to be better than I had ever imagined. I can go wherever I want to go and no one will ever tell me what I can’t do or say. I lean toward the man who holds my heart and will protect it with his life.
