When Love Is the Only Thing Left

Chapter 889 The Chemical Plant

With my brows knitted, I voiced my disagreement, “Jane, let me ask you. If your child caused you a lot of trouble, would you be disdainful of him and reject him?” She shook her head. “Of course not.” With a faint smile, I uttered, “It is not because that you can't bring honor to Holden that he doesn't acknowledge you. “Perhaps all he needed is a simple meal or a hug from you to let go of the grievances.” My words brought a smile onto her face. “Oh, Scarlett.” She then let out a sigh. “I know these are not the reasons for Holden nursing a grievance against me.” Unwilling to talk about it further, she changed the topic, “Right, you haven't told me about what's bothering you. Why are you walking here in the middle of the night? What happened?” I pursed my lips and sighed. “I don't know where to begin.” Hearing that, she sported me an understanding look and didn't insist on asking. Just then, I received a call from Boris. I quickly picked it up and asked, “Boris, did you find something?” It was rather noisy in the background as Boris reported, “I found something fishy about a chemical plant in Staurbon City. The government has ordered a shutdown of the factory by reason of a fault in its operation. Yet, there are still people coming in and out of the factory. There are even guards on guard at the entrance. The security is tight, so we can't enter the factory.” My eyes lit up. “Boris, send me the address. I'll ask for Holden's help. Perhaps he can find a way into the factory.” In no time, I received the address from Boris. After hanging up, I excused myself, “Jane, please excuse me. I can't keep you company. I need to go now.” She smiled gently at me. “Alright. Get going already.” After entering the villa, I headed straight to the second floor and knocked on Holden's bedroom door. The door was not closed; it was pushed open the moment I knocked on it. Since I was too worried about Ashton, I barged in without a second thought. “Holden, I received news from Boris. The Murphys own a chemical plant in Staurbon City, but...” I trailed off upon seeing Holden wearing nothing but a boxer. The latter turned around to look at me, his face darkened. “Ms. Stovall, don't you know you should knock before entering someone else's room?” In my daze, I shook my head and then immediately turned my back at him. “I actually knocked. I'm sorry; I didn't mean to barge in.” After a short pause, I stated, “I received news about Ashton. Could you send someone to check on the chemical plant in Staurbon City?” Holden's voice rang out from behind, “I'll try. But perhaps it'd be better if I go there personally. After all, we don't want to alert them.” Feeling relieved, I nodded firmly at his suggestion. Without sparing another glance at me, he put on his clothes and headed downstairs. As I followed suit, he furrowed his brows and asked, “Why are you following me?” “I'm going with you.” Hearing that, the corner of his lips went down. “You will only cause me trouble. Just stay here. I will bring Ashton back safe and sound.” I shook my head. “I'm going with you. I promise I won't cause any trouble. I'm not that stupid. Trust me!” After all, I would go crazy to sit here and wait while doing nothing. Holden raised his brow at my promise. He then shrugged and said nothing further to stop me. On our way to Staurbon City, I almost puked as the man was driving at breakneck speed. When we finally arrived at the factory in the suburbs, he parked the car some distance away. The place was deserted and secluded, surrounded by shrubs and woods. “It seems like this place is unfrequented,” I commented. Just then, Boris got out of his car and approached Holden's. He furrowed his brows the moment he saw me. “Ms. Stovall, why are you here?” “She has a death wish,” Holden chimed in, rolling his eyes at me. I knew they were worried that I might be a burden to them. Stroking the bridge of my nose, I said meekly, “Well, I'm here to help. Anyway, Boris, you still can't get into the factory?” Boris nodded. “I've been keeping a lookout for some time. The people in the factory would change shift every half an hour. Those two people guarding the entrance just started their shifts a while ago. I suppose they are good at fighting, so it's not an easy feat to sneak in.” Holden glanced at the factory. He thought for a while before saying, “The factory is not fully shut down; part of it is still operating. Perhaps this can be our chance.” With his brows knotted, Boris fell into deep thought. A moment later, he uttered, “I'll send someone to get into the factory.” “No. They will be alerted the moment they see your subordinates.” As Holden spoke, he shifted his gaze to me. Seeing that, my lips twitched, and I had a bad feeling about it. It didn't surprise me when he suggested, “Scarlett, I need you to enter the factory. Tell them that your husband is working overtime and that you're here to bring him some food.” Before I could even say anything, Boris frowned as he objected, “Mr. Taylor, this is too risky.” Holden furrowed his brows, yet he insisted. “This is the only way.” Hence, I quickly reassured Boris, “Don't worry, Boris. I can take care of myself. I will wear an earbud when I go in. If anything happens, you can enter the factory by force. And also, if possible, we should contact the police. They can save us if anything goes wrong.”
