Reborn as the Baby Sister Everyone Spoiled—and the One He Loved

Chapter 45 Do You Remember?

Jay sat quietly, his mind racing. Who says that's what I want too? A month ago, Jay had discovered that Alora wasn't his real sister, and that someone else was. He had been a bit excited, even hopeful at first. When he first met Elaine, her face—so strikingly similar to Rebecca's—had given him an overwhelming sense of familiarity. He wanted to connect with her, to build a bond with the sister he'd never known. But, of course, it didn't work out that way. All Elaine cared about was Terry. She barely spared him a second glance, let alone saw him as her brother. Before Alora turned five, Jay had been very close to her, showering her with affection. But as time passed, he began to withdraw that attention. When Elaine returned, he had hoped he could focus on her. Yet, she was still fixated on Terry, treating him like a stranger. Jay had his pride. If someone didn't acknowledge him, he wasn't going to chase after them—no matter if that person was family or not. Instead of arguing with Elaine, Jay changed the topic. "I'm waiting for Anna to wake up. I need to ask her something." Elaine studied him with a sharp gaze. Without needing to ask, she already understood what Jay wanted to know. Is he really that desperate for answers? Does he appreciate talent so much? She didn't say anything, just sat down quietly. If he wants to wait, let him. Maybe if Anna speaks to him directly, he will finally let this matter go. After a tense silence of about ten minutes, Anna finally began to stir. Her eyes were wide, confused, and then she suddenly sat up, sobbing uncontrollably."My legs! My legs! My legs!" she cried out. She was a dancer! Without her legs, her career, her future—everything was over. "Anna, calm down! Your legs are fine. They're fine!" Hannah said, her voice frantic as she rushed to hold Anna. Anna stopped for a moment, eyes wide, and asked in disbelief, "Hannah, what did you say?" Hannah repeated, clearly, "Anna, your legs are fine. They're saved." Tears streamed down Anna's face as she shook her head in denial. "Hannah, stop trying to comfort me. When the accident happened, I felt so much pain in my legs ... It's over for me ... It's over." Jay, unable to stand it any longer, pulled back the covers. "Look! This is your leg! Who told you that you lost your legs?" Anna looked down, eyes widening as she saw her leg wrapped in a thick cast. The anesthetic still hadn't worn off, which explained why she hadn't felt it yet. One leg was in a cast, and the other only had surface wounds. Both legs were there. It wasn't like Philip had said, that one of them had been amputated. Overcome with relief and joy, Anna burst into tears and repeatedly thanked Jay. "Thank you, doctor, thank you!" Jay awkwardly cleared his throat. "Actually, it wasn't me who saved your leg. You should be thanking someone else." Anna blinked, surprised. "Who? I want to thank her in person!" When she had first heard that her leg was gone, she had been consumed by despair. But now, the overwhelming joy of knowing her leg had been saved made her desperate to express her gratitude to the doctor who had helped her. Jay's gaze turned serious as he looked at her. "I don't know.""What?" she asked, confused. "But you know!" Jay's voice grew urgent. "Anna, do you have any friends studying medicine?" Anna paused, thinking carefully before shaking her head in confusion. "I don't think so." Jay was frantic. "How can that be? She's your friend! She's about 18 or 19, a girl—tall, slender. Do you remember her?"
