Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 422 The Move

When Caroline heard this gossip, her first thought was that this ability was not bad at all. After all, based on her experience from her previous life, once order stabilizes a bit, gold will become the global currency! By then, this person's ability would probably be highly sought after. After Caroline finished absorbing the energy from these mutated creatures and was about to bid farewell to Francis, he called out to her, "Caroline, our shelter will be relocating in a few days, while the temperature isn't too extreme yet. The government has set up a base, and if you want, we can build a house for you next to it! I'll request it from Commander Ball. He'll definitely approve it!" Francis smiled brightly, full of anticipation. Caroline's answer inevitably disappointed him. "Sorry, Colonel Sutton, we've already roughly chosen our residence after leaving the shelter. Once we're settled, we'll give you the address. We can still keep in touch afterward." Francis just sighed but quickly regained his energy. "Alright! Even if we won't be neighbors anymore, we'll meet again someday!" "Yes, see you then." Francis then went on to explain the government's plans for this new base. At Building B, he had also learned some information about upcoming natural disasters. Though not as detailed as what Caroline had extracted from Crow, he still understood the general procedures. Francis told Caroline that they were planning to leave Building A as well. The main reason was that after the great heat, earthquakes would follow. Living in high-rise buildings during such disasters wasn't ideal. Although Crow said it would take a few months before the earthquakes occurred, the government still felt the current shelter was not safe enough and wanted Francis's team to evacuate early. "We'll probably meet up with other shelters and establish our own base. The exact location hasn't been finalized, but when I called Commander Ball yesterday, he said preparations were already underway." Caroline had also heard about the base from Haroldson. Once she realized it would involve merging with other shelters, she figured Francis would be busy as ever.More people meant more complications. After saying goodbye to Francis, Caroline decided it was time to discuss the move with Tyler and the others. If they could deal with that organization tonight, she could head to the selected location that very night and deploy the mobile base. By tomorrow or the day after, everyone could leave the current shelter. Of course, before that, she needed to distribute the spring water so everyone could experience the "rejuvenating" effect. Two days had passed since William and his group had arrived. According to them, the plague would spread fast enough to bring down the entire shelter in about two days. They were waiting for this moment to absorb everything into the spatial ability user's body before returning to report. So, tonight's operation was indeed a good opportunity. With that in mind, Caroline headed up to the sixty-fifth floor to check if Nelson was awake. She knocked on his door for a while, but no one answered. Pushing it open, she found Nelson was not in the room. Caroline raised an eyebrow. Is he already doing experiments so early? Sure enough, in the lab, she found Nelson bent over his work. Nearby, there was a small piece of cake. Caroline had given him a whole cake before, letting him help himself if he wanted. Caroline did not disturb him as she entered; his gaze remained fixed on the various bottles and jars, and he kept taking notes with his pen. "Nelson," Caroline called out. Unexpectedly, Nelson turned his head, startling Caroline—those dark circles were intense! Turns out, Nelson had started researching the spring water yesterday. He had fiddled with it nearly all night without much success. Only close to dawn—just minutes before Caroline returned—did he finally go to bed.By this morning, before seven, he was up again, starting experiments. Caroline shared some additional information: the spring water in the space had blue star-like specks, but once taken out, it appeared like ordinary water. She also noted that combining acid rain with the spring water seemed to double the effect of triggering animal abilities. She explained the mutations of Raven and Jet. Nelson began pacing the lab repeatedly, occasionally running a hand over his head—a trademark gesture these past few days since losing his hair.
