When the Galaxy Wept
Patrick only glanced at him after his deceiving, friendly words. “Fortunately, you didn’t agree to the truce.” Patrick looked at Taron, “otherwise, it would have been of no use for me to come here.” Taron looked at Patrick. His original expression of dissatisfaction changed. Patrick continued. “For the Zergs, a truce is just a delay in the war. If the infection on these two planets gets out of control, they can easily occupy them. In that case, they don’t need to negotiate. Only an idiot would agree to a truce.” Those cruel words made everyone feel uncomfortable. “General, when can you join us to fight back and regain control over Dream Planet and Peace Planet?” Wade asked. Patrick glanced at Wade, whom he considered a loser, and said calmly. “Mr. Sterling, I didn’t prepare to fight back. The Alliance has only half their soldiers, and even my soldiers would suffer a great loss fighting with the Zerg. And even if we take back those two planets, the infection cannot be eliminated. I won’t let my men die in vain.” “Then what should we do?” Lucas asked. Patrick answered. “First, we send the spy aircraft to identify their force distribution.” Taron agreed, and they decided to meet every four hours to build a strategic plan to proceed from here. The agreement between the Alliance and the mercenary was accomplished. The Zerg and the Alliance both continued to “negotiate” while creating their own plans. Patrick received a letter from the Zerg stating that they wished the mercenary to keep neutral and the Zerg would give a planet as a present. Bruce pretended to be willing to negotiate and asked the Zerg to increase their payment. The night passed quickly. This was the most miserable 12 hours for the humans of the Alliance. Except for the small portion of officers in the military or government workers whom Patrick had sent to the radiation zone for disinfection. Regular citizens had to find other solutions then struggle and try to escape on the ground. The only people that were to be left on the ground were those not fit for military or security training in preparation for the upcoming war. **** That morning, Patrick, who hadn’t slept at all, walked from the war center where they were creating their attack plan to a Cheetah. He hadn’t rested once, not even entered his room. He stepped on the Cheetah that had been waiting for him for a long time and flew to the space fortress outside the Freedom Planet. Under the Cheetah’s cabinet were pilots and soldiers who sustained injuries during their first round of attack with the Zergs. Harvey led Patrick to the front and said, “Commander...we still couldn’t find her…”Patrick, who had been grim the whole time, looked through the wounded. The latter were all surprised and excited to see their Commander. After seeing the wounded, the two stood in the aisle. Harvey looked at Patrick and said, “There was great chaos at the time, Commander, she might…” Patrick looked at the sky outside the cabin, where the planets shone like a jewel. Patrick felt that something inside him was going out of his control. Upon first hearing that she was missing, he felt a shock inside his heart. The first thought that occurred to him was irrational, rejecting the fact. How could she be missing? How could she? Although he had used her body only for sex, she had been his woman. He remembered her blushed face and shining eyes from this morning when she left and the feeling of delight inside him when seeing her happy. How could his woman be missing just like this?At night, his feeling of despair grew even stronger. Where could she be? In the upcoming war, the Zergs obviously intended to destroy all humans, given that they had prepared for this for more than a year. Naturally, he would devote himself to this war to fight back the Zerg to win, but he couldn’t help thinking about her when he was concentrating on their combat plan with the captains. Every time he saw a military uniform from the Alliance, he would think about her; looking at the empty seat in his particular car, he would think about her; when in the Cheetah trying to take a nap, he remembered her soft body and her slightly melancholic smile. He may not have been thinking about her at all times, but she was rooted deeply in his mind. Her beautiful body had occupied an unknown corner in his heart and kept reminding him of her. The feeling was painful. He remembered that Emerald seemed to lead a scrupulous life since the first time they had met. Even beside him, she looked insecure. She was vulnerable, and he had been neglecting it all this time. But now, where was she? He never believed that she would die and burn into ashes like other people in the war. Upon this thought, Patrick looked at Harvey. His seemingly calm voice was filled with visible anger, “Keep looking for her. She is good at escaping. I don’t believe she is dead.” When she opened her eyes, Emerald saw a white roof and smelled staleness in the air. She knew she was in an aircraft. She moved her hand to touch her waist, feeling for her gun, which was under her coat. She sat up in surprise. She was in a flight cabin with approximately 50 square meters of white walls, black floors, and small doors in the front and back. Based on the size and shape and the five-star signal on the door, she figured that this was a medium-sized passenger aircraft of the Alliance. She remembered being hit by a Zerg aircraft while flying the Cheetah through the outer space layer. The pilots had been blown into pieces, while Emerald and the military policemen, who had been wearing space suits, had fallen into a coma from the blast. Who had saved her? People were scattered all over the floor. Two of them were marines, with gauze wrapped around their heads and chests. The rest were civilians, two of them breathing heavily, laying with their faces down, and three others didn’t seem to be doing very well, sweating and groaning from pain. The others just sat there, looking puzzled and scared.
