Seraphina Is Back—and She’s Not Alone

Chapter 109 Is He Out of His Mind?

The car meandered along the winding road, finally passing through the heavily guarded entrance to Heartlake Island. True to its name, the island sat nestled in the center of a vast, serene lake. Both the island and the surrounding waters were private property belonging entirely to the Drakon Family. On the island's outskirts, Pyrin's famed photography and filming base attracted countless visitors. At the heart of the island lay the Drakon Family's core estate, an area strictly off-limits to the public. As the Whitewoods' eldest daughter, Seraphina had been invited to a Drakon Family banquet in her previous life. Unfortunately, Linara had torn her gown, leaving her unable to attend. From that moment on, she never again had the opportunity to witness the most renowned and luxurious estate in all of Pyrin. Now, in both her past life and present one, this marked her very first visit to Heartlake Island. As the car advanced deeper into the estate, the temperature seemed to dip noticeably. Verdant trees provided a natural canopy overhead, their leaves rustling softly in the breeze. The dense forest, covering nearly seventy percent of the island, exuded a cool freshness. The air smelled not of exhaust fumes but of damp earth and the faint fragrance of wildflowers. When the car came to a stop, the two stepped out and began walking along a shaded stone pathway. Evelyn turned to look at Seraphina. "What do you think?" "The environment is incredible," she said. Evelyn continued, "It is, isn't it? But just wait until summer rolls around. The mosquitoes here are merciless. If you like it, you should come stay with me. Don't worry about my uncle; he won't say a word." That big oaf would probably want an excuse to hover around you, Evelyn thought. Seraphina smiled but said nothing. Stay here? Perhaps there won't even be such an opportunity. Who knows if we'll even remain friends in the future? The Drakon Family was one of the most powerful in Pearlpoint. Families like theirs could crush someone like her with a flick of their fingers. Just then, a servant hurried over. "Miss Evelyn, Mr. Drakon has returned." The two women turned back toward the main residence. In the living room, Jason sat at ease on a couch, a glossy magazine open in his hands. At the sound of footsteps, he lowered it, his sharp gaze immediately landing on Seraphina. "Evelyn, go help Oliver with the flower garden in the backyard," Jason said. It was a blatant attempt to dismiss her, and Evelyn knew it. She wasn't about to let him have his way. "I don't know the first thing about flowers. Let someone else handle it." She would stay here and keep an eye on him. If, by any chance, her uncle became infatuated and harbored improper intentions toward Seraphina, she could step in to help. Leaving Seraphina alone with that scoundrel was simply too dangerous. Jason stared at her coldly. "Are you sure you're staying here?" Evelyn faltered, her bravado slipping. "I... I'll go," she mumbled reluctantly. Once Evelyn was gone, the room fell silent. Jason gestured toward the couch opposite him. "Please, have a seat." Seraphina moved to the indicated spot without hesitation, and her posture relaxed yet unyielding. Jason poured tea for both of them. "Miss Whitewood, I invited you here today to discuss something." He went straight to the point. "Call me Seraphina," she interrupted. She despised being addressed as "Miss Whitewood." Jason changed his form of address smoothly. "Seraphina, you're close to Evelyn, aren't you? What's your opinion of her?" Seraphina's reply was brisk. "She's great." Then, without waiting for him to elaborate, she continued, "If this is about keeping my distance from her, don't worry. Starting today, I'll make sure to stay out of her way. I won't lead her astray. Frankly, you didn't need to call me here in person for this. A simple phone call would have sufficed." Jason blinked, caught off guard. For a moment, his usually stern face softened into an almost amused smile. "You've misunderstood. I'm not asking you to stay away from Evelyn. Quite the opposite, actually. I'm hoping you'll guide her more." "Huh?" Seraphina's expression twisted in disbelief. Was he out of his mind?
