Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Malek’s p.o.v. Every Alpha received a call from the Elders in the past two days, but none of them had seen a trace of Devlin. Border patrols were intensified as a result, not only at the Palace but also at Gold Moon and Black Valley. Alpha Lincoln wasn't willing to take a risk where it concerned his guests or his Pack-members and both territories remain under his control for a few more months. We managed to go through each file and gather many names of Shifters who were involved with the attacks. Every name from the list, along with their new identities, has been checked and Elder Chelsea has sent Squads to every Pack where they live. “The Palace dungeons are filling up nicely, according to Elder Josiah.” Alpha Lincoln says before he crosses off another set of names. More than half of the list has been taken to the Palace and now we are waiting for any information the Squads found along the way concerning Devlin. I look at the whiteboards again for the umpteenth time. Most boards haven't been updated, but I pay attention to the ones that did get an update, even if it is just a small one. Barison is acting impatient, trying to make me walk past them faster. “What the hell is wrong with you?” I ask him as he pushes forward even more. “Keep walking, Human. We need to look at the last whiteboard.” He answers me and I decide to give in to my Shifter's impatience. I look at the board for any new information, but Barison has found it first and we release a roar when puzzle pieces are suddenly falling into place. “Myka, call your Dad. He needs to check Grand Valley territory. Devlin knows where the Belleron bloodline started.” I call out. The ballroom falls silent and we all listen as Alpha Lincoln tells Lennox what he needs to do. “Captain Miles, you already know the territory. Take our Elite Warriors with you and deal with Devlin, one way or the other.” Alpha Lincoln says. We drive to Frozen Star territory and ditch the SUVs inside their borders, the rest of the way is done on foot. Lennox joins us with some Warriors of Frozen Star Pack when the borders of Grand Valley Pack come into view. “We haven't seen any movement, but one of the sensors we placed was triggered. Whether it was on the way in or out of the territory is unknown.” Lennox says through the mind-link. It takes us over an hour to encircle the territory and then we slowly move in to search for Devlin. Mauro lets Gossom take control and in seconds, he climbs into trees that are big enough for anyone to climb into and hide from sight. Some Squad members follow his lead throughout the territory, which assures us that he can't sneak up on anyone. “He's at Gold Moon.” Magnus calls through the mind-link and Gossom jumps out of the tree he is in, making a beeline for the border. Barison pushes me to the back to take control and follows his Brother out of the territory. Neither of them runs at top speed, because it wouldn't do us any good. I am focusing on the path ahead of us, warning Barison if anything gets in our way. Most Squad members and Elite Warriors have shifted and follow us back to Gold Moon territory. The rest have gone back to Frozen Star territory to get the SUVs and will drive them straight back to Gold Moon territory. Occasionally, Barison and Gossom hitch a ride on the backs of Blade and Thyrius. We have done this a lot as we grew up and it took us a few years to be able to jump on and off without falling flat on our asses. Barison is pissed at Devlin for eluding us and he wants to make sure that he can get there before anything happens to Marley or one of the others. I have to remind him that we can’t keep going at high speed all the way home and it seems to piss him off even more. There are no updates on the situation in Gold Moon territory, which makes most of us agitated. “Magnus, take half of the Lycans with you. We need to surround the territory and Lycans can keep up their speed better. I will send other teams ahead as we approach the territory. You know where to go.” Captain Miles says through the mind-link. No one argues with the order and over a hundred Lycans sprint away from us toward home. “Meadow, you will lead your team through the main gate. Maryan and I will take two teams to the other borders.” Captain Miles says. We keep running through the forest, avoiding the roads to take advantage of our ability to navigate through the trees and bushes. It saves us a lot of time, as we can run in a relatively straight line without following roads around territories or other obstacles. As we approach the border of a Pack, the Warriors step aside. Captain Miles must have warned them of our dire situation and we run straight through the territory. “Head to the left. Some of our Elite Warriors will follow you.” A Warrior says as we pass him. A group of about thirty Shifters is waiting for us near the border. Half of them are Wolves, a handful of Lycans and a few other Shifters make up the rest of the group. Renegade Warriors can communicate with any Shifter and Captain Miles will inform them of our next steps as we approach Gold Moon territory. No one else responds as he talks through the mind-link. We pass a few other Packs along the way and each Pack sends some of their Elite Warriors with them. Our numbers are slowly growing, which will allow us to cover more of the borders once we return home. Hopefully, we will get there in time. The two other teams split off when we are about ten minutes out. They pick up speed and I feel better when I can link Mom to ask for an update. “Marley is missing. No one has seen Devlin and we've checked the feed of every camera.” Mom responds and Barison makes a beeline for the Pack-house. He’s upset because we missed an entire day heading to Grand Valley Pack and came up empty.Mom holds open the front door, knowing that Barison will not return control until we have found Marley.
