When the Galaxy Wept
She would rather kill the wrong person than let the right one get away. Although it seemed impossible, that brave woman must be Emerald Wilson. She had almost let her most crucial bargaining tool slip right out of her hands. She looked at Zach and said calmly. “Have a rest. I’m going to the commanding station.” Zach didn’t answer. She walked to the gate with a cold face when Zach suddenly spoke. “Veronica, love is nothing compared to my loyalty.” Veronica’s head was spinning, she couldn’t respond. The moment she left the quiet cabin, the combat leader followed her. Her tone was icy after what Zach had said. “Send the guardsmen and capture the humans in those two Cheetahs at any cost.” The stone circle was expanding for hundreds of kilometers into space. It was both brave and risky for Patrick to drag the enemy there. They could avoid frontal attacks and use the guerilla war strategy to fight the enemy, but at the same time, there were more chances to fall into the enemy’s trap. After the humans regained control over the two planets and the Zerg were defeated, the Dragon didn’t get any information from the Alliance or that they would send troops to help them, making the soldiers feel betrayed after fighting and risking their lives for the Alliance for many hours. After communicating with Emerald, Patrick looked up at the galaxy nephrogram. The technical reporter beside him reported that the Zerg army had retreated from the Alliance and headed toward the stone belt. “Commander, the enemy is going to circle us. Please make an order.” “Instruct all the troops to retreat one by one and leap to the emergent coordinates.” Then, Patrick said in a solemn voice, “Malcolm Gerald will stay at the new coordinates to pick them up. The Dragon will bring up the rear.”“Commander!” The vice chief was surprised, and he said, “I’ll bring up the rear, and you should retreat with the other troops first.” “I’ll stay. This is an order.” Patrick didn’t even frown. “All the warships should leap and retreat in the order of their code number.” Covered by strong firepower from the space fortresses, all Cheetahs and Snowbirds on the first leaped, badly damaged space fortress went back to the deck, and the fort leaped following their order. The Zergs noticed the humans retreating and started to attack the other space fortresses even harder, making it more difficult for the fighters to return to the fortresses to leap. After the second fortress jumped, the space above the stone circle suddenly became clouded from the Zerg army that was arriving after retreating from the Alliance. Patrick immediately made a new order. “All the space fortresses leap within less than a minute. Leap right now. Fighters that are left out are to come back to the Dragon!” The communication officer reluctantly passed the order to every warship, knowing that this order significantly increased the burden of the Dragon. Many nuclear bombs flew silently into space, hitting the enormous body of the space fortress all at the same time as if answering to Patrick’s order. The Dragon was trembling in space like a ship about to be overturned. Suddenly, sparks of electricity and fire flashed into the Commanding Center. Everyone fell to the ground, many got injured. The vice chief staggered to his feet and immediately ordered the ground staff to perform emergency repairs on the severely damaged ship. Patrick stood up, holding onto the console desk. Angry, he looked up at the radar to see how fast the other space fortresses were retreating before he shouted. “Hold on for ten more minutes!”The communication officer, who was standing behind the facility, dropped the earphone with a frightened face. He hesitated for a while, looking up to Patrick. “Commander...” He carefully chose his words, “We have received a communication request from the Zerg. They said they have your woman.” Patrick looked at him coldly, then shouted angrily, “Captain Will! Where is the Cheetah you sent to pick up Mrs. Lewis?” The communication officer, who had been receiving the data from Emerald, climbed down from the tilted facility, needing help to get down as his head was covered with blood. He stumbled to the console desk in a hurry and quickly checked the records of the Cheetahs boarding on deck. Then, raising his head in surprise, he said with difficulty. “Commander, the Cheetah didn’t come back.” The rest of the space fortresses had already retreated. Only the Dragon and ten medium-sized warships, which were forming an umbrella shape of defense, were left behind. The Zerg army surrounded them from one side of the stone circle. “Commander!” The vice chief looked solemn, “Our FTL engine was hit by nuclear damage. With determination, Patrick responded. “Let the other warships leap now!” “Commander!” All the officers in the Commanding Center shouted in surprise. “You should go to other warships first!” The vice chief said firmly, “I’ll direct the Dragon to cover the ships.” Patrick was silent, and the communication officer reported that the Zerg had stopped the attack and then added. “Commander, the Queen of the Zerg, wants to talk to you.” Patrick raised his hand and pressed the “on” button. After a short silence, the voice of the Queen echoed through the center. “Patrick Lewis, I don’t want to kill you or let more Zergs die.” She said with a low voice, exhibiting remarkable civil power. “The Alliance didn’t send troops to help you.” She said, “You have been abandoned. Surrender now. If you promise not to interfere in the war between the Zerg and the Alliance and accept my leadership after the war, you can rule Planet Freedom independently. I will only say this once.” The screen in front of Patrick suddenly showed a magnified image, which was the aerial photo the Zerg were sending to them. “If you don’t agree to my terms, I will kill your woman first and then destroy your fortresses.” The Queen continued. “The mercenary without Patrick Lewis will be like a pile of sand and soon be killed by me.” Patrick looked at the image, his heart about to explode.
