Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse
Caroline didn't hesitate. She pulled out a pistol from her storage space and fired several shots straight at the door lock. But the door was tough—really tough. The bullets barely scratched it. Without missing a beat, she and Tyler both pulled out grenades. If one grenade didn't work, they'd throw two. If two weren't enough, they'd use three. If the door wouldn't open, they'd just blow through the wall. One way or another, they were getting in. All the guards on this floor were already down, so no one came to stop them immediately. But the ones below had heard the commotion and were already rushing upstairs. There wasn't much time left for Caroline and Tyler. Caroline and Tyler didn't care that they were about to be found. After all, Crow started the trouble. He made the first move, so he should be ready to get hit back. His antics were never serious enough to make Caroline and Tyler rush in and kill Crow, but dancing on their boundaries over and over had grown tiresome. This time, since they had come, even if they were spotted, they would make Crow understand how serious they were. They pulled the pins, tossed the grenades, and quickly ducked back a few feets. With a deafening blast, the wall next to Crow's room blew open—but the door still stood solid. Clearly, it was top-grade material. The only thing Crow hadn't done was reinforce the wall along with the door. Standing on the other side of the smoking hole was Crow himself, wearing a bathrobe with messy hair and dust all over his head. He looked nothing like his usual calm, calculating self—barefoot, covered in debris, and clearly rattled. He was shaking with rage. Holding a silver pistol in each hand, he aimed them straight at Caroline and Tyler. "Don't move. These bullets can wipe out your powers for good." Crow, leader of the Obsidian Fang, didn't get where he was by being soft. His aim was deadly. Too bad for him—guns couldn't beat magic.Caroline smirked and pulled 50 fishing nets from her storage space, tossing them right at him. They say no matter how sharp your blade, you can't fight a kitchen knife. And no matter how perfect his aim, once caught in a net, he was finished. Sure enough, Crow got tangled up in the nets and crashed straight to the floor. Both guns went off as he fell. Bang! Bang! Too bad—he missed completely. Caroline watched as one of the ability users who had just charged in got hit by both stray bullets. The poor man fell flat, no one sure if he was dead or alive. Caroline winced inwardly. She wasn't sure if Crow's warning about his bullets draining powers was true, but if it was, that guy was in for a world of pain even if he survived. Before more guards could rush up, she and Tyler slipped through the blasted hole and into Crow's room. Crow was still tangled tight, struggling to get up. Caroline's nets were premium quality, with lead weights around the edges. One wasn't heavy—but 50 of them together nearly crushed him. Still, he refused to collapse completely. He sat there stiffly, glaring, but he couldn't stand. He tried raising his guns a few times, but the weights were too much. Finally, he threw the pistols aside, glaring coldly at the two intruders. Caroline walked closer, smiling faintly. "Hey, Crow. Long time no see." Crow gritted his teeth, glaring at Caroline and Tyler. "What do you want?" By now, more guards and ability users had arrived, but none dared to approach. Caroline and Tyler were already standing right beside him. Caroline pulled the nets back and helped Crow to his feet.Tyler had one arm back to normal, but the other remained a long steel blade. He held it under Crow's chin. Crow forced himself to stay calm and said to the guards, "All of you, get out. I need to have a word with these two." A few guards cursed under their breath, but they still backed away.
