Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 609 Riding the Storm

Summer said she would try a little harder. If it still didn't work, they would have to let Nelson handle it. Caroline agreed and said, "Alright. I'll talk to Nelson. But whether he can cure you or not depends on him." Caroline knew Nelson could fix it. Still, she didn't want to say it too firmly out loud. After hearing that, Crow immediately used his ability. But five seconds later, a look of surprise flashed in his eyes. "Oh!" "What is it?" Caroline grabbed his hand. "Did you find Nelson? Did you see his future?" Crow nodded lightly. "Yes. He should be back at the base very soon. I have a vision. He'll be back." Caroline didn't press him about his hesitation. She let out a quiet breath of relief. As long as he could come back, that was enough. But what she didn't expect was that about five minutes later, Nelson really did return and he returned right in front of everyone in the base. He was holding a wooden stick. A cream-filled cupcake was tied to the end with a rope. And Nelson was riding on top of a huge, skinny mutant pig, charging forward at full speed. The cupcake dangled in front of the pig like bait, guiding it forward and even helping it turn. As the pig ran, its saliva flew everywhere, almost forming a long trail on the ground. Behind them, a sandstorm was rolling in. Nelson was shouting at the top of his lungs, "Run, run! Faster, faster! Good piggy, run faster! Carry me back to the base, and I'll feed you! You have to outrun the sandstorm!" His voice echoed through the air. Everyone on the base had already noticed the sandstorm. While Caroline had gone out to find Nelson, the base had sealed broken windows and made full preparations. They were just about to close the main gate when they saw Nelson charging toward them from afar. At this moment, all civilians were inside their buildings. Soldiers were at their posts. Francis was so busy he barely had time to breathe, but he still kept an eye on the storm. So everyone saw it. Nelson was riding a pig.But the sandstorm was moving too fast. It was about to catch up with Nelson and the pig. Worse still, inside the wall of sand, a tornado was forming and rushing closer. The tornado pulled debris into the air, spinning wildly. Trees were torn apart. Even small rocks were dragged into its center. "Close the gate! Hurry, close it!" People inside the base began shouting in fear. Some panicked civilians even ran out and threatened the soldiers on guard. "If the sandstorm gets in, the whole base will suffer! He ran out on his own! He had it coming! Close the gate!" A man rushed forward and grabbed a soldier by the collar and yelled at him. The soldier wasted no time. He threw the man to the ground. That action lit the fuse. People started shouting that the army was killing civilians, that they were risking everyone's lives just to save one person. The base fell into chaos. The noise quickly reached Caroline, who had just stepped out of Crow's room. She saw Nelson riding a piglet in the distance, slowly getting closer. Without thinking, she ran toward the main gate to meet him. Caroline finally understood why Crow had hesitated earlier. Nelson looked ridiculous. Nelson was still over 300 feet away. But suddenly, the tornado behind him sped up. It shot past the sandstorm and charged straight at him. At the critical moment, a flash of light appeared to the side. The light stretched into a line under the sun. Metallic light. In the next second, Nelson and the piglet beneath him were lifted into the air. They spun once and flew toward the base, as if someone had thrown them forward. It looked like free fall. The piglet screamed in terror, but its voice was drowned out by the roaring wind. Only its wide-open mouth showed how scared it was. Pigs have short necks. They can't lift their heads. With their eye position and heavy bodies, pigs spend their whole lives unable to see the sky. Even after mutating, this pig's body structure hadn't changed. But as the pig spun through the air, its floppy ears flipped back. Its small eyes widened in pure fear. And then, it saw the sky. A deep blue sky, partly veiled by fine yellow sand. White clouds drifted quietly above.
