Upgradable Space: Reborn to Survive the Apocalypse

Chapter 382 Breaking In

"Who's there? Show yourself!" The man shouted. His voice trembled slightly, revealing the fear beneath his tone. Caroline quickly pulled up her ability system, checking what three random powers she had for the day. And lucky her—one of them was exactly what she needed. Special Ability: Mirage Illusion. Note: The way Caroline got this power is something she'd rather not remember. Still, it's pretty useful, so she's not complaining. Uses left: 5. Ignoring the system's usual sass, Caroline whispered softly, "Mirage Illusion." Then she stepped out from behind the furniture. The man who had been nervously searching the room froze the moment he saw her. He stared at Caroline like she was the most precious thing in the world. "Lily! Lily, you're alive? I missed you so much! "You—you want a hug and a kiss? Sure, I'm coming!" The man suddenly rushed toward her, tears running down his cheeks, his expression pure joy. You could tell he really missed this "Lily" he was seeing. He charged straight at Caroline, arms wide open, lips puckered, eyes half-closed, wearing a blissful, dreamy look as he lunged toward her face—clearly mistaking her for Lily from his memories. Caroline braced herself, ready to jab him with her stun baton the second he got close. But Tyler moved even faster. He lunged forward and struck the man on the back of the head. The man dropped instantly, completely knocked out—Tyler had clearly hit hard. Tyler didn't say a word, but the look on his face said everything. He was disgusted by the man's behavior. Caroline exhaled in relief. Who would've thought a power that showed people happy illusions could actually be this dangerous? The ability she'd used was one she had copied earlier that day from a rookie soldier messing around. It let people see the happiest memories in their minds. And apparently, for this janitor-looking guy, his happiest memory was kissing Lily. Caroline and Tyler didn't waste time. They dragged the man into a corner, tied his hands and feet, and taped his mouth shut. They didn't bother worrying about him—he hadn't even realized who they were. Caroline and Tyler listened carefully at the door. Once they confirmed no one was outside, they slipped out quietly. They didn't know that the man they'd knocked out was now smiling in his dreams, finally kissing his beloved Lily. Security on this floor was tight, guards patrolling in every direction. Caroline and Tyler weaved through the shadows, eventually slipping into the room across from Crow's. Inside, a dozen guards lay unconscious—taken down by the two of them moments earlier. But none of them had the key to Crow's room. Crow always locked himself in and carried the key whenever he went out. No one entered without his permission. Well, except for one person he trusted completely—but that person wasn't here. Caroline pulled a small key from her storage space and waved it at Tyler. "Need a door open? Follow me." A master key from her space—nothing it couldn't unlock. They moved quickly down the hall toward Crow's door. But to their surprise, while the key worked on the first door, there was another one inside—and this one was far more advanced, protected by password, fingerprint, and retina scan. Caroline sighed. "Should've brought Nelson." There was no way she could crack that. Inside, Crow had already sensed them. "Who's out there?" His deep voice rang out, strong and sharp. Caroline and Tyler exchanged a quick look, instantly reading each other's thoughts—no point hiding now. Time to act.Tyler's arms morphed into sharp steel blades, and he slashed at the door with everything he had. His blades were fast and powerful, leaving deep gashes across the metal—but the door still didn't break.
