Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
Caroline was already moving fast, but Shane was even faster. In just a blink, he broke free. He rushed forward so quickly that his body blurred. Before anyone could react, he hoisted Nelson over his shoulder, jumped through the window, and escaped. The whole move was smooth and clean. No hesitation at all. Caroline didn't even get the chance to chase him. She ran to the window at once. But outside, there was nothing. No Nelson. No sight of Shane. They were just gone. Caroline slammed her hand against the window twice. She scanned the area around it, searching for any trace Shane might have left behind. There was nothing. Not a single clue. There was no time to waste. She climbed onto the window, ready to jump out and search the area herself. But the moment her foot touched the frame, a deep boom thundered again. This time, the ground shook hard. A wave of heat from the explosion rushed straight at her face. She stumbled and nearly lost her balance, almost falling straight out of the window. After landing outside, she looked around quickly. To the east, a massive mushroom-shaped cloud rose into the sky. It was the result of a huge explosion a few hundred feet away. The shockwave made the entire base tremble. "Raven!" she shouted. Raven, who had been waiting inside the base for a long time, leapt out the window at once and ran to her side. Jet flew over too, but Caroline pushed him back. "Go back and watch the panda cubs. Make sure they're safe!" Then Caroline mounted Raven, and together they raced through the area, searching for any sign of Nelson. Meanwhile, she also stayed alert for more strange explosions. A few hundred feet ahead, a war was unfolding. After using his ability twice in a row, Haroldson had completely drained his energy. He collapsed onto the ground, unable to move. Just moments earlier, he had used the ability-restoring potion Caroline gave him. With his last bit of strength, he ran. That was the only reason he was still alive. As for his teammates... Haroldson stared ahead, his eyes wet. His fists clenched tightly. He couldn't say a single word. What terrified him most was this: he wasn't even sure that thing was dead. He glanced back toward the base, his brow tightening with worry. If that thing went there, the results would be unthinkable. Meanwhile, Caroline and Raven kept running, but there was still no sign of Nelson or Shane. She looked toward the direction of the explosion and decided to head that way. But after only a few steps, the sky ahead suddenly changed. A violent wind rose in the distance, dragging sand and dust with it. It rolled forward like a massive yellow cloud, spreading across the sky and blocking out everything. It felt like if that sandstorm reached her, it would swallow her whole. "A sandstorm?" she murmured. When she thought of Nelson and the danger Shane had been in when he disappeared, she knew she couldn't turn back now. After mutating, Raven had become extremely intelligent. Still, the sight of the oncoming sandstorm made him instinctively afraid. He started to step back. Caroline stopped him. Fear flashed in Raven's eyes, but it was quickly replaced by determination. After hesitating for a few seconds, he charged straight into the sandstorm. The wind howled past Caroline's ears. She quickly pulled a veil from her storage space and wrapped it around her face, then put one on Raven as well. She fitted their goggles too, but even then, the wind battered her body and made her feel miserable. Inside the storm, everything was blurred. Caroline shouted Nelson's name again and again, but only the wind answered her. The Zero System hadn't had time to organize itself. The abilities drawn at random today weren't great either. Caroline quickly deleted dozens of abilities. She frowned and refreshed twice more. Still, there was no sign of Crow's ability. Crow could predict the future. If there was ever a time to use it, this was it.But she didn't dare gamble her final chance. At least among the three abilities she had left, two were still fairly useful. After moving forward for a while, Caroline suddenly spotted someone lying on the ground. The person was wearing a standard army tank top and shorts. Blood pooled beneath him. She rushed over and lifted him up and froze. It was Haroldson. She checked his breathing. He was still alive, but barely. His body functions were extremely weak. Due to the blood loss, his temperature had dropped dangerously low. Caroline quickly used one of her healing abilities to stabilize him. When he didn't wake up, she took out some spring water from her storage space and gave him a small drink. About a minute later, Haroldson opened his eyes. The moment he saw Caroline, he grabbed her arm tightly. "Run," he said hoarsely. "Get out of here. Now."
