Chapter 44 Getting Rid of Me After Getting What She Wants

Jay leaned back, arms crossed. "If you want my help, you'll need to say something nice. Call me 'Jay,' and maybe I'll consider it." Elaine's face gave nothing away. "What if I don't?" Jay raised an eyebrow. "Then I won't lift a finger." Elaine shrugged. "This mess happened in your hospital. Whether you help or not is your choice." Jay shot her a sharp look. "Sure, it happened here, but it was in your friend's room. You really think she's just going to walk away from this?" Elaine fell silent, clearly unsure how to respond. Jay smirked, noticing her discomfort. He softened his voice a little. "Come on, just call me 'Jay.'" Elaine stood her ground. "Are you really going to withhold help over that?" Jay's eyebrow shot up again. "No 'Jay,' no help." He was curious to see just how stubborn she would be. Elaine pulled out her phone, glancing at him before saying, "Fine. I'll just call Dad and tell him you're not only refusing to help but also bullying me." "No!" Jay shot forward, snatching the phone from her hands. How childish! How could she threaten to tell on me! We're not kids anymore! Elaine gave a nonchalant shrug. "Take it. I'll tell Dad when I get home. Bully me, and you'll see what happens."Jay stared at her in disbelief, clearly thrown off by her calmness. It was his turn to be caught off guard. He glared at her but, in the end, he gave in. He wasn't afraid of Elaine complaining to Leon. They were both his children, after all. Family loyalty ran deep, and no matter how biased Leon might be, he wouldn't go too hard on Jay. Besides, he had planned to help Elaine anyway. He just wanted her to say "Jay" first. Since that failed, well, there was always tomorrow. Jay pulled out his phone and made a call, giving a few quick instructions. Within minutes, hospital staff arrived, swiftly moving Philip and Wilda onto stretchers and cleaning up the room, leaving no trace of the mess behind. Elaine glanced at Jay. "Thanks." She was a woman of her word. Despite their differences, he had helped her, and a thank you was deserved. Jay made a dismissive sound. "Don't get all sentimental." Elaine leaned back in her chair, giving him a pointed look. "Dr. Curran, you can go now." Jay blinked, surprised. Wow! She's getting rid of me after getting what she wants! Her mind changes so fast that I can barely keep up! But Jay decided to let it go. After all, they were siblings. He then turned to look at Anna's bed and frowned. "She's still out? Do you think something went wrong with the surgery?" They still have to carry out the amputation, or Anna's life could still be at risk. At Jay's words, Hannah jumped to her feet, panic filling her face. "Dr. Curran, please check on Anna!" Jay nodded and walked over to the bed, examining Anna carefully. "Hmm, everything looks fine," he said, his tone calming. Elaine, standing behind him, couldn't resist a little jab. "You seem almost disappointed that Anna's okay." Jay spun around, glaring at her. "What nonsense are you talking about now, brat?" As a doctor, there was no way he wanted anything to be wrong with Anna. Of course, he hoped she was fine. But he couldn't help but wonder how that mystery girl managed to pull off such a feat. Elaine sat beside Anna's bed, her voice cool. "Since she's fine, Dr. Curran, you can go now."Jay clenched his jaw, irritated. "You don't want me here?" This is the second time she's practically shoved me out. It's getting a bit much! Elaine glanced up at him, almost bored. "Isn't that what you want?" After all, both he and Alora seem to think I'm just a nuisance. He probably hates that I showed up out of nowhere and took away what belonged to the real Currans' heiress.
