Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Marley’s p.o.v. I sit at the foot of the bed as I watch my Mates sleep, both of them hugging the pillow I slept on. My body still feels a bit sore from last night, but it isn’t too bad. My cheeks turn a little red as I remember what happened last night, but I don’t regret it for a second. Acadia is softly snoring in the back of my head and I can feel happiness flowing through the bond I have with Mauro and Malek. Mauro’s eyes slowly open as he wakes and his eyes widen when he looks at his Brother’s face instead of mine. It takes him a second to realize that I am watching him and a megawatt smile appears the moment we lock eyes. “What are you doing over there, Baby?” He asks as he sits up. “Needed to use the bathroom and when I got back, the two of you where hugging that pillow. So, I decided to sit here and watch the two of you sleep.” I answer him as I move toward him. He pulls me against his chest when I am close enough and I place my head on his chest to look at Malek, who is still fast asleep. Neither one of us says a word as we sit against the headboard, enjoying the silence and each other. I have placed my hand on Malek’s arm, feeling the need to have a connection with him. My thumb moves slowly as I watch his body rise up and down as he breathes. “I never wanted to think about finding my Mate. Not just because of Devlin and his delusions, but also out of fear of my bloodline. Grandma told me that my Mother was the Daughter of a Beta and she didn’t know how it would influence my bloodline. We discussed it for hours, but couldn’t come up with an answer. I am glad that we will never have to worry about the Belleron bloodline, that our children will never have to concern themselves with it.” I say as Malek opens his eyes. “Same here, Baby.” Malek responds. “I am happy that we will never have to worry about that and can live a rather normal life.” I stare at him as I try to figure out what he means by a relatively everyday life. What kind of trouble could we face in the future for him to make that remark? “We are the future Gammas of Gold Moon Pack, even though it hasn’t been announced officially yet.” Malek says as if he understands where my mind went. “Their biggest problem will be keeping power-hungry Shifters at bay.” He is right, our children will have problems as they grow up, but they will be peanuts compared to the children of Milcah and Meadow. After getting dressed, we walk into the living room to find the rest of the family waiting for us. Each of them is smiling as we enter and I get pulled in for a hug from Laney. The rest of the day, we are hanging out on the Gamma floor with the others. Tomorrow, we will read the last journals and hopefully get a few answers ourselves about what happened all those years ago. “Is there anything you would want to change, if you could?” Milcah asks as she looks at Meadow, after we have been discussing how many Shifters in the Pack knew about her, but didn’t say anything about it. “I don’t think so. My life played out the way it was meant to be. If I could change something, would I have ended up where I am today?” Meadow responds. “Eventually, I might have found Myka and Makay. Or we could have never met and taken chosen Mates.” Damn, the same applies to me. If I had taken a chance at running away, it could have taken years for me to find my Mates. I doubt I would have taken a chosen Mate, but my Mates could have taken a chosen Mate to secure their position. “If that happened, I would have to take Makayla as my Beta. Dad wouldn’t allow one of us to take over with a chosen Mate.” Magnus pulls a disgusted face as he says it and I feel the rumble through Malek’s chest as he softly laughs. We talk about their Sisters for a while and I learn that the girls are sweet and caring, but little furies if you cross them. “If anyone would ever make fun of another Pack-member, they would not only tell Dad about it, they would also ask Dad to let them decide on the punishment. Our Sisters know a lot about our Pack-members, because they were always told that knowledge is power.” Magnus says with a smirk on his face. “Marisol is the best at coming up with a suitable punishment. I always feared the day that she would turn that ability against me, but it hasn’t happened yet.” Mauro says. The look on the others’ faces shows me that he isn’t kidding and I would like to get to know my Sister in law. We each hear stories about our Mates and some are hilarious while others are embarrassing. Not that our families care about it, they have fun recounting some of our less-than-finer moments. We only leave the Gamma floor in the evening to go down to the main dining room and Alpha Lincoln takes the time to inform the Pack-members that I am the fated Mate of Mauro and Malek. Meadow points out that Rhys has been staring at us ever since we walked into the dining room and our Mates growl at him as they turn to face him. It doesn’t stop the staring and it takes me a second to realize that our appearance is the cause of him looking at us. “He is probably trying to find out why the three of you look so much alike. Anyone who doesn’t know you would assume that you are related somehow.” Acadia mumbles. “Do you think that he has figured it out yet?” I hear Milcah ask and Meadow starts giggling. “Nah, it will take him some time to figure it out. He might have been the Beta, but he isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.” Myka responds. Something tells me that it isn’t our appearance that has him staring at us. I think that he either suspects that we know the truth and have the journals or he suspects it. No matter what the reason is, trouble is coming our way and his name is Rhys.
