Chapter 49 Fire This Woman for Me

Speaking of this, Rose began speaking to Christopher again. “Hey, you jerk. We’ve already calculated it for you, and the total is 260,000! Don't tell me you can’t afford it!” “260,000?” Samantha gasped as soon as she heard the amount before she immediately covered her mouth with her palm. However, Christopher only kept a harmless and indifferent smile while walking toward the counter. When he took his card out to pay, as if he was reminded again of something, he suddenly asked, “How much does it cost to buy your store?” His voice wasn’t too loud, but everyone in the store, including Samantha, heard him loud and clear. He wants to buy the store? Rose thought she had heard him wrongly. Wow, I’ve seen my share of pretentious people, but this is my first time seeing someone as pretentious as this! It’s interesting how unhinged someone can get to say something like this, Rose thought to herself with a sneer. If Christopher was not wearing his normal outfit but a hospital gown, she would have thought that this man had come straight out of a mental hospital. What gave him the courage to think he can be so arrogant and act like he would be able to buy this store?“Well, it seems like no one here is the decision maker.” Seeing how the group of salespeople remained silent, Christopher continued, “Then, I want to talk to someone who is. Where is your boss?” He looked grim and serious, causing everyone to look at each other nervously. “Rose?” Jane, who was another saleswoman in the store, spoke to the middle-aged woman, who seemed extremely irritable. “Still pretending, huh? Alright, then. Jane, give Mr. Reynolds a call right away. I want to see what this fraud is capable of doing!” Rose barked, her words filled with anger. Approximately fifteen minutes after Jane had made the call, the ‘Mr. Reynolds’ that Rose had mentioned rushed to the store. As soon as Christopher saw the man, he felt that the world was truly a small place. Never would he have thought that the ‘Mr Reynolds’ Rose had spoken about a while ago would be the man he met at the movie theater with Luna the other day. “Mr. Yard!” It was obvious that Wesley was very surprised to meet Christopher here. “I didn't expect to meet you here.” “Me neither.” Christopher smiled widely as he asked, “You are the owner of this shop?” “Yes, indeed.” Wesley nodded and answered, “An employee here called me a while ago and said that someone wants to buy out this shop—could it be you, Mr. Yard?” Christopher merely nodded. “And here I was, wondering who could be so generous! Turns out it’s you, Mr. Yard!” In Wesley’s eyes, Christopher’s identity was truly full of mysteries. In his opinion, not just any ordinary person could get someone as exquisite as Luna. With this thought in mind, Wesley wanted to make friends with Christopher, thinking that even if they couldn’t be friends, at least they could get acquainted. Well, isn’t this how people expand their social network? Right away, Wesley’s eyes lit up upon noticing the beautiful Samatha standing right behind Christoper, and he asked, “And this is?” “My girlfriend,” Christopher answered bluntly. As a matter of fact, he wasn’t at all worried whether his answer would make Wesley doubt him. After all, based on the nature and attitude of this group of people, he estimated that the more outlandish things he said, the more remarkable they would believe him to be. And his estimations proved right. Hearing Christopher’s answer, Wesley was visibly shocked at first, but he later gave him a thumbs up. The meaning behind it was obvious: Good grief, not only were you able to get Luna, you could also snatch up this beauty too—how amazing! Knowing the significance of remaining silent at times like this, Christopher merely smiled and left it at that. “Mr. Yard, what do you do? Why are you even interested in the clothing industry?” It was obvious now that he was trying to dig into Christopher’s background. Adhering to the previous concept that he had been using, Christopher said honestly, “Nah. I am not doing any business; I am merely a cook at The Serenade.” He knew Wesley would definitely come to a conclusion on his own to his answer. As expected, Wesley showed him a dazed expression upon hearing his answer. The man thought to himself, It is no surprise that he was able to win Luna’s heart. After all, it turns out he had already penetrated into the enemy’s base. In fact, Wesley only regarded Christopher’s identity as a cook as a means for him to pursue Luna, but he had never once thought that he actually was just a cook in The Serenade. “Mr. Reynolds, if you’d like to chat, we can always continue later. But now, shall we discuss the real business here?” Christopher asked. “Oh, yes!” Wesley slapped his forehead sharply upon recalling why he was really here, and then continued, “Did you just say that you wanted to buy my store, Mr. Yard?” “I did. But right now, I don’t feel like there is a need to anymore,” Christopher said with a smile. “There’s no need for it anymore?” Hearing that, Wesley was a little puzzled. “Yes.” Christopher nodded. “Since this shop belongs to you, then there is no need to complicate things further. Mr. Reynolds, can you please do me a favor?” “Go ahead, Mr. Yard.” With a blade for a smile, Christopher looked at Rose and said, “Fire this woman for me.” This sentence left Rose absolutely shocked as her face was instantly drained of color. Ever since she discovered that Christopher seemed to know Wesley, her gut twisted, telling her that something wasn’t right. And now, her premonition had been confirmed. With the kind of status that Wesley had, anyone who could talk and laugh so casually with him were of the same status as he, which meant they were not someone that she could afford to offend. It made sense why Christopher didn't change his expression even after he had heard of the price increase. It was not that he was pretending, but that he really didn’t care. He wasn’t just trying to delay the time when he said he wanted to buy the store, and he really had intended to make the purchase, while his purpose for buying the store was to fire her. Rose finally knew that she had offended someone that she shouldn’t have, but it was too late for her to regret now. Although Wesley didn’t know why Christopher wanted Rose fired, he didn’t care about it at all. After all, firing an employee was nothing to him. Raising his eyebrow, Wesley said to Rose, “Well, you heard him, didn’t you? So I won’t say any more. You don’t have to come in for work, starting tomorrow.” If Rose was a proud peacock before, she was now a defeated hen. Presently, she dared not say a word of rebuttal. Even though she had been fired, she could only nod her head. In fact, Christopher didn’t think he had overreacted regarding this matter. After all, the wicked had their own ends. If Rose hadn’t discriminated against others, it wouldn’t have come to this. “I appreciate it, Mr. Reynolds,” Christopher said with gratitude. “Don’t mention it!” Wesley replied simply. “Oh, right. Do you have time this afternoon? If so, I would like to buy you a meal, Mr. Yard.” Before he knew it, Wesley had begun to butter up Christopher. “There’s no need for that.” Christopher didn't mean to play along with Wesley any further and said, “However, if you were to visit The Serenade, I will be glad to cook for you.” “Is that so!” Even though Christopher did not accept his invitation, Wesley didn’t push it further. Instead, he only replied, “It’d be my pleasure to have you cook for me, then. Hopefully, I won’t be too much of a bother.” Hearing that, Christopher nodded slightly, signaling to Wesley that it was not a problem at all.
