Stronger Every Time I Die
Tammy hesitated. The chairman had been in a terrible mood lately. If this boy was just here to make trouble, she’d be the one getting yelled at—or even fired. But looking at him, he didn’t seem like he was joking. Just as she was caught in indecision, Cindy barked, “Don’t you dare! If you want to get yourself fired, don’t drag me down with you!” Tammy flinched. She wasn’t particularly happy with this job, but the company’s benefits were decent. If she lost it, where would she find another position so easily? Seeing Tammy freeze, Arthur grew impatient. He couldn’t waste time standing around. He turned to ask, “Is Mr. Young in the building right now?” Tammy hesitated for a moment, then nodded. “He is.” That was all Arthur needed to hear. Without another word, he took a step forward, intending to walk straight in. Cindy immediately blocked his path, her face full of exaggerated horror. “What do you think you’re doing?!” Then, as if she had uncovered some earth-shattering conspiracy, she gasped dramatically. “I knew it! You’re here to steal from us! Now you’re even trying to break in!” Arthur rolled his eyes. He pulled out his phone, unlocking it as he spoke. “Since you insist on making false accusations against me, I’ll just call the cops and let them deal with this.” “Call the cops? You think that scares me?” Cindy scoffed, not believing him at all. Arthur ignored her and dialed 911. Cindy panicked when she saw him actually calling the police. She snatched his phone and scolded, “You little brat, why are you so dramatic? You think the police have time to deal with your nonsense?” “This isn’t some minor issue. You’re trying to ruin the future leaders of this country! The police exist to protect the people, and you’re out here making false accusations against me. I have every right to call the cops! And you took my phone—that’s theft! No, actually, that’s robbery! Now I definitely have to call the police!” Arthur marched toward the landline at the front desk, ready to dial again. Cindy panicked. Where did this lunatic come from? She quickly threw his phone back at him. “Fine, fine, take it back!” Arthur caught it easily. Then, as if remembering something, Cindy smirked and crossed her arms. “You’re really something, kid. You accuse me of theft, you claim I’m slandering you—where’s your proof?” She turned her gaze toward Tammy. “Did you see me take anything from him?” Her eyes carried an unmistakable threat. Tammy opened her mouth, ready to protest, but before she could speak, a round-bellied man in his forties walked over. “Cindy, what’s going on here?” The moment Cindy saw him, her entire demeanor changed. She instantly dropped her aggressive stance and put on a pitiful, delicate expression. “Mr. Zion, you have to help me! Someone’s bullying me!” Her voice was so saccharine that Arthur nearly gagged. Mr. Zion instantly looked displeased. His expression darkened as he asked, “Who? Cindy, who dares to bully you?” Then he spotted Arthur standing nearby, and his scowl deepened. “Tammy!” Tammy flinched instinctively. It was clear she was terrified of him. “Mr. Zion.” “What kind of receptionist are you? Letting just anyone waltz in here? Do you think this is some kind of amusement park?” he barked. Arthur frowned. “I’m here to acquire your company. Please bring Mr. Young out to speak with me.” The time he had saved with the taxi driver was now being wasted here. He checked his watch, growing more anxious. He wasn’t sure if the other potential buyer had already contacted Mr. Young. But he had come through the main entrance and hadn’t seen anyone else arrive. That meant they hadn’t gotten here yet. Mr. Zion stared at Arthur like he had just heard the most ridiculous thing in the world. Then, he burst into exaggerated laughter. “What the hell did you just say?!”Arthur’s patience was running thin. He repeated, “I need to speak with your CEO, Mr. Young.” His words were immediately met with loud laughter. Mr. Zion looked him up and down and sneered. “Kid, you’re still wet behind the ears, and you think you can buy out a company? What is this, recess? That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard all day!” “Exactly!” Cindy added, still giggling. “And he even called himself the future leader of this country! Please—he’s more like a parasite!” Tammy nervously tugged at Arthur’s sleeve again and whispered, “Buddy, you should go. These people aren’t easy to deal with.” Her small movement didn’t go unnoticed by Mr. Zion. His expression turned cold as he barked, “Leave? Not so fast!”
