When the Galaxy Wept
Zach turned to the Queen, shouting. “Enough! Veronica!” The Queen looked at him with her eyebrows raised and her dark eyes mixed with complicated emotions. The Empire Zergs stopped. The pain lessened, and Emerald was able to inhale some air carefully. Shouting seemed to exhaust Zach’s anger and strength. His lips were still trembling, but his voice calmed down. “Enough, Veronica.” He took out the gun and aimed at his temple, “let them go off this planet, and I will come back with you - otherwise, I’ll kill myself in front of you.” The Queen, whom Zack was calling Veronica, stood up at once and walked closer to him. “You threaten me with taking your life rather than fighting me? I will take you by your word.”She turned to the guards. “Let them go,” then turned back to Zack. “But you! You will become my husband the day I win the war.” She said in a determined voice. In less than five minutes, all Empire Zergs had disappeared, along with Zach, whose face was pale like ash. The soldiers from outside rushed in uninjured to help Emerald, Douglas, and Foxy get on the Cheetah. Emerald felt sick from the pain in her body but more for Zach. She couldn’t imagine what Zach would have to suffer afterward, but they had no other choice. Emerald picked up a piece of paper from the ground, which was a flight permit left by one of the guards on the Queen’s order. With this, they could get off the planet safely, but Zack was paying with his freedom for their release. Two cheetahs flew unsteadily from the Zerg’s frozen ground, gradually leaving the cold planet in their remote distance. Their lack of fuel prevented them from long-distance leaping, and they weren’t clear of what the situation was out in space. They flew straight up to leave the atmosphere. To avoid confrontation with the Zergs, they had grabbed the Empire flag from the roof and tied it onto the Cheetah’s belly, hoping that no Zerg would attack them. They found the area around the planet unexpectedly quiet, passing only two medium-sized warships of the Zerg. After showing their flight permit, they were free to go. Finally nearing the remote Stone Belt, they saw blazing flames of fire bursting in the sky. “Dragon, Dragon, this is Dark Lightning,” Douglas repeated excitedly through the communicator. His voice was trembling. After the short silence, a baffling voice came out from the channel, “Dark Lightning, this is Dragon. Nice to hear your voice. Please report your location and the personal information with you.” Douglas seemed to remember something and gave the communicator to Emerald. Emerald picked up the cold communicator, her eyes were wet. “Dragon, we are driving two Cheetahs at the B25Z43 in the galaxy outside the Zerg’s First Planet. We have Major Douglas, Lieutenant Foxy, Lieutenant Wilson, and 11 civilians. Other thousands of civilians are on the ground stuck in a laborer’s camp waiting for soldiers to rescue them.” After a while, the voice that Emerald was most familiar with echoed at the other side. “Good job.” The astonished voice said slowly but strongly. “Come back now, and we’ll handle the rest.” Everyone in the Cheetah cheered, and the military officers on the other side of the channel started to cheer with them. Emerald was in tears, still holding the communicator in her hand. The man on the other team kept quiet for several seconds - he seemed to be hearing her low cry and felt her burning tears. All the pain, hesitation, torture, and fear she had endured in these two days seemed to be rewarded by his voiceless gentleness and understanding at this moment. Several seconds later, his voice echoed back. “The technical officer will lead you back. We are expecting to meet you.” Emerald transmitted their data to the technical officer and finally knew that the battlefield between the mercenary and the Zerg had moved to the stone belt. It was tangled up there. The technical officer announced that they couldn’t send any other troops to help them and suggested that they approach the space fortress from the corner where the Zerg force was weak, and he could send two Cheetahs to pick them up from there. Emerald and her comrades followed the advice and flew the Cheetah to the stone belt. When they flew to the space fortress with confidence, alongside them, the Queen’s fighter also flew up to the sky. Zach was sitting on the sofa silently while the Queen was standing in front of the radar control panel, reading the reports of every battlefield. After making several brief but powerful orders, the Queen turned around to look at Zach, noticing that he was still in the same pose, refusing her silently even after agreeing to come back to Empire City and be her husband. This man, like the tangled war, was giving her a headache. Just now, the communication officer reported that the humans had taken back their control on the two planets they had lost before, and the Zergs had lost the war. Patrick had been dragging out the war. Even though his army had been destroyed, half of the Zerg army was also destroyed, and they probably wouldn’t be able to win if they made another massive attack on the Alliance. They could surround Patrick Lewis in a short time, and he couldn’t run away without the Alliance’s help. But she was thinking quietly about what other methods she had to defeat Patrick Lewis at the least cost. That man was exceeding the Queen’s expectation. The mercenaries, including the subordinate forces of Patrick, had finished many tasks the Zergs had given them. At the beginning of the war, they had seriously engaged in bargaining with her. She never expected that Patrick would be brave enough to send all his troops to help the Alliance repel against the Zerg army. “The war is chaos. Is your certification enough to ensure that Emerald can leave safely? “Zach suddenly asked. “I never break my promise.” She promised Zack. Then she went back to read the map of her troops. She suddenly stopped - thinking - Wait a minute..... Emerald? Was the Em that Zach always talked about Emerald? She couldn’t help but laugh and suddenly thought of the information she had collected about Patrick. From the report, she had gathered that there was a woman the cruel mercenary boss cared about. Could Emerald be that woman?
