Chapter 51 Hayden Strikes Again

After turning it over and messing with it for what seemed like forever, Christopher still couldn’t figure out anything else. “God damn it! Ugh, I can’t figure it out.” With that, he laid on his bed with his legs and arms wide open and muttered to himself, “How am I supposed to figure this all out without any user manual or feature introduction? Gah, this is too hard! Ah. Whatever. I don’t want to think about it anymore. I’ll figure it out when I do.” With this in mind, Christopher shut his eyes immediately and dozed off soon after. Finally, his rest day had come to an end, and Christopher resumed his work at The Serenade early the next morning. Even though he had successfully sold the wild ginseng he had drawn the last time and now had a huge net worth, he never had the intention of resigning from The Serenade. It was mainly for two reasons. Firstly, he still had a low level for all the four skills as a cook, so he had to hurry up and upgrade them while working in The Serenade. This way was definitely faster than working behind closed doors at home. Secondly, which was the more critical point—he still hadn’t conquered Luna, the domineering female manager of the restaurant, so how could he easily resign? In fact, he still had a long way to go in order to conquer this goddess. At noon, The Serenade's business was at its peak. After all, everyone had to give it to Scarlett despite her extremely bad temper—her ability was undeniable. Ever since she became the head chef in the restaurant and introduced several new dishes invented by herself, the restaurant’s business had been getting better by the day. As far as cooking was concerned, Christopher could not deny that Scarlett was the master. There was no time for anyone to laze around. For the sake of his four chef skills, Christopher had been on full firepower throughout the entire morning, frantically operating and absorbing experience. It was so that Scarlett, too, would have no reason to find fault in him. As the level up sign constantly appeared on the experience value of his various cooking skills, his busy noon, too, finally passed. After staying in the kitchen all morning, Christopher gently massaged his sore arms and planned to go outside to take a breather. But as soon as he stepped out of the back door, he saw a group of people, who seemed like reporters, gathering around someone while walking into the restaurant. Just when he was finally able to make out that person’s face clearly, Christopher couldn't help but frown deeply—the person that the reporters were surrounding was none other than Hayden Woods. At this moment, in the meeting room of The Serenade, the atmosphere was rather heavy. Christopher, Scarlett, and Luna were present, while Hayden, who had been swept out of the restaurant more than a month ago because he was defeated by Christopher’s Dual Wielding, was naturally there as well. The bald man was obviously onto something. After all, he was the one who organized this entire press-conference unannounced. And right now, he seemed to be talking about something with the reporters. “Chef Woods, do you mean that you used to work in this restaurant and then you were fired?” After analyzing what Hayden said and finding the key points, a female reporter with freckles on her face asked. “Yes.” Hearing someone mentioning his humiliating past in The Serenade, instead of being angry like how he used to, Hayden nodded calmly. “Then what’s the purpose of you returning today?”“I'm here to seek justice!” Hayden said righteously. “Seek justice?” Upon hearing what Hayden said, the crowd of reporters were overjoyed, as if knowing that there would definitely be a scoop rising from this situation—it was definitely going to make big news! “Is that so? Chef Woods, can you please elaborate specifically on that matter?” Looking at Hayden expectantly, the freckled reporter girl pushed her round-frame spectacles up the bridge of her nose and asked again. With a sneer, Hayden took a glance at Christopher and Luna before saying, “As a matter of fact, I started out in the cooking business at the age of 20, and then I went abroad to study at 30. When I was 40, I finally received the French Le Cordon Bleu Medal and became the skilled chef most people know me as. After I got the medal and returned to my homeland, I’d been working for The Serenade, at least until last month. During the time in which I served The Serenade, I worked humbly and always fulfilled my duties. I didn't dare to neglect the even slightest procedures, and I did everything a chef could possibly do! I believe I have dedicated all my enthusiasm, blood, sweat, and tears to this restaurant, and I am forever ready to fight for it! However, as unfortunate as it is, I had never thought that something like this would happen to me. I had never thought that...” At this point, Hayden’s eyes even turned red, as if he was going to burst into tears, just like a professional actor. “I was laid off unfairly, and they bit the hand that fed them. When the restaurant was on its road to success, I did nothing but work diligently. However, instead of being rewarded for my efforts, I was fired from the restaurant for some unwarranted excuses. I am absolutely disappointed, angry, and not at all willing to let my years of effort go down the drain. This is why I have invited all of you, my journalist friends, here today. I hope you will be able to seek justice for me!” he continued. His words were dramatic and filled with emotions. This way, he was able to play the victim card perfectly. He had also shown everyone how it was to be someone who knew absolutely no shame, as well as someone who could easily twist words like it was nothing. He could say whatever he wanted as it was his mouth anyway. At this point, Christopher couldn’t help but feel that it was a pity for Hayden to remain a chef while he should actually be an actor. With such superb acting skills, it wouldn’t be a stretch to give him an Oscar award after all. In fact, there was no one who would be able to tell such a lie without having as many loose screws in their head as he did. Such big news! Such big news indeed! After hearing Hayden’s impassioned accusation, the reporters all became excited. Hayden held the French Le Cordon Bleu Medal and therefore was considered a celebrity in the chef circle of Brentwood City—and it was precisely because of this that he was able to gather so many journalists at once. It was understandable that when people found out that such unfair treatment was subjected toward a prestigious chef like himself, who was so responsible and humble, they would all stand up for him. To the journalists, such an attractive event that resonated with people was prime news material. Not only Brentwood's cooking industry, but even ordinary people would be concerned about this kind of news. “Hi. Are you Ms. Sears?” Knowing Luna’s name from Hayden’s description, a journalist immediately turned to her and asked, “Is there anything you would like to say?” He was obviously moved by Hayden’s emotional performance a while ago. “No.” Luna had always been a woman of few words, and she replied with merely one word. “Does that mean that you admit to all of Chef Woods’ accusations and agree that what he stated were all facts?” Not letting go of the opportunity, the same reporter continued to pry. “I said no such thing.” “Well, then what’s your explanation for what Chef Woods had just said?” Well, she doesn't admit it, but she also isn’t trying to explain. What is she trying to do? Having this thought in mind, the reporter was confused, and so he continued to ask. “There is no need for any explanations.” Luna’s tone was cold as usual. “This is because any explanation made may very well be redundant. Both parties who were involved are present—if you have any questions, why not just ask them directly?” As she was saying that, Luna turned her gaze to Christopher. Ha! Christopher knew that this incident would eventually fall on him. After all, he was the one who Hayden had come for today, as he was the one who had caused him to be fired from The Serenade. “And you are?” Another reporter asked with a puzzled look. “Christopher Yard.” Christopher introduced himself with a big grin. “A line cook at The Serenade.”
