Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 153 A Loophole

Marley’s p.o.v. We all wait patiently for King Joseph to calm down and in the meantime, Alpha Lincoln informs the Pack that the roar came from the King. “How do you know that they were murdered?” King Joseph asks. “Every Pack-member had the same story, if anyone ever got the chance to ask them about it.” “Out of fear for their own lives or that of their families.” I answer him. “Mahina wrote these journals while she was locked in a small structure up on the rooftop. Yes, the same structure I was trapped in.” I recount what I read in the journals about that fateful day and the following years that Mahina spent in captivity. “She managed to escape with the help of a Warrior and an Omega. It is also the last information I have on Mahina. Her last entry was from before she escaped and something tells me that she didn’t make it out of the territory.” I finish my story. “Why do you think that she didn't make it out of the territory?” Alpha Lincoln asks me. “If she did, then she would have gone to the Palace. If she did, the last Alpha’s bloodline wouldn’t have existed. No King would have allowed the Bluetail family to stay in power with the truth out there.” I answer him. Myka has been typing on his tablet for the duration of my story, and everyone stares at him after I have finished. “All I can find in the Archive is a remark in two files. An Omega and a Warrior left the territory around the time you are describing, but no mention of where they went.” Myka says. “I’ll contact Elder Chelsea. Ask if she can find a few more answers. If they went to another Pack, there has to be a trail to follow.” Meadow says as she walks out of the living room. King Joseph gets to hear all our stories as we drink our coffee and he asks Grandma if she wants him to break the bond she has with Devlin. “Does he have to be here for that to happen?” Grandma asks. “If I never have to see him again, it will still be too soon.” “Luna Layina, do you reject Devlin as your chosen Mate? Do you renounce your title as the Luna of Seven Cloud Pack?” King Joseph asks. “I, Luna Layina of Seven Cloud Pack, reject Alpha Devlin as my chosen Mate and renounce my title as the Luna of Seven Cloud Pack.” Grandma responds as Magnus and Milcah step beside her. They each grab one of Grandma’s hands and for the first time in my life, I see healers at work. A white glow surrounds their interlinked fingers, which start to brighten at first before fading away completely. “Thank you. Both of you.” Grandma says as she looks at her hands and she smiles up at me with a smile I haven’t seen in many years. “I got word from the Warriors in the dungeons. For a moment, they thought that Devlin was dying. That was until one of them noticed that he was clutching his chest.” Alpha Lincoln informs us. I don’t feel sorry for him and I doubt there are many Shifters who would feel sorry for him. “Lincoln, are there any journals from the Alphas or Lunas from Gold Moon Pack?” King Joseph asks. “No, Your Majesty. None of the Alphas or Lunas kept a journal that we are aware of, but they could have hidden them.” Myka answers and I see the funny look the King gives him. I connected the dots when Alpha Lincoln made the call to King Joseph and called him by his first name. Alpha Lincoln belongs to the Royal bloodline and if I am not mistaken, he is next in line for the throne. “When did you figure it out, Dear?” Grandma asks as she looks from the King to Alpha Lincoln. “I doubt there are many Shifters who have the King’s number in their phone and no Shifter in their right mind would call him by his first name. I also know that the next in line for the throne has been kept away from the public, for protection and everything else that comes with being a Royal.” I answer Grandma. Alpha Lincoln seems a bit confused about the last part of my answer and I believe he thought it had been hidden well enough. However, here I am, telling him that it isn’t that much of a secret. “I had a lot of time on my hands and read everything I could get my hands on. Including a journal that was in Devlin’s library, whoever put it there hid it in plain sight and somehow, Devlin never saw it.” I continue. “Where is that journal, Marley?” Alpha Lincoln asks and I walk out of the living room while telling him that I will be right back. It wasn’t my intention to keep the journal a secret from him, but I had been carrying it around for so long that it slipped my mind. I never wanted Devlin to find it and the best hiding place was with me. “I think that I can find my way to the Gamma floor and back again, Mauro.” I say as he follows me down the stairs and toward my room. “I know you can, but it is better to be safe than sorry.” He responds and I wonder if there might be someone else out there who would come after me, the Belleron bloodline or the Sarraveron bloodline. I grab the bag I always carried with me and open a zipper on the inside to take out the journal. After placing my bag on the floor, I follow Mauro back to the Alpha floor and hand Alpha Lincoln the journal. “Devlin never read it, nor did he know that it was in his library. I don’t think he ever set foot in his library, even though it was kept clean.” I explain. The journal was written by an Omega who once lived at the Palace and there is a mention of a secret line to the throne. According to the journal, the Runestream family was kept from the public eye to protect them from forceful markings and kidnapping. I am not entirely sure how their bloodline works, but Alpha Lincoln will be next in line if something happens to King Joseph before he finds his second chance Mate. “Thank you for keeping this secret safe, Marley. She never should have written it down, but at least now I know that I need to adjust the oath everyone takes when they start working at the Palace.” King Joseph says. After reading the journal, I realized she had found a loophole in the order she was given and that will be corrected as soon as possible.
