Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 164 Looking Suspicious

Malek’s p.o.v. I slowly open my eyes to see Marley sitting at the foot of the bed with a notebook on her lap. “What are you doing, Baby?” I ask as I get out of bed to use the bathroom. “Writing down all the questions I have after reading those journals. There are a lot of questions that have an answer, but there are enough without an answer.” Marley responds as she looks up at me. I lean down to peck her lips before continuing to walk to the bathroom as I say, “We can go over those questions before we continue with the last journals; one of us might have the answer for you.” Marley and I are sitting on the couch across the room, while Mauro is still hugging the pillow. His arm shoots out to feel around the bed and I can feel discomfort flowing through our bond. “We are right here, Mauro. We wouldn’t leave you behind.” I say as Marley is looking toward him. “Damn, this is not a nice way to wake up. Next time, wake me or stay on the bed.” Mauro growls as he sits up and Marley quickly walks over to him to calm him down. While they are snuggling, I walk into the bathroom and remind Mauro through the mind-link to take it easy with Marley. “Sorry for what I said.” I hear Mauro say. “I am not going to tell you how to live your life. I just didn’t like waking up without you right here with me.” “I understand and I will try to keep it in mind. Now, get out of bed and get dressed. I want to read the last of those journals, get answers from the Elders and hopefully, we can finally give Uncle Joseph some peace.” Marley says. I hear her giggle, but can’t see what is happening. A moment later, Mauro walks in with Marley in his arms and places her on the counter next to me. We go through our morning routine in silence and I walk into the walk-in closet to grab a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt, knowing that it will be most comfortable for today. As I walk out of the closet, Marley walks in with Mauro behind her and I block her path to cup her face with my hands and kiss her for a few seconds. I break the kiss when her breathing becomes labored and smack her ass as I walk away. “These are good questions. We might need to read the Alpha journals to get a few answers. I doubt Alpha Koa told anyone why he kept Jacan as his Beta, but he might have written it down somewhere.” Mauro says as we walk out of our room. “Dad already gave me the journals.” Magnus says as he walks out of Mom’s private office and we follow him up to the Alpha floor for breakfast. We don’t mention the journals during breakfast, because we want to enjoy some family time without discussing the past. We want to stay in the present for a little while longer. “Okay, Marley. Which questions did you write down?” Mauro asks as we sit down and she opens her notebook to read them out loud. “Why did Koa decide to keep Jacan as his Beta? Why didn’t Ilma share the Beta position? Why did Jacan wait with his plan until Mahina turned eighteen? How did Mahina’s guards know that she was up there? Did her guards help her escape? How long did it take for Jacan to realize that Mahia had escaped? Did a later generation find out the truth about Gold Moon Pack? If they did, why didn’t they act on the information?” Marley reads out loud. Meadow has written every question on the whiteboard that wasn’t there yet. Her hand with the marker keeps hovering around the last two questions and a second later, she writes down yes in capital letters. “He knew. It is part of the reason why he messed up the archive. He needed a reason to discredit Alpha Hank, but he never figured that the Idiot would confront Alpha Lincoln on his own.” Meadow explains. “Let’s hope that the journals give us some answers. Maybe Rhys was dumb enough to write his plans and ideas in one of them.” Myka responds Meadow hands out the remaining journals of the Fareye family and Magnus gets an Alpha journal for himself and Milcah. It takes about half an hour to find the first answer. Keola wanted to keep Jacan close to prevent him from plotting against them, but we already know that the plan backfired. “It makes me think that Jacan didn’t plan much himself and had help from someone. Which brings me to another question: why would anyone want to help Jacan kill their Alpha and Luna?” Meadow asks. “Someone who would gain from it.” Marley responds. “Someone like, Reese Fareye.” We all stare at her as we try to make sense of her remark and she slowly looks up from the journal she was reading. “Ilma mentioned that she declined the Beta position because her Father never trained her. He always talked down to her, took every opportunity to make her look incompetent. She hoped to find her fated Mate and leave the territory, but Reese had other ideas.” She says as she points at the journal on her lap. If these journals are correct, then they conspired to take over the Pack. Now there is a new question on the whiteboard: Where did they go to plan this? “In the Beta house. Jacan built it for Ilma, probably as a way to keep her quiet and far away from the position she had a right to.” Marley answers and tells us what she has read so far. “They turned one of the bedrooms into an office and would disappear into it, at least two days a week and sometimes more.” Marley continues. “Ilma didn’t like the secrecy, but so far, there is no mention of her informing Koa or Keola.” It does make sense to plan this as far away from the Alpha and Luna as possible. It would be easier to keep everything behind lock and key than it would have been on the Beta floor. As the Alpha, Koa could walk onto the Beta floor and a locked room or office would have looked suspicious, especially with their history and Koa’s distrust of Jacan.
