Stronger Every Time I Die

Chapter 627 : Shadows at the Gate

“Wait, Wind, aren’t you twenty-something already? How did you even get in?” Wind, despite his slightly baby-faced features, was already twenty-six. By normal standards, a senior in college would be around twenty-two. Even with some variation, that was still quite a gap. Though Wind still had a bit of baby fat on his cheeks, his expression was habitually cold—just like Falls. He didn’t react much to Arthur’s laughter. “I had someone create a second ID for me. Changed the age to twenty-two. Right on time for senior year.” Arthur let out a dry chuckle. “Alright.” Money, power, and influence—those could make anything happen. Given the reach of Heaven’s Cult, it really wasn’t all that surprising. After all, the entire group had just passed through customs with legitimate credentials, even though some of them weren’t even from Lioran. Wind’s composed, mature aura didn’t quite match his face. The contrast actually made him look like an honest, easy-to-bully guy. Arthur shook his head and let it go. It had been over two months since he’d left. Governance University was already close to winter break. As they stood there, taking in the familiar scenery, both Arthur and Ashley felt a surge of emotion. So much had happened in those short months. Arthur had gone from a regular student to someone directly tied to the once-unreachable Heaven’s Cult—Benjamin’s grandson, no less. He wasn’t just any member; he was the heir. That title alone held global weight. Even world leaders would have to give Arthur three parts respect if they met him now. The leap was staggering.Even after a month, it still didn’t feel real. It was the end of the school day. As they reached the front gate of Governance University, the place felt strangely unfamiliar after so much time away. Lively students poured out of classrooms, rushing toward the gate as the bell rang. The weekend was just ahead. Many students who lived nearby had already packed up, ready to go home. It had been a while since they’d seen Taylor or Mr. Hugo. Arthur couldn’t help but wonder how they were doing. And Hudson—those students who had been living off need-based assistance—surely by now, they could eat well and focus on their studies. As the two of them stepped through the school gate, they ran right into Taylor. But he didn’t look like the same bright, cheerful boy they remembered. He looked tired—hollow, even. His head was down, books clutched in his arms, walking slowly toward the exit. Just as he stepped outside, several figures suddenly jumped out, blocking his path. Taylor flinched, his whole body jolting instinctively. He lifted his head—and the fear in his eyes was unmistakable. Arthur’s heart clenched at the sight. Taylor had always been the sunshine in the room. How could he be looking at someone like that now? What had he been through these past two months? Arthur instinctively stepped forward, but Ashley reached out to stop him. “Arthur, wait. Let’s see what they’re up to first.” Arthur nodded, pushing down the urge to charge in. He had returned to settle scores—and it seemed like fate was handing him a perfect opportunity. The one blocking Taylor’s path was none other than Finley, with Zac right behind him. They were flanked by Henry and a bunch of other goons. Now their hair was dyed in every color imaginable, sleeves rolled up to reveal tattoos. They looked like full-on street thugs. There wasn’t a trace of the clean, youthful image they once had at Governance University. Sure enough, Finley stepped up and sneered at Taylor. “Where you off to, Taylor?” Taylor instinctively stepped back. He looked ready to run—but Henry and his crew had already flanked around and cut off the escape. “Trying to run? Not so fast.” Finley had long since dropped the polite persona he used to wear. Now, he and Henry were cut from the same cloth—pure punks. And Zac? He stood silently behind Finley, glaring at Taylor with open hatred in his eyes. A few students nearby had stopped to watch. Some looked like they wanted to help, but they held back—Henry’s crew had bats, sticks, even knives in their hands. No one dared step forward. Finley was openly bullying a fellow student right at Governance University’s front gate. Arthur could hardly believe what he was seeing. Was Governance University really turning a blind eye to this? What on earth had happened in the last two months? Taylor’s voice trembled as he faced the group. “What… what do you want?”
