Seraphina Is Back—and She’s Not Alone
Upon witnessing her violent side, it was astonishing that instead of distancing himself from her, Jason chose to mentor her instead. Seeming to notice her confusion, he explained, "To truly understand someone, you must look with your heart. Sometimes, our eyes can deceive us. Evelyn may appear carefree but has a sharp mind and rarely allows herself to form close friendships. The fact that she opens up to you means you're not a bad person. "She has an aversion to studying and a tendency to be drawn to dark elements. I hope you can help her change these habits. The Drakon Family doesn't rely on academic prodigies to maintain our reputation. She could live comfortably without excelling, but wealth can disappear in the blink of an eye. "If the Drakon Family were to fall and our wealth vanishes, imagine how difficult her life would become, especially with her current mindset. Wealth and power are fleeting, but the knowledge in one's mind is something no one can take away. "I hope that she becomes self-sufficient and able to protect herself no matter what challenges lie ahead. That's why I've asked for your help." His words took Seraphina aback. She hadn't expected this to be his reasoning. She couldn't deny he was right. The world could change in an instant, and no one knew what the future held. Preparation was the wisest course, and knowledge truly was wealth. "If you agree, then name your price," Jason said generously. "I'll take the job. As for the payment, it's not necessary." As long as Evelyn didn't betray her trust and remained her friend, Seraphina would never accept payment. However, if Evelyn were to turn her back on her, Seraphina would make sure to collect the fee. Jason handed her a black magnetic card. "This is the access card to Heartlake Island. You're welcome to come anytime." Seraphina was momentarily surprised, but she took the card. A glint of something sharper flickered in Jason's eyes as he extended his hand. Seeing it, Seraphina extended hers. Their hands met—one large, one small. The contrast between pale and tanned skin was striking. Jason felt the soft, smooth touch in his hand as if ants were nibbling at his skin, sending a tingling sensation from his arm to his chest. "Pleasant cooperation," Jason said. "Pleasant cooperation," Seraphina echoed, withdrawing her hand. Jason glanced at his empty palm, a fleeting sense of loss and reluctance flashing through his eyes. Seraphina's phone rang, and she picked it up. Seeing Oberon's name on the screen, she stood up and walked to the window to answer. The moment she did, Oberon's furious voice blasted through the phone, loud enough for Jason, who sat nearby, to hear."Seraphina, did you beat up Jacob's son, Bryan? Is that true?" "Yes," Seraphina replied, her tone calm. Hearing her confirmation, Oberon's blood pressure spiked. "Can you stop causing trouble? How could you beat someone like that? No matter where you are, come back immediately!" "Yes," Seraphina responded again, unbothered by his anger. After hanging up, she returned to Jason. "Do you need my help?" Jason asked, already sensing the situation. "No need. I can handle it." How could I ever take down the Whitewood Group if I can't manage such small matters? "If you do need anything, you can contact me. This is my number." Jason handed her a gold-embossed black business card.
