Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate

Chapter 143 Curls Up

Malek’s p.o.v. “Mom, are you serious?” Makay asks, but he already knows the answer. I try to remember who Megan is, but I don’t recall a Megan living in the Pack-house or a Megan working in the Pack-house with our leadership. “She never set foot in the Pack-house again and even asked me to find her another job. You all know her Daughter, though. Her name is Felicity.” Alpha Lincoln says. Oh, yeah. I remember her and her delusions. She was convinced that she was Madden’s fated Mate and even went as far as ordering our Omegas around. Beta Lilith had a conversation with her one day and her attitude changed drastically. I doubt she gave up on the idea of becoming Black Valley’s Luna, but she did become less annoying. “Why didn’t you tell us this story back then?” Myka asks and I see Meadow raising her eyebrows at him. Myka tells her what Felicity tried to do and I know that Meadow will never trust her anywhere near her Mates. Even though she never came after any of us, I might have forgotten a few things about Felicity. “I told Felicity what I did to her Mother when she tried to steal him from me and I wouldn’t hesitate to do the same to her if she ever came near one of you ever again.” Lilith says. “She'd better stay away or I might show her how I feel about that kind of behavior.” Meadow growls, and the look on her face doesn’t bode well for Felicity if she decides to test her. “Milcah doesn’t look too happy either. It wouldn’t surprise me if the two of them teamed up.” Barison says in my head. As an Alpha’s Daughter, Milcah is already a force to be reckoned with and being mated to Magnus has amplified it. Her protectiveness of her Mate will be worse than that of Meadow or our Mate and anyone stupid enough to get too close to Magnus will pay the price. “Can we talk about something else? This topic isn’t good for my mood and I’d like it if I didn’t end up killing someone.” Meadow says and Milcah hands her a file from Sven Cloud Pack. Marley is giggling when Meadow looks at the file in her hand before turning to the woman who handed it to her. “Did you actually believe that this would make my mood any better?” She asks and Milcah shrugs her shoulders. “This might be much worse than thinking about Megan and what she tried to do. I hate women like that. There is no excuse for their behavior and I will never tolerate it.” “Go down to the ballroom. The Elite Warriors of Black Valley have returned home, but will be here at a moment’s notice if you need their assistance.” Alpha Lincoln says. Marley follows us to the ballroom; she knows some of these files and might have some insight into Devlin as a person. The first two files I hand her are already familiar to her, so she passes them on and the third file is new. Every file gets dissected with a fine-tooth comb. The dates of attacks are written on a whiteboard and each date gets checked by Elder Josiah to confirm that it was an attack on the royal family. Each date is followed by the name of the target, the place of attack and whether they were successful or not. In most cases, the plans failed and the targets managed to survive the attack. However, the assailants never managed to escape. Each whiteboard is assigned a colored sticky note to indicate which Alpha was responsible for Seven Cloud Pack at the time of the attack. “Can someone explain why they believe they have a right to the Throne?” Captain Miles asks. Nolan Twostriker found an unconscious woman near their border during night patrol. He recognized her immediately, but didn’t tell anyone at first. In the morning, it became clear that she couldn’t remember anything and no one contacted the Elders to report finding the woman. Five days later, it was a Full Moon and Nolan found out that she was his fated Mate. Like most Shifters, they were marked and mated by the next morning and that is when Nolan informed his family of his Mate’s identity. Livia regained some of her memory during the days leading up to the Full Moon, but it wasn’t until Nolan marked her that she remembered everything that happened to her. When Livia overheard the conversation between her Mate and his family, she immediately informed her family. Within an hour, the entire Kingdom was informed of Livia's decision to decline the Throne. “Livia was the firstborn, but never wanted to take over the Throne. She was nineteen when she signed over the Throne to her baby Brother and after that, she went looking for her fated Mate. By law, she could decline the Throne and after a year of discussing it with her parents and the Elders, she was allowed to sign the documents.” Marley says. “Why did it take a year before she could sign those documents?” Someone in the back asks. “They wanted to make sure that she knew the consequences of signing those documents. She wasn’t just going to sign away her right to the Throne; she was also signing away the rights of her offspring to claim the Throne.” Marley answers. She grabs a journal out of one of the plastic containers and hands it to Captain Miles. “Livia wrote in this journal after she regained all of her memories. Nolan was furious when he heard about what she did and tried to fight it in any way he could, but failed every time. Livia saw what it did to her parents and her family, never being sure if someone was interested in them for who they were or for what they were. They are always busy handling tense situations between Packs, leaving hardly any time for their children. She hated being raised by Omegas instead of her parents and didn’t want to put her children through that.” Marley states. Barison agrees with Livia; if you decide to put children into this world, you are responsible for them and need to raise them yourself with a bit of help from others. I can understand why Livia didn’t want to take on that burden, because I know that I don’t want that responsibility either. “A good thing they failed to kill the King or we would have all been in that position someday.” Barison says as he curls up in the back of my head.
