Golden Moon: The Beta Twins' Contracted Mate
Milcah’s p.o.v. At first, I didn’t want to leave the Alpha floor because Mom was sleeping. However, Brenna told me that she would stay on the Alpha floor and keep an eye on Mom. Beta Lilith gave me a tour of the Pack-house, but other than the Gamma family, I got no introductions. I listened to every conversation and figured out that their leadership and most other Pack-members didn’t love some of the Pack-members. One person in particular was met with hostility and no one tried to hide their dislike of the former Beta. He kept asking Beta Lilith questions about me and my Mom, but all she told him was that it wasn’t his business. “If their presence is a threat to our Pack, then it is my business.” Had been his response, but Beta Lilith had ignored him. We ended up on a small field where some Pack-members were training and Beta Lilith called them over to introduce me. “I can’t tell you the entire story, not yet anyway. Milcah has only shifted inside and I believe that with your help, Lyrexia will be able to shift more easily. After all, she is a Lycan.” Beta Lilith had informed them. Brooklyn sat down in the middle of the field with me, while the others shifted into their Lycan forms. My shifts had never been easy and I feared that I would never be able to shift quickly or easily. “Before we start, I need you and Lyrexia to listen to me. You both need to relax and allow nature to take its course. Fighting it will make it painful and we need to avoid that at any cost.” Brooklyn said, before she told me to take off my clothes. We both giggled when the male Lycans turned their backs on us, but it also made me feel a bit more comfortable. “Their presence is enough to help Lyrexia. My friends will be a support system for Lyrexia and I will be yours. Just relax and let it happen naturally.” Brooklyn continued. I could feel Lyrexia pushing toward the surface and for a few minutes, we enjoyed the view we shared. I could feel my bones shifting, fur sprouting from everywhere and my senses became much better. “Well done, Lyrexia. Why don’t you follow the others? We need to find out what you are capable of without any training.” Brooklyn said. It was amazing to see the forest through Lyrexia’s eyes, but they didn’t overdo it. We shifted a few more times to see if we would get better and faster with every shift and by the time we were done, I was exhausted. “It is good to see you both out here.” I heard Mom’s voice from behind me and Lyrexia was happy to see Mom while we were still in Lycan form. She ran a few rounds past Mom, before she handed control back to me. I could barely keep my eyes open during dinner, but I am glad that I didn’t skip it or I wouldn’t have known the story that involved the former Beta. He won’t get much sympathy from me or Mom and neither do Rory and Rufus. I know I made my way to my room, but to tell you the truth, that is where it ends. Morning comes too soon and I wake up with a jolt. For a moment, forgetting where I am and that Katreena won’t be stirring trouble. “Good morning, Pumpkin. Did you sleep well?” Mom asks and I look around the room to find her in an armchair near the balcony. “I don’t know, I was sleeping.” I answer her as I get out of bed. It is the same answer I have given her every morning for as long as I can remember. It always puts a smile on her face and it doesn’t fail me today. We go through our morning routine before we head to the dining room and find Beta Lilith in a discussion with Gamma Layton. “You know that Lincoln will accept any Pack-member who wants to leave Frozen Star Pack, Layton.” Beta Lilith says as we walk into the dining room. “There might be fewer Pack-members who want to leave when they find out they are getting a new Alpha.” Gamma Layton responds. “Then Alpha Lincoln better make sure he gets a hold of all the Pack funds that Ferdinand embezzled.” I blurt out as I pour myself and Mom some coffee. “He thinks he kept it hidden from everyone, but my Mom didn’t raise a fool.” Both of them stare at me, while Luna Leona sends a message to her Mate. Mom doesn’t say anything; she knows I can handle this on my own. “Ferdinand has been investing Pack funds for as long as I have been alive. I figured it out when I was about eight years old and he came in one night to have Mom sign some papers.” I say. I explain that Katreena called him out of our suite and Mom returned to her drawings in seconds. “I read the papers as Mom’s back was turned; it didn’t make much sense to me at the age of eight. I had my tablet in my hands, which has a camera, so I took pictures of the papers. It was the only time that Ferdinand left the room while Mom had to sign those papers. It happened every month after that and I kept a log of every date that Mom had to sign papers. Once I was able to understand the papers, I knew what Ferdinand was doing to his Pack.” I tell them. “Last time, I had to sign those papers. I saw that each was worth millions and all of them are in my name.” Mom adds. I walk back to our bedroom to get my tablet, to show Luna Leona the papers I photographed all those years ago. I don’t want Ferdinand to walk away from that territory with all that money, because it should benefit the Pack and the Pack-members. Luna Leona stares at the screen for a moment after I hand it to her and after a few minutes, she tells us it has been sent to Alpha Lincoln and Elder Chelsea. “They will make sure that Ferdinand knows that we are aware of that money. He couldn’t access it, even if he wanted to, because he needs Zaphara’s signature to withdraw those funds.” Luna Leona says. Mom gives Luna Leona a look as if to say over my dead body.
