God-Tier Like System
Line cook? The reporters frowned in confusion upon hearing Christopher’s answer. How could an ordinary line cook be involved in this incident at all? It seems that there’s more to this situation. However, without digging too much into Chrsitopher’s identity, the reporter continued to ask instead, “A while ago, Ms. Sears said that you were one of the parties involved in this incident. Could it be that Chef Woods’ dismissal actually had something to do with you after all?” “Yes, indeed.” Christopher nodded in agreement. “Why do you say so?” Hearing his answer, the reporters got excited and asked eagerly. In fact, Christopher was still unsure of the ultimate goal of Hayden’s visitation to The Serenade today, but he didn’t feel burdened by it at all, so he told the reporters the truth of the incident while sparing no detail. As he did that, he explained earnestly and without any exaggerations—only the truth. After all, Christopher’s description toward the matter was very organized and in good flow, so the reporters were able to immediately extract the main meaning of his words. “So, you are basically saying that, for some reason, Chef Woods and you had placed a bet and competed against each other in a knife skill competition. However, since he lost during the competition, he was told to leave The Serenade due to the bet?” It was indeed the fact, so Christopher nodded in agreement. “Ridiculous, how ridiculous!” As soon as Christopher nodded, Hayden, who had been standing to the side, suddenly laughed loudly. As if Christopher’s nod had wronged him to the extreme, he retorted, “His entire statement is extremely ridiculous. Are you trying to say that you, a mere line cook, had defeated me, the owner of the French Le Cordon Bleu Medal? Don’t you think this is too much of a bullsh*t story, even for you?” “Are you trying to say that it was not what happened?” Christopher frowned slightly as he asked. “Of course that was not what happened!” At once, Hayden waved his hand and said to the crowd, “All my friends from the media, please think about what he had said a while ago. Even a line cook like him has the courage to say that he had defeated me. I am the owner of the French Le Cordon Bleu Medal, for the love of God! Don’t you think what he said is absolutely illogical and ridiculous too? I am sure all of you would be able to differentiate between right and wrong clearly. Am I right?”There were indeed no holes in Christopher’s statement, but Hayden’s words also had some weight to it; to be honest, it came off as a bit exaggerated for a line chef to be claiming that he actually won against the owner of the French Le Cordon Bleu Medal in knife skills. Christopher had long expected this to happen. With Hayden’s personality, he would definitely not admit to losing to Christopher, so he merely smiled and left it at that. However, even though Christopher could be calm about this, Scarlett could not at all, because one of her absolute pet peeves was for someone to lie about their cooking skills. As a matter of fact, she had already watched the competition video between the two. Although she did think that what had happened was indeed a little fishy, Christopher won, and that was the fact. If it weren’t for the fact that the surveillance video of The Serenade could only be kept for one month and would be automatically deleted after that time frame, Scarlett would have long asked someone to take the video out and show them to everyone to give Hayden a big fat slap in the face. Moreover, even though she really couldn’t take Christopher’s laziness in the kitchen, she still knew which side she should be on in the face of such an issue. At the same time, she could finally relate to what her grandpa said before—fat, bald men were usually cunning like a fox. Damn it, Hayden Woods. You’re so despicable! Scarlett hissed in her heart. The more she thought about it, the hotter the anger in her heart burned. Scarlett was always not a person who could conceal her emotions. Though there was no apparent evidence on hand to prove that Christopher had indeed defeated Hayden in the show-off, she still said with a sneer, “Wow, Hayden. How could a bald, fat pig like you be so shameless!? It’s a fact that you have lost, and you should take it like a man! How could you twist the truth and blame us, saying that we were lying to everyone here! Knowing that there is someone like this in this world pisses me off!” On the other hand, as the former head chef of The Serenade, Hayden naturally knew that the video that had captured him losing the battle against Christopher had probably been deleted. Otherwise, he would not have come so rashly. Seeing the reaction of Luna, Christopher, and this girl named Scarlett a while ago further proved his idea, so he became even more unscrupulous. Annoyed, he took a look at Scarlett and asked, “Where did you come from, b*tch? You weren’t even here when things went down; who are you to even speak about this at this point?” B*tch? B*tch?!Scarlett was absolutely enraged as soon as she heard what Hayden had called her. Who the hell does he think he is speaking to? Scarlett thought to herself furiously before yelling, “I will fight you right now!” Not paying attention to her image at all—rather, to Scarlett, the concept of self-image did not exist—she rushed to Hayden angrily, wanting to fight him for real. However, before she could do or say anything further, Luna halted her and said, “Enough, Scarlett.” Then, she continued softly, “Let’s not be impulsive. Sit down.” “B-But Luna! He—” “Sit down.” Luna repeated, this time sternly. “Fine!” Although she was immensely reluctant, Scarlett had to return to her seat after hearing Luna’s order. Seeing how Luna got Scarlett to take a seat, Hayden got even prouder than before. With a slight smirk, he said, “Tsk, tsk. Ms. Sears, it seems like The Serenade had hit rock bottom when I wasn’t around, huh? I couldn’t even begin to think of the reason why you would let someone so immature like her to be the head chef of the restaurant. Can she even take on such a big task? After all, this isn’t the same as playing with dolls.”Shaking his head and pretending to be distressed while hammering his own chest with his fist, Hayden straightened out the remaining few hairs he had left on his forehead and continued, “Well, all my friends from the media, I won’t say anymore, but I think you should be able to judge rationally in regards to this.” The reporters couldn’t judge rationally; now that both parties had made their statements and were telling wildly different stories, it was hard to distinguish who was lying. However, it was obvious that if they were to write the news from Hayden’s perspective, it would be more gimmicky. What was the truth? These reporters didn’t care one bit; what they cared about was the sales volume of their tabloids. As a matter of fact, from the beginning of this farce-like press conference, Luna seemed weirdly calm. Whether it was when Hayden brought up the bunch of nonsense and planted the blame on The Serenade, or even when he publicly ridiculed Scarlett, Luna showed not even the slightest change in her expression. Hayden’s scheme seemed impeccable, but it was actually very simple to win it over, and Luna had found a way to deal with it long ago. After taking a glance around the crowd, she said, “Dear friends from the press, although Mr. Woods seems to be a person that is full of lies to me, to be fair, he has gotten something right, which is ‘action speaks louder than words’. It is actually very simple to uncover the truth behind this, which is for Mr. Woods and our line cook, Mr. Yard, to compete again. Wouldn’t we be able to find the truth that way? I’m sure that since Mr. Woods is so confident about his cooking skills, he will definitely not reject this idea.” With that, Luna looked at Hayden with a smile. Previously, Christopher defeated Hayden with his Dual Wielding skill. So, logically speaking, Hayden should avoid competing again, but his answer to Luna’s proposal was beyond her expectation. It seemed that he had long expected her to suggest such a thing. He smiled coldly then said, “Great minds think alike! I have the same thought too! Ms. Sears is right; to prove who is the one that lied, we’ll just have to compete again!”
