Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 409 Still Can't Relax Yet

After Francis finished talking, he gave Caroline a salute. He stood tall, looking unusually serious, like he had just made a promise. During the time Caroline stayed in Building A, she helped the army a lot. Neither he nor Nathaniel was the type to forget a kindness. In a way, counting that time with the teenage rat king, Caroline's group basically saved the whole shelter three times. They even helped the shelter find mutant cockroaches as food. If Caroline and her team weren't here, Francis really didn't know what the shelter would look like now. He genuinely respected and appreciated Caroline and her team. Caroline nodded slightly at Francis and smiled. She felt that since her rebirth, she'd mostly acted out of self-interest. Most of the time she stepped in, it was because she lived here, or had other motives. Unexpectedly, in other people's eyes, it looked like she was doing good deeds. Still, she didn't feel the need to correct this lovely misunderstanding. Maybe, on some level, even after living through ten years of apocalypse in her previous life, she still held a little kindness for this world deep down. But she still reminded herself in her heart—even if she was strong now, and she had friends like Tyler, Denton, and Nelson, even if she had future support from the officials and from Francis, and she had cute companions like Raven, Jet, and Goldy, and cheat-like advantages like her storage space and the Zero System—she still couldn't let her guard down. The apocalypse wasn't over. With so many secret abilities and supplies, she'd always be a target. "By the way, before you leave, let me know! I'll gather all the young men in the shelter and line them up," Francis suddenly added. Caroline asked instinctively, "Hm? What for?" "To let you copy their abilities!" Francis raised his eyebrow and burst out laughing. Caroline was stunned for a second before she got it. Seeing his expression, she understood—Francis had planned this from the start! He'd given those orders to his soldiers on purpose! "Francis, do you want me to hit you?" Caroline raised her hand and smacked his arm. Francis just laughed even louder.... After saying goodbye to Francis, Caroline headed back to rest. When she reached the 66th floor, she saw Tyler waiting at her door. He had a large dog on each side and was holding a pet toy, teasing them both. Jet and Silver were chirping away in the corner of the hallway, deep in some lively conversation. Caroline raised an eyebrow. Looks like Jet might win over his crush? The moment she thought it, Silver seemed to get angry. She flew up, pecked Jet on the head, and flew off. Guess it'll take a bit longer. Silver isn't that easy to woo. When Tyler saw Caroline, he tossed the big pet ball. Snow and Raven immediately raced after it, racing to see who'd grab it first. "How's the situation down there?" Tyler asked. Caroline filled him in, then told him she'd go choose the new place later that night. Tyler nodded and said he needed to go out too. According to Crow, one of his teammates was supposed to arrive in Hornvale soon, and he wanted to check the area in case they showed up. He also came to tell Caroline he was heading out. After all, things were intense lately, and that naked man was still out there somewhere. But both of them wanted to go out anyway, because that naked psycho was badly injured, so he probably wouldn't come back to cause trouble so soon. When Tyler heard Caroline talk about finding a new place to live, his human GPS mode turned on immediately. He suggested a few places he thought were good. Caroline noted them down to check out later. "If you're going out, you should take Denton with you." Caroline knew Tyler was worried that the psycho might target her, but she still had plenty of ways to protect herself, so she suggested that Denton stay behind and guard the place. Just then, Snow and Raven ran over, each biting one side of the toy ball. The ball was already punctured and flat, like a flat tortilla. But neither of them let go, they kept pulling and fighting over it as they ran. When they got close, Caroline took the flat ball from them. Both of their eyes instantly focused on her hand. Caroline threw it hard. The flat ball flew off again, and the two ran after it again.
