Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
The wind roared past Haroldson's mouth and forced a mouthful of sand straight in. But the look he gave Caroline was full of fear and panic. Caroline didn't waste a second. She lifted Haroldson onto Raven's back, climbed up herself, and urged Raven forward. She wanted to get out of the sandstorm zone first. As they moved, she kept scanning the area for Nelson. He was nowhere to be seen. Her worry grew with every second. If she couldn't randomly pull Crow's ability, she would have to rush back to the base and bring Crow himself to find Nelson. At that same time, Nelson was standing on the rooftop of a building. He held a surgical scalpel in his hand and stared coldly at Shane. "Take me back. Now." The crazy look Shane used to have was gone. He looked strangely calm as he shook his head hard. "No. No. We can't go back." Nelson wanted to explode. All he had was a scalpel, a syringe in his pocket, a few chemical supplies, and a cupcake he had crushed so hard it was completely misshapen. That was it. Nothing else. He didn't even know where he was. He only knew the base was far away. Most of the buildings around them had collapsed in the last earthquake. This one was the only one left standing, like a rare miracle. Since Shane wouldn't listen, Nelson stepped closer. He clenched his teeth and stared straight into Shane's eyes. "Why?" Shane suddenly grew anxious. He scratched his head hard, even pulling at his own hair. "It's scary. There's something very scary!" Nelson snapped. He grabbed Shane by the collar. "If there's something scary, that's even more reason to go back! Are you out of your mind? I'm out here! What about my friends? If you don't take me back right now, I'll end you!" Then, right in front of Nelson's eyes, Shane began to turn transparent. First, Shane's face showed pure panic. Then his eyes changed. They no longer looked like Shane's at all. A calm, unfamiliar voice came out of his mouth. "Greetings, friend from afar. I am borrowing this body to speak with you. Did you enjoy my gift? The cyan ability and this sandstorm."A wicked smile suddenly spread across Shane's face. After that, Shane vanished completely in front of Nelson's eyes. Nelson stood frozen, unable to process what had happened. A cold chill ran down his back. From where he stood, he could clearly see it now. In the distance, massive clouds of sand were rising, swallowing huge areas of land. "Who could control Shane and control a sandstorm? And what gift is he talking about?" Nelson frowned deeply. But he had an even bigger problem right now. How was he supposed to get out of here? He was terrible at fighting, and there wasn't even a ladder on this rooftop. Just as he was about to lose his mind and start cursing Shane again, he noticed something. A pair of eyes was watching him from the shadows. Those eyes were locked onto the crushed cupcake in his hand, filled with greed. Caroline rushed back to the base and handed Haroldson over to the soldiers there. Then she immediately went to find Crow. In just that short time, the sandstorm had grown even larger. It was heading straight toward the base and could swallow the entire place. Crow was inside his room, lost in thought. Since arriving at the base, he hadn't had much to do. He was basically living off public support. He had even gained a few pounds after getting sick. He never imagined his later years would look like this. Thinking back to his past, leading mercenary teams, fighting across the land, living on the edge of death. He sighed. Then someone knocked hard on the door. "Crow! Open up!" Just hearing the voice made Crow shiver. Why is Caroline here again? One good thing about the base was the small windows. Lately, Caroline had only come during the day and used the front door. No more sudden knocks in the middle of the night, which meant Crow could finally sleep in peace. He opened the door and quickly reached out his hand. But Caroline didn't take it. She said urgently, "Nelson was taken by a madman. I need you to help find where he is." Crow instantly snapped awake. He looked at Caroline, his eyes sharp and steady. "I can help you find Nelson, but you have to cure my illness." Summer had already examined Crow before. They hadn't found any effective treatment.
