Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Marley’s p.o.v. Acadia feels a lot more relaxed on the Gamma floor and I don’t care where I stay as long as I have a bed to sleep in. Growing up with only Dad and Grandma around, I developed a dislike for crowds and I prefer to be by myself, even though I am starting to appreciate the families that run this Pack. It is the noise that comes with it that bothers me the most. “I hope that King Joseph can tell us what happened to Mahina.” Acadia says and my mind goes back to the journals we read. Mahina asked the Omega and the Warrior if the King had ever visited. Still, according to the Omega, Jacan had ensured that he never set foot in the territory without prior notice. I doubt Mahina ever made it back to the Palace; if she did, Gold Moon wouldn't still be around. No King would have allowed the Beta family to survive for killing a Royal and Mahina and her family were Royals by blood. Another night has passed and that means three more days until the Full Moon. Acadia hopes that by being within a new territory, we might find our fated Mate. I am not too sure if I want to find my fated Mate this Full Moon. I have never been on my own, never had a room to myself and could never do something without anyone seeing or noticing. “Marley, are you awake? Breakfast is ready and King Joseph is on his way.” I hear Gamma Laney’s voice through the mind-link. “Out in a minute. Need to shower and get dressed.” I respond as I walk toward the bathroom, and after a hot shower and going through my morning ritual, I put on my black, wide-legged jeans with a bright pink sweater that says, 'Not my circus, Not my monkeys, but I definitely know all the Clowns.' Gamma Laney is the first to see me, and she loses her balance as she starts laughing, while Malek shakes his head. “You do remember that King Joseph is coming for a visit?” Mauro asks after he has read the text. “Yep. I just hope that he has a sense of humor or at least can appreciate that I don’t care what he thinks. Today, I need comfortable and nothing else.” I respond as I follow Gamma Layton and his Mate out the door. Everyone is staring at me as we walk into the dining room on the Alpha floor and I know that Gamma Laney has warned the others about my sweater. “Which of these Clowns are you referring to, Marley?” Meadow asks as she walks out of the room and she has a head start because her Mates are too stunned to respond, so it takes them a few minutes to run after her. We are halfway through breakfast when Meadow and her Mates join us again. Myka is gloating as he tells us that she outran both of them, while Makay looks a little annoyed. “How can I protect my Mate from harm if I can’t keep up with her?” Makay whines. Meadow smiles at her Mate as she grabs his hand and moves a little closer to his side. “She will protect you from harm. I have a feeling that Meadow is capable of defeating almost every man who dares to threaten her or her family.” I respond before taking another bite of my scrambled eggs. Makay doesn’t respond because he knows that I am right. Meadow will go through hell and back for her family, at least for the ones who deserve it. I doubt she would do it for Rhys, after what I heard about him. Gamma Layton is the only one to leave the Alpha floor because he is King Joseph’s welcoming committee. Beta Lennox arrives home from Frozen Star Pack a few minutes before the King arrives and it is clear to see that he is related to Makay and Myka. “Good morning, Lincoln. Why did you need to see me?” King Joseph asks as he walks into the living room. “I doubt you asked me to come down here because you were missing my handsome face.” King Joseph looks around the room at some of the unfamiliar faces and I am the last one he notices. His eyes widen slightly when he sees the text on my shirt, and he turns toward Alpha Lincoln with a raised brow. “Don’t ask. We already had a chase around the Pack-house because of it.” Alpha Lincoln responds as he gestures for King Joseph to take a seat. “Your Majesty, I spent the last day and a half locked in a relatively small structure and didn’t feel like dressing up. It wasn’t meant as an insult to anyone, at least not on my part.” I say and I hear Meadow giggle.I place the locket and baby dress on the coffee table in front of him and I wait patiently as he picks up the locket to open it. “Alpha Koa and Luna Keola and that is their Daughter, Mahina.” He says as he stares at the two pictures. “Did Beta Jacan change the Pack name after their deaths?” I ask him. I believe that I already know the answer, but I need confirmation to be sure. “Yes. He wanted to honor Luna Keola by naming the territory after her, using the nickname that Alpha Koa used for her. He always said that she was his Gold Moon.” King Joseph explains and for some reason, that pisses me off even more. Grandma rubs my lower back to calm me and Acadia down. It works slowly and after a few minutes, I am able to speak again without anger in my voice. “I know that the King at the time didn’t visit the territory after their deaths and that Jacan had a lot to do with it. I believe that Jacan feared that the King would figure out the truth and it would mean the end of Jacan and his family.” I say. I place the four journals on the table as I continue to look at the King, because I will have to inform him of the murders. “Their deaths weren’t accidental; the Beta family murdered them.” I finally say. The roar that King Joseph releases shakes the Pack-house and the low-ranking members who are inside will be forced to their knees by the sheer power of his roar.A roar filled with pain and anger over the loss of his family members' lives.
