Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Marley’s p.o.v. “Alpha Lincoln, I would like to report a theft.” I hear Rhys say as I take a sip of my coffee. “Theft of what, Rhys?” Alpha Lincoln asks. He isn't pleased with Rhys addressing an issue like this in public and if Rhys wants to discuss the rest in private, I might call him out in public. “I am missing something personal. Maybe we can discuss this in your office, Alpha.” Rhys answers, but before I can object, Luna Leona responds. “Rhys, you made it a public matter by speaking up in the main dining room. You can explain everything here or you can keep it to yourself.” Luna Leona says and several Pack-members grab another cup of coffee, instead of leaving the dining room as they intended. I lift my coffee cup to hide the smile on my face, but some of the others have already seen it. “Rhys, speak up or get lost. Choice is yours.” Luna Leona growls as he seems indecisive about what to do. “I am missing my family's journals.” Rhys says after a few more minutes of silence. “Those journals are private property and I want them returned to me, immediately.” Alpha Lincoln slowly gets out of his seat and I hear five voices through the mind-link say, “Uh-oh.” “Rhys, if those are Beta journals, they belong to the Pack. Everyone has a right to read them to learn from past mistakes. If they are personal journals, then you have the right to keep them for yourself. So, tell me. Are the ones you are missing, Beta journals?” Alpha Lincoln asks. He doesn't need Rhys to answer the question because he already knows that they are Beta journals. We are just hoping that he will respond and make a mistake in his answer. “Don't his Son and Daughter have a right to read those journals if they happen to be personal journals?” Milcah asks as she looks at Magnus. “Yes, they have a right to read those journals if they belong to the Fareye family. If they happen to be Beta journals, his children also have a right to read them. So basically, it doesn't matter what type of journals they are, his children can read them.” Magnus responds. Meadow Milcah and I turn to look at him and we can see panic flashing through his eyes. He can't decide who to address and chooses to take the easy way out. “Alpha Lincoln, your Son is correct. My children are allowed to read those journals, but I don't want anyone outside the family to read them.” Rhys reacts. “Are you telling me that those missing journals are personal ones?” Alpha Lincoln repeats. After all, Rhys didn't answer his question about the type of journals he was missing. If Rhys has a brain, he can understand from Alpha Lincoln's question that he knows they aren't personal journals. “They are Beta journals, but with some personal stories written in them.” Rhys finally answers. “In that case, whoever took them will return them to me. I can understand that you don't want to get into trouble; therefore, I will leave my office unlocked tonight.” Alpha Lincoln states before he sits down again. “Are you talking about the journals that Meadow found hidden in her room as a child?” Myka asks as he looks at Rhys. I don’t think I have ever seen a Shifter turn this pale in my life. Rhys’ face is as white as a sheet and beads of sweat start running down his forehead. He looks from me to Meadow before he looks at Milcah, not knowing which of us is, in fact, his Daughter. “How?? When??” Rhys starts to mumble and the three of us smile up at him. “Just before she moved out.” Myka answers. With Myka answering Rhys’ question, he keeps Rhys from finding out which of us is his Daughter. Acadia is having a hard time with this, while I have to do my best not to burst out in laughter. “She handed them over to Magnus the other day and to say they are an interesting read is putting it mildly.” Malek says as he squeezes my hand. “Don’t speak. I want to keep him guessing.” Magnus says through the mind-link. I wasn’t planning on speaking, but I can’t say the same about Meadow, who sends a death glance in Magnus’ direction. “I wanted to make sure that the Moron understands that we know the truth about my family.” Meadow growls through the mind-link. “Let him think that we haven’t read much. I want to see if he is willing to break the law.” Magnus states. “I never realized that your family had been such a major part of the Royal War. I thought that every Pack that contributed to the war in a huge way was awarded the title of Royal Pack.” Myka says. I hear a few giggles and chuckles through the mind-link as Rhys turns almost transparent. He growls softly as he turns around and stomps out of the dining room. “Iron Nightwalkers Pack was a Royal Pack, but after the name change, Jacan declined the title.” Meadow mumbles. “He didn’t want the Royals to come and go as they pleased and as a Royal Pack, you have to allow them into your territory, no matter what.” Alpha Lincoln sends us back up to the Gamma floor with the request to get a good night’s sleep and return to reading the journals in the morning. “I want to know everything that is written in those journals. Who knew about Jacan killing and replacing the Alpha? Who helped him? Anything that can help us understand this even better.” Alpha Lincoln says. I help Malek and Mauro set up everything in Laney’s office for the next morning. She offered her private office to make it easier for us to get to the bottom of this. We all have questions and hopefully we can answer all of them soon. We all hope that these last journals will answer any questions we have left. Maybe even give us some closure on what happened with Mahina.I am the first one to wake up in the morning and I take advantage of it to take another long look at my Mates. Both of them stir in their sleep before they bury their nose deeper in the pillow I slept on and it makes me realize that it calms them down. It is an amazing sight to see. My Mates snuggling a pillow to keep themselves calm, while I sit at the foot of the bed to watch them sleep.
