Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 671 Only You

The night outside was pitch black. Ashley sat on the bed alone, her figure struggling against the quiet, swallowed in a kind of solitude no words could describe. After trying again and again with no result, tears finally streamed down her face in quiet despair. She started pounding her legs with her fists, furious at them for failing her. Arthur was startled and immediately pushed open the door. “Ashley!” Startled by his sudden voice, Ashley froze. She quickly wiped at her tears with trembling hands and forced a weak smile. “Arthur.” Seeing her red, swollen eyes and that forced, fragile smile, Arthur felt like someone had reached inside and wrung his heart. The pain was almost unbearable. He rushed forward and wrapped her tightly in his arms. “Ashley, please don’t do this. Don’t be like this.” Ashley’s body stiffened. But the next second, she broke down and sobbed uncontrollably. “Wuuuu... wuuuuu...” With her face buried in Arthur’s chest, the tears came in great, heaving waves. Arthur held her tightly. His chest ached. In that moment, he didn’t know how to comfort her. All he wished was that he could have taken the injury for her instead. Ashley cried for a long time. All the sorrow she had suppressed during the day came crashing out. She choked out through her tears, “Arthur… my legs don’t work anymore. I’m not good enough for you anymore.” Arthur’s body froze. He gently released her and looked her in the eyes. His expression grew serious. “Ashley, I told you—no matter what happens, I’ll love you the same. How could you think something like that?” As he spoke, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a ring he had long prepared. It was a deep, brilliant red—an exceptionally rare gem, set in a design Arthur had personally created and commissioned. Holding the ring, Arthur got on one knee. He looked up at Ashley, his expression filled with sincerity and purpose. “Ashley, I’ve been preparing this ring for two years. Will you marry me?” Ashley stared at him, at the ring, and at Arthur on one knee. Tears welled up again. She turned her face away. “Arthur, if you’re only proposing because you feel guilty that I took a bullet for you…” Before she could finish, Arthur cut her off, firm and resolute. “Ashley!” His voice was sharp and tinged with anger. “How can you say that?!” “It’s been two years. After all this time, you still don’t understand how I feel? No matter what changes, you are the only woman I will ever call my wife. That will never change!” Ashley’s tears flowed even faster. She tried to put on a cold face, tried to say something to turn him down, but her voice caught in her throat. In the end, she could only whisper, “Arthur, you deserve someone better.” At that, Arthur truly got angry. He stared at her, serious and unshakable. “I don’t want to hear you say that ever again.” Seeing her shoulders tremble, Arthur’s heart softened. His tone eased. “Ashley, to me, you’ll always be the best. No one in this world could ever replace you.” His voice, calm and resolute, shattered the wall Ashley had just started to build. Arthur—he was the future heir of Heaven’s Cult. With a status that high, how could he possibly marry a woman who couldn’t walk? But now what? Arthur was like a stubborn bull—no one could talk him out of anything once his mind was made up. Ashley couldn’t stop the flood of tears from falling again.Arthur gently picked up the exquisite ring and carefully slid it onto her ring finger. It was a perfect fit—he had crafted it to match her hand exactly. Then he pulled her into his arms again, gently but firmly. His voice trembled with emotion. “Ashley… I fought like hell to bring you back. Please… don’t make me lose you again.” His words struck something deep inside her. Ashley looked at Arthur, stunned. Right now, he was like a boy, resting his head on her shoulder, quietly begging her not to leave him. Somewhere along the way, Arthur had come to love her just as deeply as she loved him. And suddenly, all of Ashley’s doubts melted away. Yes. After everything they’d been through, they were finally finding a little peace. She still hadn’t fulfilled her promise to give him a son and a daughter. The shadows in her eyes slowly faded. She raised her arms and hugged him, her gaze falling on the beautiful ring on her finger. It really was stunning. She could see how much thought and care he had poured into making it. And in Arthur’s arms, the gloom in her heart completely vanished.
