God-Tier Like System
After sitting back down in his seat, Christopher could clearly feel the difference in the way people were looking at him now, especially Quinn. It seemed as though she was dying to gobble him up. Whether intentionally or not, she even leaned over and exposed her alluring cleavage in front of him. Her appearance and figure were decent; she was not too stunning, but she was definitely not ugly. Nonetheless, after meeting goddess-like people such as Luna, Samantha, Scarlett, and Maya, he was no longer interested in most ordinary women. “That was the president of Deep Ocean Group, Wesley Reynolds, wasn’t it?” Christopher heard one of his schoolmates in glasses, who also seemed to know Wesley, ask. I think he said he was a journalist for a finance magazine, Christopher thought. “Our newspaper office once published an article from an exclusive interview we had with him. Christopher, I never thought you would be acquainted with such an influential figure.” Some people might not have known who Wesley Reynolds was, but the moment Deep Ocean Group was mentioned, they all understood. Even though it wasn’t the leading enterprise in Brentwood City, Deep Ocean Group was still widely known. They couldn’t believe that Christopher actually knew Wesley, and that Wesley addressed him with such respect. Suddenly, everyone was seeing Christopher in a different light. In an instant, the focus of the conversation gravitated from Leonard to Christopher. “Christopher, are you really purely a cook?” someone couldn’t help but ask. “What else could I be?” Christopher chuckled. “I’m also just a mediocre line cook.” “Then you must work for some famous hotel!” someone exclaimed. “For example, the Caesars Palace?” “No.” Christopher spoke evenly. “I only work at a small restaurant called The Serenade!” In all fairness, The Serenade was getting to the upper reaches of Brentwood City, but it was still nothing compared to Luke’s Caesars Palace. “Um…” They were rather surprised by Christopher’s answer. He was a cook—a line cook at that—and he wasn’t working at a big hotel like Caesars Palace. How did he get to know Wesley, then? Plus, they witnessed Wesley’s attitude toward Christopher earlier. Thus, they couldn’t believe that those people from two separate worlds could have crossed paths with each other.“Okay, that’s enough!” Leonard started to feel uneasy when they shifted the focus of conversation that was originally on him to Christopher. “Everyone, stop guessing Christopher’s status. He said that he is a mediocre line cook working at a mediocre restaurant. Could it be false? More importantly, aren’t we all here for the alumni reunion today? What are we talking about this for? We should focus on bonding with each other. Let’s eat!” “Yes! Yes!” Albert also spoke up now. “He’s right. Why are we talking about these things at an alumni reunion? Hounding someone down about their connections is too cliché. What’s the point of that?” In the beginning, these two were the ones who used their status and background to lecture Christopher about making progress. Now, they were also the ones claiming that bonding was the main focus at an alumni reunion. Christopher was simply rendered speechless by them. There was a wise, old saying that went, ‘A man without enemies is a man without character’. Christopher fully understood the meaning behind these words now. Getting into an argument with people who fit into that description was shallow and petty. He wasn’t going to be like Albert and Leonard, who did such trivial things. By the time dinner ended, it was already 2.00AM. At this time of night, the sky was already pitch black. Despite the street lights on the boulevard, it was completely empty, with only a few pedestrians on the sidewalk. It was already so late in the night. Forget the bus—there weren’t even any cabs. Thus, this led to a problem. There were ten of them—apart from Leonard and Albert, who were driving, how were the remaining eight people going to get home? Driving up to the crowd in his BMW X5, Leonard rolled down the windows and asked, “Does anyone want to hitch a ride with me?” After he spoke, he even cast a rather smug glance at Christopher to show off. In response to his practically moronic move, Christopher did not know what else to do other than force a smile. At the same time, Albert also pulled up in his GAC Honda and opened the door. “I don’t think you’ll be able to get a cab at this hour, so does anyone want to get in my car? Ladies first, of course.” When he finished speaking, he also looked at Christopher, as though he was showing off. Christopher undoubtedly saw the look in his eyes, but he didn’t make any further comments. “Aren’t you going to hitch a ride?” Quinn asked when she saw Christopher standing in place while everyone else was heading toward Albert and Leonard’s cars.“I don’t think they would welcome me in their cars!” Christopher answered. With their personalities, it would only be odd if they did let him in. “What are you going to do, then?” Quinn asked with a worried look in her eyes. What am I going to do? He raised his eyebrows then said, “I’ll wait and see if any cabs pass by later. If there aren’t any, I’ll have to find a hotel to stay for the night.” “Okay!” Quinn nodded. I guess that is the only way. Beep! Beep! Suddenly, Leonard sounded the horn in his car and called out to Quinn, “Are you going to stay out here in the middle of nowhere with him, or are you going to hitch a ride with me?” “I’m coming!” As soon as she gave her reply, she started walking toward Leonard’s BMW X5. “Chef Yard, we’re off now.” After Quinn got in the car, Leonard circled around Christopher a few times and left a trail of emission behind before giving him a final remark with a victorious attitude. “Yes, we’re off now,” Albert chimed in mockingly. “Do as you please!” Christopher said nonchalantly as he shrugged at them.“Look at you still pretending!” With a grin, Leonard did not bother with Christopher any longer and stepped on the gas pedal to drive off. It would be strange if Christopher could get a cab at this hour. Vroom! Suddenly, at this moment, a rose-red Porsche entered their fields of vision. Forget Albert’s GAC Honda; even Leonard’s BMW X5 was many grades lower than this Porsche. Under the moonlight, the streamlined rose-red Porsche was as dazzling as a dark red gemstone. Not everyone could own a nice car like that; hence, they all figured that the owner of that Porsche was definitely the richest of the rich. Instinctively, Albert, Leonard, and the other people in the car all directed their gazes at the Porsche. The magnificent car slowly came to a stop at the side of the road. When the door opened, a fashion beauty wearing a light-gray shirt and a brown tight-fitting miniskirt appeared before them.
