Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
Philip shot Francis a sharp glare. "Colonel Sutton, watch your words." Francis let out a cold laugh. His eyes were wet. "Today is Commander Ball's funeral. Are you all trying to stop him from being laid to rest? What's the point of arguing right now? I don't care how you folks fight up there. I'm giving Commander Ball a proper send-off." Philip gritted his teeth and said nothing more. He followed the line of soldiers carrying the casket. The moment Francis and his group left, eight military trucks pulled up in front of the apartment building. A squad of soldiers stepped out. They were all in uniform, all stone-faced. Leading them was the very man Philip claimed wouldn't make it here—Andrew. Andrew was in his early sixties, older but still sharp. His energy was strong, and he moved like a man who knew exactly what he wanted. He lifted his head to study the tall building, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. With a wave of his hand, Andrew led his team straight into the shelter. "First, take down that troublemaker Colonel Sutton. Then bring in Caroline and her crew upstairs. After that, pulling Hornvale under my control will be easy," he murmured. Inside the shelter, a few soldiers on duty spotted Andrew right away. They were quick and alert, stepping forward to ask why he was here. But before they even got close, the twin soldiers beside Andrew stepped ahead with cold, blank faces. No one knew what they did exactly. Within seconds, four or five soldiers were knocked flat on the ground as Andrew's group walked right past them. Andrew seemed to know everything that was happening in the shelter. He led his team straight to the 40th floor. On the way, several soldiers were knocked out cold. Inside the shelter, people were terrified. Everyone locked themselves in their rooms and didn't dare to come out. They could tell something was wrong inside the military. When Andrew reached the office, he flipped through the papers on the desk and began giving orders to his men. "First, knock out the soldiers Colonel Sutton left behind in the shelter and lock them up. We'll need them for the negotiation later. "Next, send a team to calm the people in the shelter. Tell them not to worry. We'll be taking over from now on, and we won't put them in danger. "Then, send two soldiers to watch the entrance. Wait for news from Philip. If his side succeeds, they should bring Francis up here right away. "And last ... " Andrew turned to the twin ability users who always followed him. "You two go to the 66th floor. Bring down the whole team. Especially Caroline and Nelson." Every soldier nodded. The twins headed straight for the elevator and went up to the 64th floor. At that moment, Caroline and her group were already gathered on the 65th floor. "So," Caroline asked, looking at the others, "where should we fight them? We're about to leave soon, and making a huge scene feels a little rude." They had received the warning. While Francis and the others carried the casket earlier, they sent someone ahead to tell Caroline that trouble was coming. Everyone gathered together, waiting to see exactly what kind of trouble it would be. "Why don't we head up to the roof?" Denton said. "We haven't packed anything yet. If we start fighting in here, something might break. I hid a bunch of my limited-edition action figures in my room." Before he finished, Tyler shot him a sharp look that shut him up instantly. Denton felt miserable. Tyler never cared about hobbies. Before the world fell apart, all he did was train, take missions, and eat spicy food. After the apocalypse, he'd became even more serious—everything had to be practical. But Denton was still an underage young man. He just wanted some fun in his life. "No," Caroline said. "Let Raven run to your room and hide your toys." She had already hung her purple storage pouch around Raven's neck. With Caroline backing him up, Denton straightened his spine. "Hehe, sure! After we move into the new place, just give them back to me." As he spoke, he sneakily gave Tyler a glance. To his shock, Tyler actually nodded. "Yeah. That's fine." Denton froze. Tyler actually agree for me to have some fun? The guy who had smacked me around for almost ten years is fine with him having toys? Then Denton caught the look Tyler gave Caroline. It screamed, "Whatever Caroline says, I'll follow." Denton's mind finally connected the dots. I have backup now. I'm getting a sister-in-law! Raven had barely left when Caroline heard somebody was trying to pick the lock on the 64th-floor door.
