God-Tier Like System

Chapter 184 Maurice’s Sudden Attack

Brandon wasn’t a weak individual; he would have certainly been a man of status in Brentwood City if his lover hadn’t stolen his company away from him. What mattered more to Christopher, however, was the fact that Brandon came from the food and beverage industry. This trait was the reason Brandon felt like God’s gift to Christopher, and Christopher knew better than to let this gift slip out of his hands. In the future, Christopher wanted more than to own a restaurant or a diner. He wanted to own a whole restaurant franchise, and he wanted his restaurants to have an impact on the entire Brentwood, or perhaps even the whole of Madrila. The old Christopher might not have been able to do it, but everything had turned into a possibility after the existence of the Thumbs-Up System. A bewildered look flashed across Brandon’s gaze when he first heard what Christopher said. Brandon took a long, careful look at the young man, and he let out a bitter chuckle when he realized that he couldn’t seem to gauge what the young man was thinking about. “Don’t kid me. I was blinded by that woman’s beauty in the past, and I’ve cut ties with most of my closest friends and family during that time. I have nothing at all now, and you probably wouldn’t have enough money for me to go against that woman, right? I don’t think you’d be able to produce so much money even if you were from a rich family.” Christopher gave the older man a faint smile. “You’re right. I don’t have that much money. However, I have a way to help you regain power. The difference is, of course, that you’re now working for me.” Brandon’s expression grew serious when he noticed how calm and composed Christopher seemed. “Are you serious?” Brandon asked in a cautious tone. He still couldn’t tell what was going on in Christopher’s mind. Christopher nodded and waited patiently for Brandon’s response. “Okay! Deal! I swear, as long as you can help me to defeat that woman, I’ll be your follower for the rest of my life. I’ll help you manage your companies, and I’ll never betray you.” Brandon gritted his teeth and put on a determined look as he gave Christopher a solid answer. Upon hearing Brandon’s response, Christopher gave him a firm pat on the shoulder. “You should spend some time with Emma for now. I’ll ask for you when I need you to do something.” Christopher was glad to have Brandon’s agreement, and he knew that everything would go on smoothly once they signed a contract with each other. Christopher wasn’t worried about Brandon’s betrayal; after all, Christopher had his ways of dealing with such matters.Once Christopher ensured that Brandon and Emma had settled down in the ward, he walked over to check on Madilyn and her father. There, he found out that Madilyn’s father’s condition was much more stable than before. Since Christopher was the dean of Crest Hospital, and since Harold was the one who provided the funds for Madilyn and her father’s expenses, Madilyn didn’t need to worry about her father at all. With a wave of his arms, Christopher reassured her that he had everything under control and that nothing would go wrong. After that, Christopher returned to Scarlett with the intention of heading home with her. However, Scarlett couldn’t bear to leave Emma in the hospital, so Christopher left the building on his own without commenting any further. That was pretty much the end of Christopher’s day, so he checked on the Thumbs-Up points he received that day. He got a total of approximately 50,000 that day, and he had a total of 110,000 after adding in his previous 60,000 Thumbs-Up points. Christopher didn’t care much about the number of points he had since he couldn’t get much with his amount. He knew that he would have to earn more Thumbs-Up points if he wanted to get something good. Moreover, he would require a lot more points if his future restaurant franchises were to come up with some new dishes. However, Christopher hadn’t given it much thought at that point, and he simply headed to The Serenade, where he picked his Ferrari up before heading home. There were only a few people around when he arrived at the residential area of the house he had purchased. There were only a limited number of individuals who could afford a house that was worth a million, and the place was especially empty since many of the residents had just ended work. Most of them had yet to return from work, so the area was the quietest during that hour. Christopher had parked his car in the parking lot, and he had just stepped out of his car when he sensed something. All of his hairs stood on end as a surge of vigilance coursed through his entire body. His facial muscles tightened as he looked around him to identify any possibly dangerous objects or people around him. However, the person seemed to be good at hiding himself, for Christopher couldn’t spot the person’s whereabouts at all. Whoosh! An individual’s figure appeared in front of Christopher without any warning, and the figure seemed to hold onto some material that reflected light. The bright light shot right across Christopher’s neck at an insanely fast speed. Fortunately, Christopher was especially alerted after drinking the Bone Broth Detox Soup, so his responses were just as quick as the other person. His pupils shrunk as he dodged the attack and summoned his own weapon at the same time. A bright light emerged in his hand as Christopher turned his body sideways to distance himself from his attacker. When Christopher finally slowed down to take a good look at his attacker, he saw a skinny man dressed in a green shirt. The man was so skinny that his bones looked like they protruded out of his skin at odd angles. With his gaze fixed firmly upon Christopher, the man clutched onto the sharp, gleaming knife in his hand. “Who are you? Why did you attack me?” Christopher’s expression was stern as he tightened his grip on the kitchen knife in his hand. He had only acquired the Art of the Knife a while ago, and he had been taking his time to understand the way it worked. It seems like I’ll have a chance to use my skills today. “You don’t have to know my name, idiot. I’m attacking you because you’ve messed with someone you shouldn’t have messed with. You’ll never be able to catch Jacob.” A playful smirk found its way to Maurice Green’s face as he stared at Christopher, but his gaze remained as cold and chilly as it did before. Meanwhile, Christopher’s expression darkened after he heard what the man said. This guy is pretty fast; I think he might even be a professional killer. I would’ve become his victim if my reaction had been just a little bit slower. To be honest, I have a feeling that this might be the toughest opponent I’ve encountered so far. My life would have been in danger if I didn’t have the Art of the Knife. All of a sudden, Maurice’s figure disappeared from his spot with another loud whooshing noise before he made his way toward Christopher. The glistening knife was aimed directly toward Christopher’s chest. Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh! At the same moment, Christopher gathered all his knowledge regarding the Boil technique in the Art of the Knife. The kitchen knife spun at high speed, yet it stuck onto his right hand as if he had a strong magnet under his skin that kept the knife attached. Clang! When Maurice’s sharp knife was just two inches away from Christopher’s chest, Christopher’s kitchen knife struck against the attacker’s weapon, and sparks burst where the two pieces of metal came in contact with each other. These bright sparks of fire accompanied the clear sound that rang in both their ears.
