“Do you think I want to be bothered with you? We might’ve been at odds with each other in university and did not have a great relationship, but we were still schoolmates. For the sake of that, I was just reminding you nicely. I didn't want you to throw away your future and go off in the wrong direction, but what is with your attitude? You’re just taking my goodwill for ill intent! You used to be the man of the hour in school, but look at the state you’re in now! Haven’t you thought of asking us, your old schoolmates, whether anyone could pull a few strings for you? If you’re willing to, I can even hire you to work as a handyman under me. I’m confident that you’ll get paid more than working as a cook. I’m just looking out for you!” It was a lie that he wanted to help Christopher change jobs, but it was true that he wanted to humiliate him. What could be more satisfying than making your old rival serve you a glass of water? That way, he’d be able to order Christopher around unconditionally in the future! I know what you’re thinking, Leonard. A job offer? No, thank you! Not wanting to waste any more time with Leonard, Christopher continued on his way out. At this moment, he saw someone he didn’t ever expect to see walking toward him in the corridor outside of the private room. “Mr. Yard!” As though it was very surprising to be able to bump into Christopher there, Wesley grabbed his arm excitedly and said, “Is this fate? I didn’t expect to see you here!” “Mr. Reynolds?” Christopher was also taken aback to see Wesley at the Madrila Private Club. “Are you meeting someone here?” he asked. From the smell of alcohol coming off of Wesley, he figured that he probably had had quite a bit to drink already. “A man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do!” Wesley replied. “We needed to discuss a project, so I invited some of our partners here for a meal. Why don’t you join us, Mr. Yard?” Join you? Christopher felt a chill. Those kinds of pretentious events, where nine out of ten things said had an ulterior motive behind them, were probably not much better than his alumni reunion. Christopher did not want to jump into another fire pit after having climbed out of one, so he declined. “No, I’m at an alumni reunion, so I can’t join you.” “I see!” Wesley was hoping he could form a connection with Christopher, so he couldn’t help but feel slightly disappointed after getting rejected. Since Christopher was not willing to, he didn’t intend on forcing him either. With a smile, he said, “Okay, then. I won’t force you, Mr. Yard.”Wesley was about to turn and leave when he heard an exclamation from inside the private room behind Christopher. “Mr. Reynolds, is that you?” Both Christopher and Wesley looked back at the same time and saw the female schoolmate who sat next to Christopher earlier and complained about him being a cook quickly walking out of the room. Wesley didn’t seem to know this woman. He looked at Christopher with a puzzled gaze and asked, “Who is this?” “My schoolmate.” Christopher started introducing her when, suddenly, he realized that he didn’t seem to recall her name, so he asked, “Oh, what was your name again?” “I’m… Q-Quinn Field.” Christopher didn’t know why she was nervous, but he could hear her stammering. “Miss Field! Hello!” Even though Wesley didn’t know this woman called Quinn, he still spoke to her patiently for Christopher’s sake. On the other hand, Quinn did not care about any of that. She was still in a state of extreme excitement. Grasping Wesley’s arm, she shook it frantically and said, “Mr. Reynolds, this is unexpected. I didn’t expect to run into you here!” They didn’t know what was up with her, but her excitement was at its peak. “Quinn, do you know Mr. Reynolds?” Christopher asked suddenly. “I don’t just know him!” she answered. “Mr. Reynolds, perhaps you don’t remember me. I’m Quinnie. I work for your company, Dream Cosmetics. I even went to the company’s headquarters last month to report to you!” “Dream Cosmetics?” He seemed to have found that company name familiar. After pondering on it, he came to the realization. “Oh! It’s you, Quinnie!” “Mr. Reynolds, do you remember me now?” She jumped for joy when she heard him. Did he actually remember her? Certainly not, but he did recall Dream Cosmetics being one of his subsidiaries. Wesley did business all over the place. He wasn’t just in the clothing and food and beverage industry; it seemed like he had a part in almost every industry. Dream Cosmetics was just one among his numerous businesses. “Quinnie, I didn’t know you and Mr. Yard were schoolmates.” He wouldn’t have cared if it had been a regular employee, but Quinn was different because she was Christopher’s schoolmate. “Work hard. I have high hopes for you!” he said as he patted her on the shoulder. “I will!” She nodded firmly, as if she had received a great amount of encouragement from his words. “Well, Mr. Yard.” Not wanting to say more to her, Wesley turned to look at Christopher. “I won’t keep you any longer.” With that, he turned away and left. Christopher did not mind, so he simply motioned for him to go. Once Wesley was gone, Quinn widened her eyes as she looked at Christopher and asked cautiously, “Um, are you close friends with Mr. Reynolds? He looks like he really cares about you.” “Hardly!” Christopher said. “Including our encounter today, I’ve only met him three times before.” Indeed, they had only met three times; once when Christopher pretended to be Luna’s boyfriend, once when he went shopping with Samantha, and today. “Why did he call you Mr. Yard, then?” she asked. Quinn was well aware of Wesley’s status. There weren’t many people he’d address formally. Moreover, she hadn’t ever seen him address a young person with this much respect.“You’ll have to ask him about that!” Christopher shrugged. From the disdain she showed him earlier to the cautious attitude she had now, Christopher naturally knew the reason for the change in her behavior. Feeling like he had nothing to talk to her about anymore, he said, “Well, I must get going now. Something really has come up at home.” With that, he started to leave. Before he could even take a step, however, she yanked him back at once. “Why are you in such a hurry to leave? What could possibly have happened at home? It’s still early! Don’t tell me you’re using it as an excuse to leave! I don’t care!” While she spoke, she rubbed her firm bosom against his arm. “You have to stay a bit longer! Otherwise, it will just mean that you’re looking down on us, your old schoolmates!” Looking down on my old schoolmates? Christopher was flustered. He was at a loss for words now. I think you guys are the ones looking down on an old schoolmate! In the end, he was dragged back against his will into the private room.
