Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
"I'll dissect you before you die. I'll make you watch as I cut open your stomach and take out your liver and stomach," Nelson said coldly. But William was waiting for Nelson to lose his temper. As Nelson moved closer, William snatched the scalpel from Nelson's pocket. Earlier, Nelson had stayed calm and kept his distance, making sure William couldn't reach the scalpel. But now, Nelson was out of control, and William finally had his chance! What happened next was William knocking Nelson out from behind, stealing his research, and trying to escape ... until he ran into Caroline. After hearing everything that happened, Caroline walked over to where William was being tied up, and tapped his face. "Our Nelson will take good care of you later." Then, Caroline killed the other two people, leaving only William for Nelson to experiment on and take revenge. An hour later, Nelson had finally extracted the plague antibodies and turned them into a serum. Exhausted, he handed Caroline vial after vial of the finished antidote. "Here. The rest are still being produced ... " Before he could finish, his head tilted to the side—he'd fallen asleep standing up. Tyler quickly caught the vials that nearly slipped from Nelson's hand. Nelson just stood there, head leaning on Caroline's shoulder, deep in sleep. Caroline could even hear his steady breathing. "Take him upstairs to rest. I'll head down to the shelter." Caroline spoke softly to Tyler, careful not to wake Nelson. Tyler nodded, picked Nelson up, and carried him upstairs. Deep down, Caroline felt a little guilty. Ever since bringing Nelson here, they'd relied on him to solve one crisis after another. This skinny young man saved them twice, all by himself! "We need to help Nelson recover. He's lost too much blood lately. And he's kind of a kid at heart. I wonder if he likes sweets ... "So when Nelson woke up, he just rolled over in bed and saw a small gift box beside his bed! Inside was a whole slice of cake. Nelson, who felt deeply but rarely showed it, widened his eyes—he had a sweet tooth! But since the apocalypse, he hadn't eaten a cake. He took a big bite and closed his eyes happily. "It must be from Caroline!" Nelson mumbled as he took another bite. "Hehe. This place is great. Caroline is great." If Caroline saw him like this, she would definitely think he was a dummy. In reality, it was Nelson who was great! If Caroline counted the years from her previous life too, she was definitely older than Nelson. So it felt natural to think of him as a younger brother in her heart. Caroline took the vials down to the shelter. Just like that, the crisis was over. Francis grabbed Caroline's hand, eyes shining with emotion. Caroline smiled and told him, "Colonel Sutton, we're going to move out in a few days." They'd thought it through carefully before deciding to leave. First, the deep freeze was over, and staying up high would soon be a disadvantage. With temperatures rising this fast, the great heat was just days away. Caroline planned to start looking today for a suitable spot to set up their mobile base. Second, that naked man with god-like powers had his eye on her. His invisibility made their current place unsafe. She'd already talked it over with Denton and Tyler—neither objected. She'd also asked Nelson. He didn't care where they lived. Francis froze for a second, then squeezed her hand harder. "Caroline, they say a good neighbor is better than a distant relative. After all this time as neighbors, I really see you as family! I ... really don't want you to go."He sighed. He really meant it. But he also knew nothing lasts forever. Caroline had her own principles and boundaries, but she'd still helped the army a lot. She called it "equal exchange" and "transactions," but just dealing with those mutant steelworm and the plague had put the army deeply in her debt. "Don't worry. Tell us where you're headed and we'll send any mutant corpses there. The machines and factory goods we promised you will be delivered, too. And the rest ... depending on how our country and the army develop, I'll make sure to share any good resources with you when we can. Let's stay in touch!"
