Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 385 The Missing Colors

Mixed in with his predictions were plenty of guesses. When Caroline heard Crow's theory, she couldn't tell if he was too clever for his own good or just plain arrogant. She didn't bother arguing. Instead, she put on a convincing touch of fear at just the right moment. Right now, Crow hadn't even considered the possibility that she was also a reborn survivor—and she intended to keep it that way. She hadn't revealed even the slightest hint, not to Tyler or anyone else. To be fair, his assumptions weren't unreasonable. Caroline had no idea that Crow, though completely unable to move, was utterly shocked. He couldn't move a muscle, but his mind was fully awake. He couldn't control his body or his mouth but he could listen to his own voice spilling out every truth she asked for. He could even hear himself making those awful quacking noises. The only thing he could still move were his eyes. He could see Caroline standing nearby, watching him. Sometimes she looked intrigued, sometimes deep in thought, and sometimes she was just straight-up laughing at him. Rage boiled in his chest. He was even starting to feel a real killing intent toward Caroline and Tyler. He was sure Caroline had provoked him first. He had never taken Caroline seriously, always thinking he was sparing her some dignity. He never expected her to humiliate him like this. Then Caroline spoke again, her tone calm but firm. She kept questioning him. "So, Crow, be honest. Do you want to kill me right now?" A chill ran down his spine. He rolled his eyes toward her—literally the only thing he could move—and saw her smiling faintly at him. And his mouth, completely out of his control, started spilling the truth. When he finished, cold sweat broke out across his body. He could almost feel death creeping closer. For the first time since his rebirth, regret hit him hard. He realized how arrogant he had been—acting untouchable, treating everyone like pawns. He thought bitterly that his second chance at life had been wasted. He'd been too flashy, too loud, and never respected anyone. He knew Tyler was strong, but all he'd done was avoid direct conflict with him. Once, they'd even met to talk. They agreed to leave each other alone, and Crow had offered Tyler two valuable predictions—one about the end of the deep freeze and another about the coming great heat. Back then, Tyler had agreed to let go of the grudges between their two groups, which was why things had been peaceful for a while. All this while, Crow truly believed he hadn't done anything to provoke Tyler or Caroline. All he wanted was Nelson! Even his guesses about Caroline were logical—or so he thought. So why had these two stormed in, trapping him with something so ridiculous? Caroline showed no reaction at all to his answers—not even a flicker of emotion. She had already figured out everything she needed to know. Then she asked softly, "Crow, tell me everything you know about the apocalypse." And just like that, he began talking non-stop, revealing every secret he knew. He even shared how the Obsidian Fang ended in his previous life. Most of it was nothing new to Caroline. She'd lived ten long years through the apocalypse in the previous life, while Crow hadn't made it past three. He talked about choosing Building B as his base, about knowing that Tyler, Francis, and Denton would all become powerful ability users, and about other events from his past. But one detail caught Caroline's attention. In the previous timeline, Obsidian Fang had taken in a very unusual ability user. This person wasn't from Hornvale. He had come from far away. His eyes were mismatched—one a glowing orange, the other a deep green. And he was the only person Crow had ever seen with two different abilities. Both of them were incredibly powerful. When Caroline heard "orange" and "green," she drew in a sharp breath. According to her storage space system, those were exactly the two colors she was missing. "Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet." The seven colors of a rainbow. The two she lacked were orange and green. "He said he came from the far west," Crow quacked on. "He crossed deserts and rivers to get here. What made him stand out was how strange he was—he mumbled to himself all the time and barely spoke to anyone. But because his powers were so strong, we took him in, gave him supplies, and sent him on missions. Quack, quack, quack."
