Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Marley’s p.o.v. Mauro is probably hoping that the gate will hit him on the way out. I don’t know the guy, but Acadia and I don’t want to get to know him at all. “What the hell is your problem, Rhys?” Alpha Lincoln asks and I can feel his aura pushing toward Rhys, forcing him to answer the question. “My problem is with my Brother, Alpha Lincoln.” Rhys answers. He didn’t defy the order, but it's clear that's not the whole story. Alph Lincoln walks toward Rhys and I know he will get the same question again. As an Alpha, it is his job to identify the problem and resolve it before it becomes a huge problem. “Rhys, I am only going to ask you this once. Why are you angry with Manyu? What did he ever do to you?” Alpha Lincoln asks. Rhys tries to defy the order Alpha Lincoln gave him, but he knows there's no way to fight it. He will eventually break down and answer the question, whether he wants to or not. “My Father was proud to have a Lycan Mate and kept telling everyone that this Pack’s next Beta would be a Lycan. He was pissed off when he got the test results back and they revealed that I was going to be a Wolf, just like him. His disappointment grew even bigger when Manyu’s test results revealed that he was a Lycan. My Father made sure that he reminded me of his disappointment every chance he got, but he also didn’t want Manyu to know.” Rhys answers. We discover that they led Manyu into believing both parents were Wolves, but Rhys never thought his baby Brother would have the courage to leave the territory. “Alpha Hank didn’t like Lycans. He would give them the crappy tasks, like night patrol along a part of our eastern border. Most Lycans left the territory after a few months of being treated like dirt.” Rhys clarifies. “Thank the Goddess for a huge Beta floor.” I hear Beta Lilith say. “There is enough room for Manyu and his family. They can stay there until they decide what they want to do.” Rhys isn’t looking too happy with her remark, but there isn’t anything he can do about it. Beta Lilith has every right to move anyone she wants to her floor. I doubt Alpha Lincoln would be able to change her mind. The Beta floor is going to be noisy with so many Shifters living there, but Beta Lilith doesn’t seem to be worried about it. “Does Dad know what he will find when he returns from Frozen Star Pack?” Makay asks and I see Beta Lilith turn around with a smirk on her face. “Damn, woman. You’re still holding a grudge, aren’t you?” Alpha Lincoln asks as we walk up the stairs. “He had no right to move them onto our floor without discussing it with me. I was dealing with a toddler and seven months pregnant with those monsters.” She answers as she points at her Sons. “You know what she tried to do when we met and still tried to do when we were marked and mated for years.” Oh My Goddess. I want to hear this story. No, I need to hear this story. “What are you talking about, Mom?” Myka asks and I am hoping that Beta Lilith will tell us the story. Alpha Lincoln doesn’t look happy and I would guess that whatever happened still has a negative impact on Beta Lilith. “You all know the story of how I met my Mate. Well, most of you, that is.” Beta Lilith says, once we are in the living room on the Alpha floor. “It was during a Full Moon party in Black Valley territory and my former Alpha invited me and a few others along.” We have taken a seat, while Beta Lilith is staring out the window. Her hands are behind her back, with one hand holding her wrist and the other balled into a fist. “I had seen this girl, Megan, hanging around the Alpha and Beta family all night. She was constantly standing next to Lennox, holding on to his arm and trying to get as close to him as she could. I found it strange that he didn’t push her away, given that neither of them was marked. Megan even tried to stop Lennox from walking over to me at midnight, but Lincoln made it clear she had to back off.” Beta Lilith says. Her body language suggests that the impact didn’t stop there and continues to affect her mood to this day. “Megan tried to enter the Beta floor after Lennox and I left the ballroom, but Lincoln caught her and threw her in the dungeons for the night. She tried to get close to Lennox on many different occasions, but failed every single time. He didn’t realize what she was trying to do and most of the time, Lennox or Layton were there to put her back in her place. It took a while before I felt comfortable enough to tell Lennox about it and he immediately told Megan he had no interest in her.” The pain and anger are clear in her voice. By the looks on Myka and Makay’s faces, it is clear that this is the first time they have heard about it. Megan didn’t give up, though. It became less noticeable and she tried to disguise it as a need for help or an interest in his job. One day, Megan went to Lennox to get help with finding another place to stay. Her Brother had found his Mate and she didn’t want to inconvenience them. Beta Lilith explained that there were other places for her to move into, but she made sure to mention her job in the Pack and how she hated walking in the dark. Lennox knew that a room would be opening up in a few weeks and decided to take the easiest way out. “I came back from my doctor’s appointment, already pissed at Lennox for missing it and found Megan in my living room. As you can imagine, that didn’t go too well with me and my hormones. I literally kicked her out the door and down the stairs. I made it very clear to Lennox that he had to choose between his family and her. He was locked out of the Beta floor for almost a week and the only reason we are still together is my Mother in law. She kept Lennox away from me for a few days, instructing him to reflect on everything Megan had done. He apologized to me for not seeing through her and his Mother said she would kick him out if he ever allowed Megan anywhere near him.” Beta Lilith says. Everyone who heard the story for the first time is radiating anger. I am not sure how Makay and Myka will behave around their Father when he gets back.
