When the Galaxy Wept
A slim, tall woman with blond hair tucked under a white cap and wearing a white lab coat walked in. Her blue eyes and round forehead made her stand out from other girls. She walked to Emerald and crouched in front of her. “Hi, I’m Rosalind, senior doctor of the Alliance. We found you when our aircraft flew from Planet Freedom to Planet Dream. Do you feel uncomfortable?” Emerald shook her head. “I need to contact my superior officer.” Rosalind was surprised, “You’re a soldier? You are not wearing a uniform.” “I’m on vacation.” Emerald stood up. “How is the situation on the battlefield?” Rosalind shook her head, “I don’t know. The enemy must have cut off the communication. We can’t contact others.” They were about to step into the cockpit when they suddenly heard a shrill scream from behind. Rosalind rushed to the patient who was seriously injured. Emerald followed her, holding her hand to her waist. “Ahhhh,” they heard two screaming voices. Emerald looked around and saw a middle-aged man who was wearing glasses and a boy in sportswear screaming in agony. Their bodies were trembling on the ground as if being in an electric shock. Rosalind tried to approach the boy and forced him to turn around when he groaned and opened his mouth to bite her. The two marines stood up in surprise, but Emerald was faster to move and took out her gun to hit him heavily on the back of his head. The boy let go of Rosalind from the pain. “Catch them!” Emerald ordered the marines. The two jumped and pressed the two patients to the ground with their bodies. “Be careful not to get bitten!” Emerald instructed. She looked around and noticed that everyone was looking at her. Some of them started to get infected by Zergs.Emerald immediately ordered Rosalind. “Drag them to the back cabin and inject them with tranquilizers. After we land, they can be saved.” Rosalind looked at her in hesitation and nodded. The four put on gloves and dragged the patients to the back cabin, and locked the door behind them. Rosalind looked at Emerald, “The tranquilizers will be useless.” The Marines were looking at her. “I know.” Emerald looked at the two tied-up patients and said with pity and determination, “throw them into the decompression chamber.” Rosalind’s face changed colors. “No way! This is murder!” After a short silence, Emerald said. “The Zergs already infect them. No one can save them. Everyone else in this cabin will be infected if we let them stay.” “Who gives you the right?” The man on the floor protested on and off, “I’m a senator at Dream City.” “We should ask the Captain,” Rosalind said in a hurry as she picked up the phone on the wall. After a while, a young man with silver hair and grey eyes walked into the back cabin, wearing the Alliance air force uniform. Emerald knew that most of the Caucasians lived in Dream and Peace City, and they seemed to really be from there. “Doctor, is there really nothing we can do for them?” The young Captain asked with a gruff voice. Rosalind was biting on her inner lip. The Captain looked at Emerald. “I agree with what she said. Ladies, please go to the front cabin and leave them to the men.” Emerald and Rosalind went back to the main cabin. Looking at Rosalind’s sad face, she said, “Rosalind, you know we have no other choice.” Rosalind sighed, “I know. I just hope that as a doctor, I...” After a while, the Captain and the marines opened the door and walked back to their places. The docent other people stared at them. Emerald touched Rosalind’s arm, and Rosalind understood what she meant. She looked around the room and said in a loud voice. “They’re resting from the tranquilizer. If anyone feels uncomfortable, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me right away.” Emerald went to the cockpit. The co-pilot, who also had blonde hair and green eyes like Rosalind, was sitting on his seat. Feeling no need to cover her identity, Emerald told them her column number and code, showing her ID card. The two pilots both saluted her. The pilot was Shockley, a Second Lieutenant, and the co-pilot was Paul, a Warrant Officer. Skillfully, Emerald turned the communication facilities to the channels usually used by the mercenary, but it was hushed no matter how she called. “Lieutenant,” Shockley said, “They Zerg must have disturbed their communication channel, and the mercenary might have changed to other channels.” Emerald felt devastated. She knew it was necessary to change the communication channel, but she couldn’t believe that she suddenly had no information about Patrick. She had been with him just this morning, and now she was completely cut off from all communication to him. This sudden change made her feel upset. She didn’t know what was going on on the battlefield. Was this just a raid, or had the Zerg attacked all the planets? Patrick would lead the soldiers to hit back and would be extremely busy. Would he notice that she was missing? If he couldn’t find her, would he be anxious like she was? Would he want to see her at this moment? She could do nothing but change back to the Alliance communication channel. Then, surprisingly, someone answered her after a short noise. “This is Lieutenant Jeff Baker from the Phoenix at the Alliance, report your identity and location,” a familiar voice said. Emerald was pleasantly surprised. Everyone was happy and relieved that they finally would receive help. “Lieutenant, you are our lucky star.” Paul said to Emerald, “We tried for two hours, and no one answered us.” Emerald was about to answer Jeff Baker. She picked up the phone but then put it down. Something was wrong. Why would the Alliance give up their channel but then use it again when the mercenaries were forced to change their channel? This wasn’t safe, it wasn’t the style of an army. Why would they do this? “Lieutenant, why don’t you answer him?” Paul picked up the phone when he saw that Emerald was hesitating, “Sir, this is No.17 Civil Aircraft of Dream Planet of the Alliance, and the flight certification is…” He said his verification code and then asked. “Sir, how is the battlefield? We ask for a landing. Please provide landing guidance for us.”
