Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 441 The Man Who Wouldn't Die

Caroline had just turned toward the door when she heard footsteps. Nelson walked in, looking wiped out and annoyed. But the moment he stepped inside, he froze. Right there on the floor, Shane was crouched down, happily eating a cupcake. Nelson's mood had already been terrible, and now it snapped like a dry twig. That was his favorite cupcake. And he could tell right away it came from Caroline. And in Nelson's mind, Shane didn't deserve normal cupcakes. Shane should only be eating those filled with chemicals. Not a real, fresh cupcake. Nelson was furious, and the consequences were disastrous. He also knew how scary Shane could be, so he walked in slowly. The others saw him return. Caroline wanted to ask about his trip, but Nelson raised a finger to his lips. Caroline followed his gaze. Nelson was staring at Shane, who was nibbling the cupcake like he was in heaven. She instantly understood; Nelson was planning to deal with him. She shut her mouth immediately. Nelson walked right up to Shane. His eyes were sharp, full of danger. His face looked calm, but his voice carried tight, held-back anger. "Is it good?" he asked. Shane didn't even look up. He only started eating faster, like he was scared someone would steal it. "So good. Way better than the ones you gave me," Shane answered honestly. Nelson nearly exploded at this. I'm going to lose it. I just want to strangle him now. What do I do with him?! But after spending so much time around Shane, Nelson knew his personality too well. So he leaned in and said, "Do you want cupcakes from me every day? Or do you want cupcakes like that once a year?" Shane had just finished the last bite. He froze when he heard the question. Then he finally turned his head and realized Nelson was the one talking to him. Shane's eyes lit up instantly. "You can give me cupcakes every day?"A rare smile spread across Nelson's usually expressionless face. A smile on someone who never wears an expression was actually kind of scary. Shane didn't notice. His whole face glowed with hope. "Nelson, I want to stay with you every day. I want cupcakes." "Alright. Be good and take your shot." Nelson's eyes were even brighter than Shane's. And just like that, Shane dropped to the floor with one needle. Before passing out, he even had a peaceful, satisfied smile on his face. Caroline was dumbfounded. So, Shane, is this easy to deal with? Then Nelson, still fuming about his stolen cupcake, let out a devilish glare. "He dared to eat my cupcake! I'm taking extra blood from him." After that, he dragged Shane away. Before leaving, Nelson said, "Caroline, I've figured out a few things about Shane. You all can come downstairs with me." Caroline nodded like a robot. "Okay." Denton stayed upstairs to watch the still-sleeping little ones. Caroline and Tyler headed down first. Downstairs, Shane was tied up again. This time, he was tied from head to toe like a full-body wrap. Nelson pointed at a machine and spoke seriously. "Shane is not normal. Not even close." Over the past few days, Nelson had tried many experiments on him. He tried to simulate different ways someone could die. But nothing worked on Shane. "No matter what I try—freezing, heat, acid, blades, even explosives—nothing can destroy his cells," Nelson said. "And poisons? They work for a moment, but his cells quickly create something that neutralizes them." He continued calmly, like he was giving a report. "I also tested some chemicals, viruses, and bacteria. At first they affect him, but soon his cells start producing antibodies. It seems that his cells have the ability to remember. The next time he faces danger, he develops a new ability to deal with it." Caroline and Tyler fell silent at the test results. They had just seen how dangerous Shane really was. That teleport move he used—he didn't have it in the last fight. And now it suddenly appeared. "This man is basically immortal," Nelson concluded. After some discussion, they made a plan. Nelson would inject Shane with a powerful poison. Then Tyler would drive him far away, as far as possible, so Shane wouldn't be able to find his way back. Even if he did, they would already be gone from this shelter by then. "When Raven and the others wake up, we'll leave," Caroline said. "Nathaniel's fine now, right?" "He's fine," Nelson answered. A cold, annoyed look flashed in his eyes. "But people around him keep panicking for no reason. It's like they don't trust my abilities at all." He sounded deeply offended that they doubted him.
