When the Galaxy Wept

Chapter 107 The Suicide Crash

It was an open space between two giant stones that were as tall as high walls. Ten Zerg warships surrounded four Cheetahs with a silver cross on their body. The Zerg warships were ten times as big as the Cheetah. On the belly of the Zerg warships, the Queen’s eyes were printed clearly to show that they were the guardsmen of the Queen and the best, fewest elites of the Zerg. The damaged rings of the Cheetahs and the smoke rising from their bodies indicated that they had fought a fierce battle with the Zerg. The guardsmen obviously wanted to capture them alive and hadn’t shot them down. But the Cheetahs weren’t fighting back anymore because their weapon system had been destroyed, or their ammunition was out. “Mrs. Lewis!” Harvey, who was standing behind Patrick, suddenly shouted and looked up to Patrick.Patrick’s body was tense and stiff, and his arms were pressed against the console desk. His fingers were holding the alloy rim of the desk tightly as if he wanted to tear the counter apart with his bare hands. He lowered his head, causing his short black hair to fall back, almost covering his black eyes. However, he responded with a cold, determined voice after a few seconds. “No. We will never surrender.” Everyone in the commanding center was silent. A female officer covered her mouth with her hand, tears rolling over her face. Patrick looked at that still image on the screen. The Zergs had turned off the communication channel, meaning that the Zerg Queen had decided to kill all of them. The officers all lowered their heads and did their work at hand silently. The vice chief kept ordering the ground staff to repair the FTL engine, and the air force captain ordered the Cheetahs and Snowbirds to launch another round of attack. Patrick stood there like a statue and kept giving orders when people came to ask him. Patrick felt a sharp pain in his chest. Though he had always been cruel, decisive, and never surrendered to anyone, the pain was like cold but penetrating water flowing over his body, numbing him from the inside out. He never thought that he could hurt a woman this much. In the beginning, he had taken her virginity without her permission just to lock up his own lost memory and secrets. He knew she didn’t want many things. She just wanted to find her hometown and had no desire for power or money. While he was keeping her as a pet, she fell in love with him. He knew from the way she looked at him, a look that could soften any man’s heart. But she was not just any woman, and she was fearless, different from everyone else. And too proud to tell him about her feelings. But he kept putting her in dangerous conditions and sending her in death’s mouth repeatedly! First, he couldn’t let her step down in front of all his soldiers from the air attack they had prepared for many days, and all he could do was ask her to stay alive. And now, after she survived against all the odds with her immense willpower, she was finally coming back to him, and he was leaving her in that deadly situation again for the sacrifice of thousands of mercenaries and the overall deployment of the army. At this moment, the communication officer, who had located the Cheetahs of Emerald and her crew, reported sobbing, “Commander, we have lost the first Cheetah. The Zergs do not capture them, but instead, Major Douglas ordered the soldiers to crash into the stone belt.” Patrick felt all his blood in his veins stiffen, and he didn’t know what to say. “The second one.” The communication officer counted in a sullen voice, “The third one.”“Commander! Let me save Mrs. Lewis! I’ll go!” Harvey shouted angrily and started running outside, but it was too late as the communication officer took off the earphone and reported with no expression. “The fourth one. All four Cheetahs crushed into the stone belt in suicide.” Harvey stopped on the spot, and Patrick just stood still, with his face as dark as black space. He had finally lost her most decisively and unforgettably. Though it was only the detection results of the radar, Patrick kept thinking about the violent scene when the Cheetahs crashed into the stone belt. He thought about how much pain she must have been feeling over the few seconds before she died. He couldn’t bear to imagine how her soft body was becoming lifeless and cold. But he couldn’t indulge himself in thinking about her right now. “A nuclear bomb is coming!” The technical officer suddenly shouted. Everyone seemed to return to their present situation after recovering from the shock of witnessing the suicide of their comrades. They all looked at Patrick, waiting for his order. Patrick forced himself to calm down, suppressing the pain which flooded his heart. “Turn the port side for 35 degrees and launch the interceptor missile!” He said briefly. Not only he but everyone else knew that it all depended on their destiny rather than the strategy of how much damage the fortress could bear from yet another nuclear attack. According to the radar, tens of nuclear bombs rapidly approached the space fortress. At that moment, it suddenly occurred to him that he had never been afraid of death, and dying in the same space with the woman he loved would be a good ending for his wild, free life. Five minutes before the suicide of the Cheetahs and just after hearing Patrick say “we will never surrender” in the communication channel, Emerald and the rest of the soldiers didn’t resent Patrick or felt scared, but instead decided to do the unthinkable after they were surrounded by the Zerg elites, unable to fight back. They knew their destiny. When the guardsmen’s warships approached them, Douglas grunted coldly, who was severely injured. “I’d rather die than become their prisoner.” Then he said calmly into the communication channel. “Mrs., I’m sorry I didn’t recognize you. The Commander will be proud of you.” Foxy, who was in the same Cheetah with Douglas, said in a hoarse voice, “Kitten, I’ll skip the nonsense. I just hope that we can still be partners in the next life.”
