Chapter 93 Mysterious Core

After the screen went dark, both Sylvia and Ian stood still for a moment, perhaps contemplating on the new discovery they had just found. “How did you find that device in your hand?” Sylvia stared at the unknown device in Ian’s hand. “Right there.” Ian pointed at a table desk up in the distance. “It was lying on the desk. Oh, I also found a diary along with it.” Hearing this, Sylvia took a step forward and reach out for the screen wall in front of her. The screen has the rough texture a wall should have and one wouldn't be able to tell that what was in front of them was a screen at all. After touching to her satisfaction, she took a step backward. “A war seems to have happened here.” She assessed. “But what’s the abyss devil they keep on talking about? I’m pretty much sure that I haven’t heard of such name.” Susu was about to give reply to her question when Ian voice suddenly rang out. “They are the fierce beasts we see in the wilds. Back in the past, fierce beasts were called abyss devil as it was believed that they crawled out of the abyss.” “Crawled out of the abyss?” Sylvia curiosity was piqued at the hearing of that. [This darn guy. How dare he beat me to it.] Susu was furious seeing that Ian had answered Sylvia question. “Hmm.” Ian nodded. “It was written inside an old parchment I chance upon inside the royal library. However, that term had been long been outdated thousands of years ago.” “Let me take a look at the diary.” Ian took out the diary from his storage ring and hand it over to Sylvia. The outer layer of the book was covered in dust, but the inner part was perfectly fine. Sylvia opened it and began to read through the content. The content inside appears to have been written by another researcher, as the point of view of the writer doesn’t seem to be Athan. Most of the subject written inside were talks about failed experiments and their dream of ending the disaster going on in the outside world. From what she could tell, this laboratory is likely to have been built after the fierce beasts evaded the planet. Inside the diary, the researcher mentioned some words about the creature called abyssal devil. They were known as devils who has the ability bewitch all living things. Also, it looks like the position Starry Sky planet hold back then was quite strong. Sylvia hand the book over to Ian. “The laboratory storage room is on the upper floor. Why don't we take a look.” Sylvia proposed. She had just gotten this info from the diary she just read. Ian puts away the diary. Hearing Sylvia proposal, he said, “Wouldn't everything inside already been taken away.” “We can still go up there to try our luck. From the video feed, the researchers appear to have left in hurry. So even if they took something along with them, there would still be some leftover.” “Okay then.” Ian readily agreed. While heading out, his gaze lingered on the giant humanoid robots in the room. In his mind, he was already devising a plan on how to bring them out of this place. With such cold weapons in their hand, Starry Sky planet would be able to jump up in rank and become a first-rate planet. The two soon arrived on the next floor. Around were several chairs and tables. Just from the serving stand nearby, they could tell that this place used to be the laboratory cafeteria. But since this wasn't their destination, Sylvia quickens her pace and head over to the next floor. “Do you think that this place might have existed before the fierce beasts evaded the planet?” Ian, whose mind finally reasoned asked. “It should be after.” Sylvia replied. “Then how could they still loose against the fierce beast when they were using such powerful weapons to fight them off. I still don’t get it.” Ian had a look of confusion on his face. “Who knows. Perhaps the first generation of fierce beasts are much stronger than the current ones.”Ian stopped talking after that. Sylvia had no idea on what was going through his mind. They soon arrived on the third floor. Before them was a thick metal door. At the side, was the access screen which require a passcode to get the door opened. “This must be the storage room.” Sylvia smiled. But instead of feeling delighted, Ian’s mind was troubled. His communication blocked with Huji also add to the cause of it. “Hum... Don't you think it's quite strange?” Sylvia heard him and looked back at him. “What's quite strange?” “This place has been in existence for over hundreds of thousands of years. Yet, the power supply is still running. Isn’t that strange to you?” Both wear and tear aren’t something that can escape from the erosion of time. Yet this place only appears to be covered in dust while every other thing seems to be perfectly fine. Even the diary book was perfectly intact, which is somewhat abnormal. “You know, stuffs from the ancient times are more durable than the one produced in these days.” Sylvia chuckled. “You know I'm not talking about that.” “I know. And you’re also right about this place being weird. Nonetheless, it wouldn't hurt to raise our guard up.” While saying that, Sylvia input in the passcode and the door unlock with a click. “Let’s go in.” Ian didn't ask how she knew the passcode since everyone each has a secret of their own. ****** Inside a room, there were several holographic screens floating around showing different footages of the entire laboratory. On the main screen, two figures could be seen entering into the laboratory storage room. “Energy. I can sense a huge amount of energy radiating from both of them.” There was no one inside the room, except for the floating red core in front of the main screen. Yet, the earlier voice seems to have come from this floating red core. The door to the room suddenly opened and a small humanoid robot entered the room. It halted just a few meters away from the floating red core and relayed: “They’ve arrived on the third floor and are currently inside the storage room.” “I can see that already. Good job. Now, shall I reward you with my earlier promise.” As it said this, dense of red mist began to seep out of the core’s body. Sensing the sudden danger, the robot immediately sprinted towards the door. However, the red mist seems to be faster than its charge. “Ahhh!!!” A loud scream, different from the earlier mechanical voice came out from the robot’s mouth. Soon after, a translucent mist in the shape of human body floated out of the robot body. The figure of the mist appears to be wearing the white coat meant for researcher. The expression on its was distorted as it seems to be suffering from an unbearable pain. Like a firefly attracted to a light, the mist floated in the direction of the red core and was totally absorbed by it. “Tsk. Such a little amount of energy.” The core spat out in disdain. “Well, isn't there a huge energy reservoir bank walking just right in front of me.” A loud heartily laugh escape from its mouth. Just as it was about to head out of the room, it noticed some movement on the camera footage. Seeing the two figures coming out from the forest, it chuckled. “Oh, these two broke through the illusion so quickly. With more people, doesn’t that mean more food for me. Wow, today seems to be my lucky day.” Humming in excitement, the core immediately left the room.
